I never got to see Ron perform live.....came close......but alas ...no..though i was fortunate to meet the great man...twice......in 2007 and 2010.......The Rose and Thistle......in 2007.....he signed a photo on a mag cover..'thanks to John...RH.'......ONE OF THE BEST EVER SINGER SONGWRITERS......still missed......i keep thinking that i'm the only Ron Hynes fan from England......where i still live........surely not!
This song is too lovely. It is the first time I have heard it. Such Beautiful words. When he said "this crew just got ten days Christmas leave" I thought of all the camp workers out in Alberta. I have been there, working in camps far from home over Christmas. Lots of people have to be away from home working at Christmas for one reason or another. Police, Soldiers, nurses, etc etc. My heart goes out to them listening to this song. I like this man's version better than the Ennis Sisters which a friend just tagged me on FB to listen to. Lovely.
This is a Ron Hynes original, and this is him singing it. He was actually asked by the Ennis Sisters Dad to write a version that would suit them. He’s a genius.
