The Perfect Cooker That Replaces Your Smoker, Grill & Pizza Oven! | LSG El Patron

- El Patron from lonestargrillz.com is by far the most versatile grill I have ever seen! Based on direct-heat "hotbox" style BBQs, this cooker grills over direct heat with an adjustable charcoal/wood grate, smokes using indirect heat, accepts a rotisserie, and can BBQ with direct heat. There are two options for your wood or charcoal. The adjustable grate, or firebrick, at the bottom of this cooker. If all this wasn't enough, LSG incorporated a pizza oven! This does everything! Swiss Army Knife of Grills!

Here is my intro video on the El Patron: th-cam.com/video/mEIChWm1skw/w-d-xo.html. Nothing but information on the pit and its features.
Happy Father's Day all of you dads out there!
What an amazing cooker. I think you are right. I think it replace everything on my patio. Wow. LSG really knows their stuff.
LSG wow, that cooker is impressive. They make quality grills/smokers
Cant wait to watch. Ordered mine beginning of March and got build notice a couple weeks ago. Been searching TH-cam for El Patron videos weekly and so happy to see a video from you!
I'm looking forward to doing some cooks. I'll be doing a couple reverse-seared ribeyes tonight for dinner. First cooking video will be a low and slow cook though.
I've seen this in action on a few of Chris's videos. Very impressive pit to say the least! Good job on explaining all the details Greg!
I have it it's been pretty good. Fire management is the only learning curve.. I guess that's the fun part dialing it all in.
Sup Greg, the thought and engineering that this took is amazing! Happy father's day, tyvm tc
THNX for another GR8 review Greg!!! LSG's are a fabulous set up! If I ever get another cooker, they'll get a VERY serious look into! Cheers! ~ Chris
Got mine back in April and I just love it.
You're a mind reader I was just searching for reviews on this over the weekend thanks!
Greg, that new cooker looks amazing! I can't wait to see some cooks on it.
Thanks Greg - Great intro to a great machine - Cheers!
WOW! lone star has made the perfect cooker!
Hey Greg! Big fan of what you do! You’re my go to for burgers and bbq! Thanks for all the work you’ve put in to give us quality information and damn good looking food! Have a good one sir!
I appreciate that! Thanks for taking the time to stop by!
Heck yeah Greg.. Ive seen that cooker in action and ive got to agree with everything you've said. It can do it all... Nice job buddy. Lone Star does it again. IMHO!
Cheers, Brother-Tommy!
Lone Star is just the best! Great review Greg. I really like the adjustable door opening. Cheers Bud!👍
Looking forward to breaking this thing in. Thanks, Rob!
What an awesome beast!
Most interesting cooker,im looking forward to seeing it in action...Thanks for the preview.
Thank you, Michael!
Wow, knew it existed but u knocked it out of the park with this video- one of your best!!!
Thank you for checking it out!
I’d love to own that thing, but my Weber 26” does the job for 1/4th the price
That thing is awesome!
I love this cooker
Now that's a father's day gift to remember, nice review Greg
Thank you, Lance! Cheers, brother!
I have an El Patron and a 36” LSG pellet grill on order. Thanks for the awesome video, Greg!!!
I'm really excited about this thing. You made a good decision!
What a great grill and I'm looking forward to the videos of you grilling on it 👍👍👍
Thank you! I'm looking forward to cooking on this thing. I'll be dropping a couple cowboy cut ribeyes this evening for Father's Day dinner.
Wow ... great tip, thanks! ❤😃🤩
Love Star , can't wait to see it in action . That might be my next investment !!!!
Money well spent!
Awesome cooker Greg! LSG are incredible USA built grills, hands down! Happy Father’s Day! Cheers!
Cheers, Jay! Yeah, amazing company!
Smart move dropping this video on Father's Day. This cooker looks amazing! My Kamado might find itself replaced soon!
Timing was perfect. I try to drop my videos on Sundays and this just happened to arrive a few days before shooting. Take care!
Jack of all trades is a master of none. It's a universal rule of design: compared to a design that does a single thing and does it well, a multifunctional system must have design compromises to achieve acceptable results for all requirements. Example: It's hard to beat a Weber kettle for grilling and smoking, and it's so simple!
That’s true but some folks don’t need to be the best. They want to experiment with various cooking styles and don’t have the money or the space to buy a smoker, grill, pizza oven, etc. I wouldn’t buy this thing but I can see why some folks would.
I have an uni pizza oven, and have used it many times, and what I've learned is that it performs terribly compared to a large brick oven. But your average home oven can make a pretty good pizza but it's MUCH more practical. A Weber kettle grill is $90. I'm not sure what you mean about "some people don't have the money". This El Patron is $2,000. So you can buy a grill, smoker, and a pizza oven for less than this thing!
@@Gruuvin1 ok. Whatever.
@@1nteract1ve right?!
I'm not buying one either! LoL!
Pretty Nice!
I've been considering one if these. Been using my lone star santa maria for a year now and love it
This thing is amazing. It literally does everything I need to do while cooking on my patio.
Bucket list!
Looking forward to seeing it in action!
Me too!
You’re the best!
Appreciate your stopping by!
Happy Fathers Day. Great video for a great product.
Thank you, Paul!
Whoa! Impressive mass in that cooker!
It's a beast!
Kinda like the chud box! I love this design
I’m excited to see some cooks on this.
I have a BGE but like you said, smoking with wood is just night right and there are some big disadvantages to them compared to your more TX style grills.
I have an idea for a split trolley direct heat smoker meets Santa Maria meats offset pizza oven. But I haven’t welded in years!
I'm so glad a brilliant TH-camr is finally reviewing this very exciting all-in-one BBQ
Thanks! Brilliant may be a bit of a reach, but thanks for the compliment!
Hey Greg, I know you don't do a lot of shorts but can you please do a sexy short reel which showcases all the features of the El Patron so everyone can get excited about it?
You'll have to do a pizza or two on this cooker for all of us pizza lovers.
Pretty impressive. Hope you have a Happy Father's Day. Cheers, Greg! 👍🏻👍🏻✌️
Thank you, Dwayne! We had a really nice day. Hope you did as well.
It should come with wedding vows because You’ll have it till you’re last bad day .
True words!
thats a Swiss amongst the multi purpose, what a machine!
Exactly what I said talking to my wife about this!
@@BallisticBBQ ohlol
Very nice.
looks Great ..🙂👍🥂
Thank you 😋
Wow!
Can you put coals on the difusor and use it as a gaucho/argentinian asador?
Will you review how it performs on the different applications?
Hmmm….NO discussion on how you remove the charcoal/wood ash????
You open the door and scoop it out with a dust pan or a shop vac. This was brand-spanking new when I shot this. But seeing that you add the fuel via the large door on the front, I guess I assumed it was obvious. I've cleaned it twice since I shot this video, and it was very simple.
SOLD! I want one. 🙂
Best Father's Day present was seeing you got an El Patron 😊. Mine was delivered 3 weeks ago (Ordered Jan 8, 2024). I've got a seasoning and 2 cooks under my belt. Looking forward to upcoming El Patron videos from your channel. My only issue is the adjustable grate does not raise as high as 5" from the cooking grate due to the cable loop and the quick link attachment.
I'm wondering if that could be fixed with a smaller cable collar? Thanks for the info!
@@BallisticBBQ Yeah I looked at smaller quick links and that doesn't seem to solve the issue. Maybe a small chain link, then you loose the ability quickly detach.
Maybe Chris will see this and come up with a solution. Mine tops out at 8.5 inches.
If I had the $$$ and didn't already have a Hasty Bake Legacy, THIS would be the one to get!!! Hoping you can do a cook on this with wood splits - maybe some ribs or chicken?
100%! I will be running this through the BBQ gauntlet!
Some of the core features of the Easy Bake. But interesting extra features make this a great all purpose unit.
Exactly. Easy Bake started this, but LSG took it to another level. Should be interested to watch the hotbox war that may be brewing.
@@BallisticBBQIf I hadn’t just purchased a very nice pellet grill to go with my WSM. If they ever need a beta guy……😏🙏
Pricey @ $1,995.00 + tax & shipping and any accessories.Looking forward to future cooking videos with that beast.
Let's see some cooks on this one
How about a Prime rib on the Rotisserie??
Happy Father's Day to you Greg from Tennessee...Hi to K and G for me
Yo! Big hug to your K. Talk to you soon.
Somebody was thinking!
Do wireless thermometers like the meater work with thhis Grill?
I'd think it would be a Faraday's cage and not let any signal trough which could be annoying.
They do work in this (and all of my other pits) including my larger smoker made from 1/4" steel. A Faraday cage requires continuous conductivity and the door being painted and sealed where contact is made with the rest of the cooking chamber breaks the conductivity.
I bought a recteq 700 smoker love it ... works great .... but ... i wish i had waited a month and bought the LSG pellet smoker ...
Hindsight is 20/20, but you got a good pellet cooker. You may want to upgrade eventually one of these days.
Seems like a versatile grill. Did you purchase this with your own money?
Will be curious to know how a brisket turns out on this vs an offset. I know Chris did a brisket on the rotisserie, but anxious to hear about a non-rotisserie brisket from a 3rd party. How would you expect the brisket on this to turn out vs traditional offset?
I just did my first longer cook the other day (video Sunday). This was only my third cook, so it was more of an experiment/learning opportunity for me. I'm very confident that I will be able to cook a good brisket now. It held very stable temps throughout the entire cook.
👋🏻😍🍻🤩👍🏻🇮🇹 Interesting... Happy father's Day, Greg‼️
Thank you! Cheers!
Looks interesting but I am not seeing grease management or cleaning to be an easy task. Maybe in some future vids. I really like the Spider Huntsman with the same type of build quality but in a 22" form factor and automated.
Great comment. Cleaning this cooker is exactly like cleaning a Santa Maria grill. On this cook, I was using a water pan, so the drippings splashed into the pan. If not using a pan, the drippings would have dropped onto the charcoal grate, which was being used as a defuser. the drippings would have cooked on the defuser, and a wire brush our scraper would clean it off with no problem. If I was truly cooking over direct heat with the charcoal/wood on the fire brick at the bottom of the pit, the drippings would vaporize, seasoning the meat, just like a Santa Maria. As far as cleaning the ash, you open the firebox door and one of those large shop sized dust pans fit inside easily. Just brush the ash into the pan and dump, or use a shop vac. It's not difficult. The Huntsman looks pretty cool and seems like a good price. Not sure it's an apples to apples comparison, however. Thanks, Joe!
I would like to see the seasoning process in a video. Thanks.
I linked Chris' seasoning process video on this one towards the end. th-cam.com/video/ahzhIWb6S4o/w-d-xo.html
Hasty- Bake has been doing that for decades. They are the original all in one grill, smoke, bake units.
The Hasty Bake was near the top of my short list for new cookers along with the El Patron. However, the El Patron won me over with how versatile it is. It arrives at the end of this week after 4 long months of waiting.
You're correct, they are the original.
There’s so many new videos you can do with this
My thoughts exactly!
That’s is a nice looking grill?
Love all your videos. I already have a smoker and grill and flat top.I’ll continue to watch you having fun with the new one but $2000 before add ons is just too much for my hobby.
I get it, Jim. Cheers, brother!
This one smokes the Camado!!!! Literally
Literally! Watching the final edit I realized I forgot to mention how much a pain a Kamado is if you need to add fuel.
Is this shipped unassembled in several boxes or do you need a forklift to unload it?
They ship on a pallet. Litigate delivered
Weber kettle can do it all too for much cheaper
Well, I love the good old Weber Kettle, but really apples to oranges here. It can do a lot, but as soon as you set it up for low n slow, you lose half of your cooking surface. Instead of being able to raise and lower the charcoal grate, you need to set up two zones, again losing half of your cooking surface. This being said, I truly love kettle grills, and for those on a budget, they are hard to beat.
Terrific vid. Nice grill. I need to get a bigger house to have room for just ONE MORE grill. Just one, then I’m done. No, really - just one more grill…………. Just one…I promise………. LOL
I've had conversations like that! LOL!
@@BallisticBBQ substitute SURFBOARDS or MOTORCYCLES or KNIVES and I have had that conversation a million times…..
Why would lone star sell an all in one with a thermometer that can’t handle hit cooking pizza temps? That thermometer would be destroyed. I little detail makes a big difference. Cool concept though! Simple fix, but if it’s labeled all in one for that price point should have proper temp gauge to cover all uses
Not an issue
So 900 degrees will not ruin that thermometer? Hard to believe. And how are you supposed to know what temperature you are cooking at after 500 degrees?
I still love my Primo, which cost squillions. So am admiring from afar. 😂
Primo (in my opinion) made the best ceramic grills. Not sure if any changes were made after the buy out. Great Kamado though.
❤️👍
Can it get as hot as the GOZNEY Pizza Oven ?
How hot dies the pizza oven get. Looks like the gauge reads to almost 500???? Pizza ovens should be like 875-925????
It will get there, but I would pull the thermometer out before I did it.
I'll let you know when I use it, but I've seen videos of it in action, and it looks like it puts out some great pizza.
Not enough real estate, if you want to buy and buy once. Small Santa Maria and a real Gravity Fed all day long. I have way too many cookers myself including two Kamado Joes. And honestly the Kamados are my only regret of buying of a cooker.
This has the exact width in grill space as my Santa Maria, and the depth is about 4" deeper.
I've been thinking about getting rid of mine. Just high heat grilling is all I do with it
Where do the pellets go???
Hahahaha
How many million dollars does it cost?
Did you say 450 lbs?
I did, yes.
I have a problem: I don’t want one cooker to do everything! I like having multiple pits! 😂
I share that same problem. Ask my wife!!!!!
Looks like a chudd box
It's much better.
The big green egg cooks better, is much more simple, and the insulation is the industry standard. My set up is BGE, flattop, offset true smoker. All purchasable local same day. This thing is trash.
Something that does it all, fails shortly after
Looks like LSG tried to make a Hasty Bake
So did, 1904, TMG, Royal, Hurtado, Deep Creek, Chuds, Galindo, Centex, Ford, Chevy... This is what happens in a free market. Others take a good idea and make it better. If it didn't work this way, we'd all be driving the same car and there'd only be one pellet cooker on the market.
Just so much stuff I don't need or want. And paying for materials that just aren't necessary to me. Basically Yes it could replace all my stuff, but all my stuff works, and is paid for. I also don't like how proprietorial it is. Reminds me of Weber. Anyway looks cool, betcha it works great based on the company but its a hard pass for me. Enjoy.
I get it, pretty much any handmade smoker will be proprietorial. The nice thing is it will last a lifetime. But if you don't need it, you don't need it.
@@BallisticBBQ thanks for your response and candor. It is part of the reason I sub your channel.
2500 bucks...
You're right, it's less than a Traeger Timberline.
@@BallisticBBQ looks like a solid piece of artwork to me!
