As a tenor who also sings Tamino, it is nice to know that even a rendition as great as this one receives shy applause from the audience... Tamino is such an ungrateful role! RIP Gösta, you rock!
In my opinion they didn't know what hit them after Windbergh was done, which explains the tentative applause. He took their breath away with this rendition.
Is that because the audience individuals are not usually into spiritual development themselves and can't appreciate it? So very much so in Sweden, where Papageno seems to be relatable to more people, sadly
A great Mozartian performance, IMHO. Balances vocal beauty, lyricism, and elegance -- resulting in an expressive, yet prudent rendition of a done-to-death aria.
Truly disgusting staging! But what a voice! What a vocal control, yet expressiveness! Gösta Windbergh certainly was Mozartian par excellence, singing with rare sensitivity music that requires that above all. Thanks for posting. Much appreciated.
Well...to be a superstar not always leads to high quality... and not being one do not leads to poor quality. The Mozart roles (and others) of this man where just great... rich and secure voice. Great!!
Why gone too soon?
Fantastic tenor he was!

I was in the auditorium when he started In fernem land in his badingsuit i always call it so. So wonderful. Effortless. He died. And thats it.

One of the best interpretations of this aria!

gosta is great!! he has a breath control.unfortunately he died young at 59 years.Strong Lyrical Voice. He reminds me of Gedda.
Oh my goodness.. his voice is absoluely beautiful!
Гениально!❤️
A hugely underated Tenor RIP 🙏
Una delizia. Nessuna forzatura, splendido legato, finalmente un Mozart virile e dolce nello stesso tempo. BRAVISSIMO !!
OMG look how low his Adam's apple goes, yet the sound is so pure. A Master.
Himmlisch!
pure Mozart tenor! Such a beautiful clean timbre, youthful, artistic, masterful,
Fantastic!!!!😊👍👍👍
According to the archives of the opera house, this is from the 1978/79 season in Geneva - a couple years before he left Stockholm for Zurich.

Prodigieux! Comme toujours d'ailleurs, avec cet artiste d'exception.

CELESTIAL !!!!!!!!!!!!
2002-1942= 59. I wish he had lived a 1000 years, but his case was not of a tragic death at 36, Wunderlich's was.
Why did he die so young?
Edda Moser. :D
