I have great memories from this song. It felt not only like Eudocias theme, but also my own characters. Perhaps it was both, and instead it portrayed their similarities and connection. I played as a pagan, a man of a dying faith that struggled to addapt to the cities and the growth of The Church. Things were lonely and strange for him because of that. He arrived at the Peninsula and got quite attached to the people there. His work made him feel like he made a difference in their lives. So, he made sure to experience their culture, hear their worries and speak to their leaders. He held that place in his very soul by the end. And then, there was Eudocia. That woman was one of the most memorable parts of his journey. He would visit her often, just because he saw himself in her. They were both magicians, sure, but also very isolated people, who didnt have anyone to reach out to. My character understood her, and maybe, she understood him too. Because of that, she was the last person he visited before he left. In the end, the decision of the merchants that hired him was not to invest in the peninsula. To abandon those communities and let them rot. My character couldnt do anything about it. It didnt matter he was the one to travel through that place; he had lived the peninsula, been shapen by the ones he met and risked his life for them. Yet it wasnt his decision. He was left only with a purse of gold and the memories of the people he failed. Both felt like a mockery. My character continued to work for the rest of his life, never having gotten retired as he wished. The only people he had come to understand and love had been abandoned, and he saw his faith and culture slowly fade away. In the end, all that remained was this song; a symbol of that tranquil hopelessness he and Eudocia felt. His last days were simple, banal even, but would always hold that hint of melancoly till the end. He should have known he was no hero, but he really wished he could have been one just this once. The one time there was a glint of hope and love in the world, where he felt seen, and where he could see others... that moment faded. That place faded, like the memory of his very existance soon would In the end, this was his song. One of sadness, of isolation and of abandonment. But it does have a glint of beauty to it, doesnt it? Maybe because despite it all, he managed to do some good for those people, even if briefly. My character may have died along with his faith, but he lived a life of honesty and compassion. There was grace in his defeat, and I think that is what this song tells me. That no matter how cold this world feels sometimes, there can always be love and kindness out there, even if it is futile in the end. It had been worth it to live through all that, that old pagan must have though.
Your perception and thoughtfulness towards the characters in the game and especially your own character gives me hope that this game had a great impact and will not be forgotten. Thank you for sharing your story.
Eudocia is my favorite character in the game and I love how this track represents her loniless and sadness so well, while also making it more comfortable and upbeat at 04:30 because she is such a good friend after warming up to you
As I was placing those rods for her all over the peninsula, I was wondering if that was the right thing to do. It was unclear to me what motivated her, she was not particularly nice, and yet here I was vouching for her towards people who had proven their values to me - mostly for financial reasons. At the end of the game, I was still not sure of her intentions, but I definitely appreciated her more as a person. She seemed like a decent (though slightly lost) individual after all, and I was a bit heart-broken to **SPOIL** found out that she was an addict, and that I was enabling her to an extent. With hindsight, the music tells a lot about the character, without making it obvious. Cool track and great game.
One of my favourite video game themes its so beautiful in my opinion. The simplicity of notes and how its trying to encroach a sort of sadness and loneliness on you. Seeing as Eudocia only likes to see you in the evening. I always imagine evening sky clouds passing and a beautiful cream coloured setting.
