In this video I show you how to install a factory tow hitch on your 2017-2020 Acura MDX. Installation Instructions: acura.bernardi... Music Credit: See You On The Other Side by The 126ers
Did needed extra help since I did not raise the vehicle. Also 2019 instructions says removing the bumper. It is not necessary to remove the hitch cover.
@@stuffyoucando2 But I am considering installing the wire harness later to use with a larger cargo box with lights. Please post a video update if you install one!
Thanks! The AWD with the OEM trans cooler is rated for 5000lbs, and I believe front wheel drive is rated for 3500lbs. As for tongue weight, I think that’s around 350lbs, but I do not have a manual handy to double check that.
Did you remove the right grill block? In the instructions link its mentioned that its important to remove the right grille block for increased cooling capacity while towing.
I installed the hitch BEFORE I installed the hitch cover. Now I cant get the two bolts to hold the cover ad they sit behind the hitch. Any suggestions? Was gonna just zip tie them. I also suggest cleaning the threads, only one bolt wouldn't go in easy, I cleaned it out a bit but it still took a lot for it to go in.
Definitely clean the threads as I recommend in the video. As far as your installation, your best bet is unfortunately going to be to drop the hitch back out and do everything in order shown in the video.
What is the actual year of your MDX? Acura changed the install instructions for 2019 and 2020. It now says that you have to remove the bumper cover to remove the trim piece and install the new one. Not sure why this is.
Mine is a 2017, and I’m not aware of any bumper differences that require removal of the bumper for 2019 and 2020. I found the instructions you are referring to and they do now show removing it, but then the rest of the procedure to install the new lower cover appears to be the same. In my opinion, they may have revised the procedure to make the installation more user friendly or less damage prone, I’m not sure, but as far as I know the hardware is all the same.
Thanks for the video. I just purchased the hitch and plan to install myself. Did you have help or did you manage on your Owen? Also, do you recommend WD40 to clean out any corrosion from inside the frame threads?
Cleaning m14 1.5mm thread tap is necessary. Recommended installing harness as it is very easy.

Very straight forward to install. The video was helpful in giving me the confidence to tackle this. Saved myself a few bills. Thanks.
Glad it helped, thanks for watching!
Dude, this was just in time for our camping this weekend! I'm picking up the hitch tomorrow morning for the install. Thanks for posting! Thumbs up!
Nice, well I hope the video helps with the install. Are you also doing wiring or just the hitch?
@@stuffyoucando2 Just the hitch for now. I'm only using it for a cargo basket.

@@pboon2285 will do.
Thanks for the video man , I got to get one of those for my mdx
Great video, direct and to the point. What is the tongue weight capacity and the maximum towing capacity?

No because this video is for installing only the hitch, not the entire towing package. If it was, I would’ve also installed wiring.
@@stuffyoucando2 Do you know if I have to remove the grill block if I tow less than 3500 lbs?
Wen your order the kit

Removing bumper cover is not necessary. I used 2018 instructions on my 2019 mdx

I did it myself but an extra set of hands would be helpful. I don’t think WD-40 will really clean out threads as it’s more difficult f a lubricant.
Definitely chase the threads with an M14x1.5 tap as suggested, it will make your life easier (for those who are still planning to do the job)
What is the part number for the new bumper garnish, or does it come included with the trailer hitch?
It comes with the kit, kit part number is 08L92-TZ5-2A0
did you install the wiring harness?
I haven’t really had a need for it so I have not yet done it.
Thanks for sharing! do you need ramps to lift the car?
I did not raise the car.
