Valley observes urs of Hazrat Abu Bakr
SRINAGAR: The annual urs of Hazrat Abu Bakr As-Siddique, companion of Prophet Muhammad, was observed with religious fervour, with devotees thronging the Hazratbal shrine throughout the day.

The annual urs of Hazrat Abu Bakr As-Siddique, companion of Prophet Muhammad, was observed with religious fervour, with devotees thronging the Hazratbal shrine throughout the day.
While religious functions to commemorate the urs were held at several shrines across the Kashmir valley, the main function was held at the Hazratbal shrine on the banks of the Dal Lake.
Maximum rush of devotees was witnessed during the Friday prayers.
Emotional scenes, with people praying with raised arms and tears in their eyes, were witnessed as the holy relic was displayed to the devotees at the Hazratbal shrine.
During the pre-Friday prayer sermon, light was thrown on the life of Hazrat Abu Bakr and the teachings of Prophet Muhammad.
The government, meanwhile, had made adequate arrangements for the devotees at the shrine.
Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, had yesterday chaired a meeting in which officials from the Srinagar Municipal Corporation, PDD, PHE, JK Muslim Wakaf Board, J&K State Road Transport Corporation, Fire and Emergency Services and Traffic Department were present.
