So I definitely liked this book, for sure. I have read quite a bit of Kristin Hannah's books too and my biggest issue with the book was that I have definitely read better writing from her. I think the epilogue was the only place where I felt like it was in line with the most polished writing I've seen from her. There were a LOT of repeated phrases and words that naturally stand out. I tend to find that very distracting. It was also incredibly depressing but I don't think it was overdone or in a bad way more like I kind of wish I had been emotionally prepared for just how depressing of a story it was going to be. Aside from the writing that just didn't seem up to par with some of her best works, it really was a great book, though! I loved the messages and themes that all wrapped up at the end. Masterfully done. And, as usual, I learned SO much that I am very glad to now know :)
As a Texan I had heard of the Dustbowl but didn’t realize how utterly devastating it was. I’m only halfway through but I adore this book!ready for the inevitable tears later lol
When a books makes you have such a strong emotional response to it, that is how you know it is a good book. It is always fun to meet a fellow Swiftie :)
I read this one with my book club and really liked it and felt close to the characters. I have to admit it was a bit too much of a downer , like the author was trying to come up with every sad event and put in one book.
I liked what you had to say, but bear in mind that Canadians were also deeply affected by the Great Depression and the ‘dirty thirties’ as it was known.
Can't wait to read this one, love Kristin Hannah. Yes for a vedeo on your top five.
I hope you enjoy it :)
Am I the only one curious about what happened to Rafe? I kinda want to know what he went through and what made him never come home
I agree!
Would love for you to do a Kristine Hannah books tier ranking video!!!
Great idea!!

I agree! Although I really enjoyed the book, it was so stressful!

I agree. I feel like a lot of American history overshadows what happened in Canada during this time.
