    The key thing for feeling well in a different country is not to look for the differences with your home country, mainly things that are worse than at home, but searching for the things you like in your new home. I lived in five countries during the past 30 years and realized this during a weekend trip from Turku to Oulu back in 1991. I had passengers from US, Canada, Serbia and Turkey on board and as I was driving I was kind of silent and listening. I realized that they all were complaining about Finland and the Finns for hours. From that moment I decided to do it differently and came to love Finland despite the obvious differences.

      This is so true and I agree 100%! Every country and land has its positive and negatives. I also choose to see the positives and even the sometimes seemingly negative things..well...doesn't really matter ;)

    First of all: thanks for your great video.
    And regarding "the active germans" there is a saying: two germans are a couple, three germans are a club (Verein) - even if you need 7 members to establish a club officially.
    In no other country there are so many clubs (580.000): for shooting, dancing, bowling, singing and of course football and other sports.

    I loved to hear about the organic and vegan scene in Germany! How would you say that compares to Finland? I'm interested to moving to either.

    • @KiaHazel
      @KiaHazel  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Uuuh! Good idea for a video ;) Will have to compare them. Havnt been to Finland in a while so I would need to visit again to make a good comparison ;) But I think for vegans both are AMAZING! :)

      That's so good to hear!! The Finnish bread looks so unique but was wondering if it was vegan. There's that sweet bread with potato in the middle thats in the shape of a disc that I wanted to try haha. I can't wait to visit Finland eventually. :)

    German language was most popular foreign language in Finland before 1950's when English started to become more popular.

      I recently read that in the census of 1982 in the USA, 29% of the population said that their family heritage was German. This was, surprisingly, more than the 25 percent who claimed to be of English heritage.

    I love your video, so many young people make TH-cam, so many of those who have come to Germany, and talk positively about Germany, I like that, a grateful and happy heart is healthy, not only for the person but also for them listen to it is very good. This video is the first TH-cam person who came to Germany from Finland, I know Finland is in the north, you don't hear much about the country.
    You look pretty and very young, 16 years old?
    How long have you been in Germany?
    How are you with German? I've been to Germany twice, yes that's right Germany is beautiful, Germany is the country of my ancestors, I love Germany. Greetings from Canada originally from Paraguay.

    Nordic countries and Germany aren't that different from each others. I also like in Germans that they are aware of ecological issues and are largely pacifists. I love old buildings and unfortunately modern building is more utillity than artistic. Central Europe definately has more old era feeling than Finland does: we only had so few people centuries ago in Finland. Finns also consider honesty as the highest virtue. You say something, you mean it and you keep the word. There is not much social pressure in Finland what you should wear or how to behave, things are casual. Our fashion interest people HATE Finns being so casual. Like, wind breakers is said to be the Finnish national dress. The gypsies say in Sweden they choose not to use the traditional outfits because the pressure of the society, while in Finland they don't feel it. When Finnish and Swedish corporations merged a few decades back, it was an issue how different the atmosphere in palavers were: the Swedes did not like to come strong with their opinions, but tend to compromise: if there were differences of opinions, the Swedes rather "discussed it in corridors" than became difficult people in meetings. Also, foreigners often say Finns look moody and grim, they don't smile. The Swedish Finns are considered more happy and jovial people than Finns, and I'm thinking that has to be with the Scandinavian "let's all be friends" mentality while Finnish mentality is rather "take me as I am or let me be." I think my German friends are nicer and more people pleasing than I am. They may be closer to Scandinavians than Finns in friendliness factor, that's my opinion. (Finland is not Scandinavian, Finland is Nordic).

    Ich liebe dein Video, so viele junge Leute machen TH-cam, so viele von denen die nach Deutschland gekommen sind, und reden positive über Deutschland, das gefällt mir, ein dankbares und fröhliches Herz ist gesund, nicht nur für die Person sondern auch für denen es anhören ist es sehr gut. Diesen Video ist der erste TH-cam eine Person was von Finland nach Deutschland gekommen ist, ich weiß Finland ist im Norden, man hört nicht viel von dem Land.
    Dir sieht es hübsch und sehr jung, 16 Jahren?
    Wie lange bist schon in Deutschland?
    Wie geht's mit Deutsch? ich bin in Deutschland zweimal gewesen, ja das stimmt Deutschland ist wunderschön, Deutschland ist das Land meine Vorfahren, ich liebe Deutschland. Grüße aus Kanada ursprünglich von Paraguay.

    • @KiaHazel
      @KiaHazel  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Mimoza! :) There are definitely places in Germany that are very affordable to live in (just avoid the bigger cities, especially Munich ;) ). Nuremberg I found really affordable if you want to live in a city. I am no expert as I don't have Children but I would definitely say Germany is a great country for raising kids with great schools, safe environment, there is more than enough culture and things to see wherever it is you decide to live. For me finding a job wasn't difficult. German skills definitely help, but if you have work experience and love to work (Germans work crazy hard) then with patience and perseverance you should be fine ;) I hope that helps

    Ahh, you explained a lot in this video about Germans. We are of the mindset that they are kind of distant, cold, etc. Like, not warm or affectionate? I don't think that is the right word. But here we also do not know much about Germany; if you ask people about them, the first thing they mention is WWII, Nazi's and concentration camps. :-\ But, we also have the Holocaust Museum here in town. Do you think in other parts of EU they have managed to shake that stigma off?

    • @AP-RSI
      @AP-RSI 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      "...he first thing they mention is WWII, Nazi's and concentration camps." Sadly, this is always the first what people from other countries think about us germans. But... I'm not young, but I was born way after WWII and the germans today are not Nazis (only some less groups who are braindead... ;-) ).

    • @MsJudiXO
      @MsJudiXO 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      asrsi I know it's terrible! And it's not like the US doesn't have an awful history too. I think the difference is here the tell people to "get over it" about Slavery, when in Germany they have tried hard to make up for the past. I have a few German friends and they are so nice!

    • @KiaHazel
      @KiaHazel  7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I have to be very honest...as I was studying history, more specifically WW2 and the Holocaust...I thought about Hitler everytime I heard someone even speaking German. But I was young then and hadn't met germans really..as I started to meet more and more Germans I realised how crazy I was. I think most people in Europe don't really think about that anymore when they think about Germany. And honestly germans are such lovely people. A bit reserved but like I said: honest and real ;)

    • @hoobymarburg167
      @hoobymarburg167 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      No, Ms Judi XO!!!
      That negative Stigma is a useful tool, which is used again and again to take even the german youth into "Sippenhaft" and to battle german arrogance.

    Are you Finland's Swedish, Kia?

    • @KiaHazel
      @KiaHazel  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I am "officially" yes...because we moved around a lot as when were kids, my dad decided to speak english to us instead of swedish so I never really learn swedish...:)

    • @Aurinkohirvi
      @Aurinkohirvi 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Can you even BE (Chandler Bing emphasis) a Finland's Swedish, if you didn't speak Swedish in home? It's a culture thing and if you don't practise the culture.... Or maybe it's just not the language? You Finland's Swedish ate? Dressed? Walked? Partied? Were positive? Your dad spoke English in Finland? Yeah we Finns suck in Swedish... I guess that would make more sense than speak Swedish in Kuopio or Tampere.

    • @KiaHazel
      @KiaHazel  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You know..I don't know...but my dads side of my family did ingrain the thought into me that I am Finnish-Swedish..but I mean who cares. I am me :D

    • @Aurinkohirvi
      @Aurinkohirvi 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, sure, but it influences us who we are in which culture we grow up and live in. And why am I telling you this, you are the one making videos of different cultures! I don't remember any more what point in your video was it that made me ask it, but something did.
      Different parts of Finland are different. My German friend told me how different parts of Germany culture is quite different. Being a Finland's Swedish could add another layer, even if it isn't a thick one.
      You know how they have these stereotypes of Finns living in different provinces? Well, I have this opinion that GOOD stereotypes are helpful. That's why we have them. But they are still just educated guesses.
