I watched the original video and always say “feet on the floor please” to my toddler instead of “dont stand on the chair, youll fall” i try to remember to apply it to other situations too. 👍🏻
Giving a directive in the form of a question is one I hear so often. The result is that teacher/para pro/adult often then reacts with frustration etc. when students do not comply with the implied directive. However, the children who are not complying are not ignoring the implied directive but are acting on the question they heard. "It's time for circle, who wants to come to the circle?" The message being received by a child is "I only have to stop drawing and go to circle time if I want to". They make the choice and then are told off for making the wrong choice. This situation can be very confusing for children.
I am a first time PreK 3 teacher as well as young childhood nanny and this video helped me learn some simple yet effective tips on how to re-navigate student behavior. It saves not only me heartache and stress but also the student. This was so helpful and timeless! Thank you ☺️
You're a lifesaver!😅 Thank you so much for keeping this content up. I'm teaching my first preschool class tomorrow and stumbling on your page has given me an extra boost of confidence and I'm forever grateful🙌🏾🤗💯
i'm 15 and doing a part time traineeship at my local daycare (haven't gotten any training/experience) meaning i was super daunted, but your videos are lifesaving! childcare is my dream and your tips make going into my daycare a lot less stressful and way more fun :) love from australia
Amelia, thank you for your comment! I'm glad you found the videos helpful. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you ever have any questions or looking for suggestions. Good Luck on your childcare journey!
Love your channel! I have learned to focus on positive like saying"thank you for walking " instead of"don't run". Tone of voice and cadence also matter very much.Thank you .
I'm guilty of #4 sometimes at clean up time 😬 Glad I watched this. What do you do when a child doesn't want to clean up and even says "no I don't want to, or wait just one more minute" or just totally ignores you and keeps playing?
Hi Cindy, I also watched that original video years ago when you first posted it. Especially rule #1 has stuck with me all that time. And now I have a 2 year old son and still try to use that rule every time. Thank you very much for these very useful tips!
Hi Cindy, I am a preschool teacher ages 3-4. I have a question, how do you feel about teachers using manners when talking to children? Let's say for example, giving a direction. On one hand i feel it is important for us as teachers to model good manners when communicating but on the other hand you want to keep your directions simple. I'm in a bit of a funk right now as it's that time of the year when the kids start to get antsy before summer and i love all of the great tips on you channel! ❤ ~Mary~
Mary, I think it is important to teach (and model) manners just like any other skill. I encourage children to use their manners with adults and other children. A simple "Please" and "thank you" goes a long way :).
Love it . Thanks! I would add some teachers change their voice as a child’s one when talking to students. Also use very simple and limited words in order for children to understand( talking about English as a second language). I never limit my students to be exposed to rich natural language environment. Thanks Again for your awesome videos and tips. I would like to see some online tips and resources. Thanks Cindy
Alexander Gao I have been doing some virtual teaching and although it is not my forte, I have learned a few tricks that I could share. Thanks for the suggestion.
Hi, I love your video, it is so interesting) I worked in russian kindergarten, and I would like to compare Russian and USA way of teaching. What books do you recommend me about USA teaching way? Thanks 👍
Again, sorry for the delayed response. I would offer choices and be very direct. Here's a video that describes those strategies in more detail: th-cam.com/video/EkZDHNQqCdE/w-d-xo.html

You are amazing!!! Thank you very much for all your tips. Do you have an online training program? 🙂
I currently do not have an online training program, but the idea has been one I have tossed around.
It's was informative but will be more satisfied if you also give examples for the solution
You’re amazing
Thank you so much!❤️
Kindly post new videos on morning warm up sessions
I model correct behavior first, incorrect next, and finish with correct. But it’s ineffective if they don’t understand WHY which is good Vs bad

I don't know if I have an actual book but I describe my teaching style as developmental with positive practices. Thanks for your comment !
Missing your videos!!!!!
If you ask everyone to join for an activity and a child says, no. And sits in the spot they’re in without moving, what should I do?
Again, sorry for the delayed response. I would offer choices and be very direct. Here's a video that describes those strategies in more detail: th-cam.com/video/EkZDHNQqCdE/w-d-xo.html
