IU's first movie was supposed to be "Dream" but because of covid, the film got delayed. In the meantime, Japanese film director Hirokazu Kore-eda watched her drama "My Mister" and was so taken by her acting that he got her for his film "Broker," where she starred with Song Kang-Ho, who eventually won Best Actor in Cannes for the film, Gang Dong-won, Bae Doona and Lee Joo-young. IU was first runner-up for Best Actress at Cannes too. So Broker instead became her first film and it got invited to Cannes for competition. So proud of her.
Hotel del Luna is the first k-drama I ever saw and introduced me to IU - for which I’m forever grateful. Her best drama (and best I’ve seen…after seeing a lot of series), is My Mister. That show, and I would say the movie Broker, are both pretty much perfect.
IU is my ult bias pretty much because of her (perceived) personality. Her music, and voice, have grown on me, but had to grow on me (lyrics helped, too, again, reflecting that personality). And yes, we are lucky to share this time on this world with her, and with the internet being what it is!
FYI, Song Kang Ho and Kang Dong Won both are absolute stars in s.korea acting industry. Kang Dong Won are women heartrob, loved by generations of female in s.korea. Song Kang Ho and Kang Dong Won sooo rarely appear in TV or anything, so them with iu in one screen is almost miracle 😂 And Lee Joo Young is like queen of indie movie scene. In conclusion : (yes this is ofc for promo,BUT) this palette is actually very precious
Oh man, seeing this episode again reminded me of when they were all at Cannes in 2022 promoting this film, and while IU and Lee Joo-young were having a conversation on the red carpet, a French beauty influencer named Maria Travel walked past them and shoved IU pretty hard out of her way and didn't look back or apologise because she didn't know who she was and just assumed she was some random Asian woman. IU, being the class act that she is, just laughed it off and continued on with her day, but the video went viral and IU's fans blasted the influencer. She ended up making an apology on her Instagram story the next day saying it was an accident and that she "didn't even realize" she had done it, but when you watch the video, there's nothing accidental about it and it's pretty obvious she only apologised because she got called out. On a more positive note, 'Broker' got a 12 minute standing ovation at Cannes!
I recommend you watch some clips of IU in Cannes, because she was ADORABLE! (Not that she isn't always, but in Cannes she surpassed herself 😅❤️) And I can't wait for you to meet "actress IU" 😍
Doona Bae and Song Kang-ho had originally costarred in the famous monster movie 'The Host' eighteen years ago (worth checking out). Bae first worked with Broker's Japanese director Hirokazu Kore-eda `15 years ago on the film 'Air Doll.' Broker is a dark (but sentimental) tale of a prostitute who tries to sell her baby on the black market.
Doona Bae is an incredible actress. I'd especially recommend Sympathy For Mr Vengeance; Air Doll and A Girl At My Door, as those three will give you a real sampling of her range.
If you haven’t seen Hyori Homestay, the first season includes IU - and it is an opportunity to see her true personality… I won’t spoil for you, but will just say that you will love her even more.
