    I was just in this like 3 hours ago. Let me tell you it’s funny how no one slows down in these conditions. I watched numerous cars and trucks colliding because of that main reason. I started driving on the shoulder to let them pass when I see them flying up behind me. Get down the road and they’re in a ditch or done hit several other vehicles. It’s actually between Winchester KY and Lexington KY even on I75 it’s bad accidents everywhere smh!

      All of the interstates in Kentucky scare me! I thought Ohio was bad - Cincinnati is a mess! In KY, people drive 85-90mph in the 70mph zone, even in heavy rain! Large trucks flying at 80mph.

      @@thomask4836 Once some guy blew past me on the interstate like I was parked and I was doing 65. He was lane weaving and cut me off. I was glad when he was by me. Twenty minutes later there he was on the side of the road, a PA state trooper parked behind him. You comment made me laugh and think of that. How to prevent rear end collisions when stopping-
    Stop about 30 to 40 feet earlier than you would. Then as the vehicle behind you approaches, roll forward keeping your foot gently resting on the brake. You will roll forward the 30 to 40 feet. This forces the vehicles in back of you to start braking sooner and essentially gives them 30 to 40 feet of extra braking distance. If you keep your foot resting on the brake, the driver behind you will never know that you actually stopped 30 to 40 feet further back than normal - from their perspective you just look like your stopped the whole time.

    • @sheridan1887
      @sheridan1887 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      good idea, but it doesn't always work. . if the vehicle behind you is going way too fast, they won't be able to stop in time. so, even if you have that 30 to 40 foot cushion, they will be coming at you faster than you can speed up to avoid. and that also depends on the other vehicles behind them being able to react properly because as we know, when driving most people are only looking 1 to 2 seconds in front of them.

    Pro Tips for Winter Driving. Before the season, check your tires, make sure they have good tread. If you cant afford two sets then get all season tires with good rain/snow ratings. Slow Down Before, During and After a Snow/Rain Storm, as compacted snow/frozen ground makes for slippery situations.

    Interesting that there is such a go-go mentality in society. We can't seem to step back and just tell everyone to stay home for a day. Take a time out while the weather event passes. It's all about making that money at all costs. This is an example of how business places profit before all else. No matter how dangerous conditions are, we are expected to get out there and do the job or get to the job to make that money.

      The upside of being on the highway is, you're going in the same direction at about the same speed. There are no pedestrians or cross traffic or stop lights/signs. If you just slow down, you'll be fine, usually. If you hit ice, all bets are off.

      They don’t even run the plows at night outside of the towns in Alaska, and everyone knows this. In 5 winters I never came across a single stuck car at night either. Probably because the risk of freezing to death is significant. Never got into a situation where two sets of triple rail trygg chains and full lockers couldn’t get me through. I did call it a night early a couple times though. Best to wait until about 1030 am after a storm before heading to the next distant town unless you drive a semi. And I find winter driving in Wyoming more dangerous;) that wind is awful!
