Thursday July 11 will mark one year since Bosnian Serb forces overran the U-N protected area of Srebrenica in Bosnia.
Thousands of Muslims went missing and their relatives fear they were killed in mass executions carried out by the conquering Bosnian Serb Army.
This month, the International War Crimes Tribunal is exhuming graves around the area to try and find out exactly what happened.
APTV looks at a city, once largely populated by Muslims, which is now a Serb stronghold - a classic case of ethnic cleansing.
One year on and Srebrenica, like most of Bosnia, still bears the scars of conflict.
This sleepy mountain market town in the foothills of eastern Bosnia was predominantly Muslim before the war broke out in 1992.
It was soon surrounded by the Bosnian Serbs under General Ratko Mladic and for the next three years townsfolk endured the dual hardships of starvation and Serb bombardment.
It became one of the U-N's 'safe areas' and the enclave was flooded with Muslim refugees seeking protection.
But on July the 11th 1995 Mladic himself was there to oversee the capture of the city.
The carnage was everywhere and those Muslims who weren't killed fled.
These days, Srebrenica is a classic case of ethnic cleansing.
The only reminder of the town's Muslim past is this pile of rubble which used to be the mosque in the main square.
Serb refugees from Sarajevo and other parts of Bosnia have taken over many of the empty homes left by the fleeing Muslims.
Locals estimate that more than half the town's present population, around 11-thousand, have come here since the I-FOR arrived.
They have a very different view of the fall of Srebrenica - the town is now preparing for the first anniversary of "Liberation Day".
    SOUNDBITE: (Serbo-Croat)
In the next couple of days we're celebrating the entrance of the Serb Army and the Serb people into the town of Srebrenica. This is a very important day. When we got here it was very difficult. Everything was destroyed and we had to disinfect because of the disease.
SUPER CAPTION: Dane Katanic, Srebrenica Municipality President
Work has started on repairing the local Orthodox church - the most potent of symbols for the Bosnian Serbs.
Alexander Radanovic is typical of many of the new residents of Srebrenica.
He is a refugee from Sarajevo where he used to work as an engineer.
    His hatred is also typical.
    SOUNDBITE: (Serbo-Croat)
Q: Can you live with Muslims?
A: Never. It has been proved that we cannot live together. Definitely.
SUPER CAPTION: Alexander Radanovic, Srebrenica Resident
Some of the families who escaped from Srebrenica fled to villages like this in Krivoglavci, near Vogosca.
One year on they are making a new life for themselves in homes once owned by Serbs.
Jacub Jukic mourns not only his lost friends but a lost city which no longer bears any resemblance to the Srebrenica he knew and loved.
    SOUNDBITE: (Serbo-Croat)
At the end there was between 42 and 45 thousand of us in Srebrenica, Srebrenica was full. You couldn't see an empty street in Srebrenica and now it's empty.
SUPER CAPTION: Jacub Jukic, Former Srebrenica resident
Jacub Jukic was one of the lucky ones who got out alive.
When the Bosnian Serbs captured the city, many Muslims went straight to the U-N base at Potocari, a few kilometres from Srebrenica.
But they were no safer there.
Women and children were separated from the men by Bosnian Serb soldiers who said they would all be taken to refugee camps.
Thousands of the men were never seen again - most of them are feared dead, shot by the Bosnian Serbs in mass executions.

Srebrenica used to be a Croat Roman Catholic town until the Ottoman Turkish invasion after the centuries of Ottoman Turkish rule it turned muslim over time.
After the genocide of the muslims in 1995 its now a Serbian Orthodox town.

@Bs Ds If you bothered to check what I said online then you will find its 100% true. Srebrenica was a Roman Catholic town before the Ottomans Turks invaded.
There were local Croats and also Saxon miners living there.

English author Noel Malcolm in his book about Bosnia admits that Srebrenica was a Roman Catholic town before the Ottoman Turks invaded.
Although he emphasises the role of the imported Saxon miners in Srebrenica and sort of ignores the Croats who were the only local Roman Catholics in the area.
