- Edit.... Pleeeaassee, excuse the smacking. I didn't realize how horrid it was until i listened to the video. Im thinking about taking it down and reposting. Chile, i might not eat online again 😒😒.
Hey ya'll!!!! Hope you enjoyed your holiday weekend. If you worked, did you get paid holiday pay. I worked, and yes, I collected my coins like they were infinity stones. I decided to make this video after speaking to a co-worker. I've always wondered this question. Leave your opinions down below.

I’m a Medical Assistant.. but I went to school for FREE and it took me 5 months! But if I had to pay for it, definitely go for LPN ! In a doctor’s office, a MA and LPN does the EXACT same thing.. nothing different.. but the pay.. I previously worked in Human Resources and I wanted a career change.. but I still wanted to work in an office setting.. our state received a Government grant for Medical Assisting.. best decision I ever made! I work from home now doing (medical) phone triage using my Medical Assistant certification.. and no I don’t like wearing scrubs.. lol.. I work in my pajamas 😁👍🏾
Thank you for viewing. That's my main point. You are somewhat limited with a degree in medical assistant, and around here, the courses be 7 months to a year. Might as well enter a PN program that takes 1 year. I know pay isn't everything, but having multiple options of employment with an LPN license is worth it. This is just advice I would give someone if they were struggling with the decision.
@@astoldbymuriel103 oh I forgot to mention, I’m actually working from home doing Triage with my Medical Assistant certification
Hi Nurse Muriel,
Here in Ga they call us CMA’s working in AL and I make $20 an hour. It’s not a lot but it’s enough for me. I love your content. ❤❤ Have a wonderful and peaceful day. ❤❤
Oh ok. $20 not bad at all. How long did you go to school to become a CMA? If I was in your ear I still would have been pushing you to do the LPN. I ain't mad at $20 though
Hi Muriel 🩷🩷 I hope you are well. Honestly, just in my head afraid I’m not smart enough. 🩷🩷
Hi Nurse Muriel! Im a huge fan of your channel, and you’ve inspired me to pursue my LVN! Im 21, and have always wanted to be a nurse. Long story short, after applying for 2 years for RN (both ADN and BSN) programs, I realized maybe that wasn’t the step for me to take at this moment. In pursuit of my nursing degree, I became a CNA at 19, and an MA at 20. I’ve been a working MA for approx. 6 months now, and I’d say it’s worth it if you want a fast entry into healthcare. I regret not trying for my LVN earlier, but im glad I did become an MA since the education behind it (medications, medication administration, ekg’s, phlebotomy, injections) can be used in LVN/RN school.
Im in California, and as a CNA I started off at $20 in skilled nursing, and the LVN’s there made $30+ (from what I heard). As a new MA, I am making $29. I will say, the only time you’ll probably make okay money as an MA is in a hospital clinic (at least in California!!!!!!!). MA’s that work for private clinics here typically make $21-25. LVN’s working at my hospital start off anywhere from $35-40.
The only reason I became an MA was because I was tired of the SNF life 😅 and wanted something much more calm (MA’s mainly only work in outpatient clinics). My program was an accelerated 4 month program with an additional 1 month 160hr externship. If I could go back in time, I definitely would have rather became an LVN out of high school, but I’m glad that I have the education and experience that I have now. Also, a big downside for me being an MA is the lack of flexibility. As an MA, you’re pretty much bound to working AM shifts, typically 7-3:30/8-4:30/9-5:30. I miss the flexibility of being a CNA and having the option of AM/PM/NOC.
Hope this helps! You inspire me so much!
Aww thank you so much. I always wondered who in their 20's was listening to me ramble 😂. Thank you for tuning. California is always the exception to the rule with their pay. $29 for MA is awesome. Yeah definitely use it as a stepping stone. Just know with your LVN you won't be bound to LTC. I linked a video showing just some of the places LVN's can work.
I say the same thing, if you have time and can afford to go for your LPN. I think it’s one of the best things I could have done for myself. The pay and flexibility is crazy! Also it’s so many jobs that will help you pay for school.
I’m in Virginia and I see a lot of places are starting to have pay increases. These facilities trying to keep staff.
Yes. They mad they had to increase pay BUT agency was costing way more. Even the state gave a 15% raise to nurses bc paying agency was killing them.
❤️
@@astoldbymuriel103 15% increase is good!! I wish my job would do that
I'm watching this video like damn she can multi-task... driving down the highway, filming a TH-cam video, and eating a fruit cup at the same time. 😆😭❤️
Girl my daughter saw this video and was on my ssa. She said the same thing you said.

I'm an Lpn that just started working as a dialysis nurse. I would probably prefer to do Pct in a dialysis clinic, rather than do the medical assistant program. The pay is probably similar and they don't need schooling ( on the job training)
Oh wow a dialysis nurse. I contemplated becoming a dialysis nurse but the getting up 3am was a No for me. So can medical assistant can't work as a CNA? Because the CNAs making more than medical assistants in my area
@@astoldbymuriel103 My state ( New York) requires classes and a test in order for a cna to get certified.
No way would I recommend anyone going to medical assistant school. More options and more money as an LVN.
Will always push for LPN
Medical Assistants are mainly in doctor offices. Med Techs are at Assisted Living and LTC facilities and they can’t give narcs, injections, and can’t do G-tube / trach patients.
Ok so I was on the right track. Because I never saw a medical assistant in the nursing home so I had to do that disclaimer
Medical assistants are in hospital too.
I’m in GA. I went to a technical college to become a Medical Assistant back in 2009..I passed my boards but couldn’t land a job because the doctor offices were looking for someone with at least 6 months experience, so I just went back to get my LPN.
The pre-reqs for MA and LPN were the same, I only needed to take a Diet and Nutrition class. So my LPN program was only 1 year.
When I chose to go to school for MA, it was because I honestly never thought about working in the medical field, I just wanted to learn a new trade. I didn’t research anything about nursing. Looking back, I definitely would’ve went for my LPN from start since the length of school for both were the same with the same pre-reqs, and LPNs make twice the money.
Thank you for this info. I try to stop people from going for the medical assistant degree. It's not worth it in my opinion. Then to finish and if you find a job they want to pay you $15-$18/hr. You can go work to Starbucks for that and no student loan debt. He'll my daughter about to go work for Volvo for $21/hr and she has a GED.
I’ve been an LPN in Alabama for about 6 months now. I am PRN in long term care and the most they will pay me is $22 an hour. Maybe I should try to negotiate more…?
Move to SC because wth $22 😳😳😳. The CNA's making that here
Pay in GA and AL suck!
@@kimi_8325 GA too? Dang. What LPNs making down there?
Wow it's amazing what the pay difference is depending on where you live
@@bubblesboss4937 yes because I didn't know GA pay suck. I guess I'm glad I'm in SC
This video was definitely helpful. I was stuck between medical assistant and lpn and this was helpful in my decision.
So glad it was helpful. Best of Luck in Nirsing school
Lpns can work in doctors offices also and medical assistants can work in outpatient settings in hospitals. Just heard you live in Sc me too. What school did you attend?
Hi, and thank you for viewing. I attended Technical College of the Lowcountry from my LPN, Midlands Tech, for my RN and Claflin University for my BSN
I also made a video listing some of the places LPNs can work
@@astoldbymuriel103 I'm Familiar with midlands tech, they now have a strict academic policy for Healthcare studies.
Definitely different roles Medical Assistant can not pass medicine
Chileeee 🤣🤣. I was so confused and out here making videos.
My main thing was the 💰 🤑.
@@astoldbymuriel103 😆
@@astoldbymuriel103 lol
Medical Assistant do more clinical roles as Medtech role more towards passing the Meds
Oh OK. Yeah I was getting myself confused. Halfway through I thought about it and had to do a disclaimer 🤣
