    I have modified the uncovered front wheels by using extra panelling,spray painted grey and constructed to loosely fit like the rear canopy and very easily removed. As the build contours, colouring and shading plus distraction of stickers are mixed, my addition fits in beautifully. Great content as usual.

    Thanks for the great review. I think the set looks awesome. $200 is expensive, but I think the Peugeot is a better deal than the $240 classic Defender right now and it will display well. I honestly feel like the new defender 90 only needed about 1200 pieces, but they needed to add a bunch a stuff because the marketing team had a high price point set for it so the designers were like, "well..I guess we can add an overengineered roof rack and a gas can, no, better make that 2 gas cans and this fire extinguisher and 'road version'". I hope Technic continues making cool car sets like they have this year.

  • @Mocsfromscratch
    @Mocsfromscratch ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I completely agree with you that the LEGO Technic Peugeot 9x8 NEEDS a gearbox. In fact, we haven't got a gearbox for a long time. The January 2023 wave did not have gearboxes, the March 2023 wave also did not have gearboxes. And now we have the new LEGO Technic Peugeot 9x8 that does not have a gearbox. But there is a reason why it does not a transmission. It is because the transmission should be located between the engine and the rear axle. There is literally no space for a transmission. And the reason why it does not have a function-switching gearbox is because this is a branded Technic car and it is not really realistic to the real-life counterpart. Also, that sticker on that panel underneath represents the battery that powers the electric motor that drives the front wheels, not the transmission 5:47.

    • @Unbrickme
      @Unbrickme  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If it represents the battery, then the press release was completely wrong. There is no transmission at all

    I actually appreciate the absence of a gearbox (at least the 7-8 speed version). IMHO, they are tedious to build, add expense and are pretty much impossible to show off after completion. I wish there were alternate builds of the big1:8 sets for those of us who don’t value a complicated gearbox.

    Technic cars have come a long way in the last 15 years, especially when compared to the sets I grew up with in the 80s and 90s. It's about the essence of the car, and I don't mind not having the transmission functionality. It would cost much more otherwise.

    • @LimChingLiang
      @LimChingLiang ปีที่แล้ว

      Electric motor act as boost and distribution torque even. If Electric motor fitted at back & Engine output also drive back shaft.....the massive torque will make the car undrivable plus rear tires will take all the stress. This Hypercar are participating FIA 6 hours endurance racing, keeping tyre are part of racing. You cannot keep going pitstop change tyre.

    @extranceIT ปีที่แล้ว

    I think that the title is misleading. Commonly with "gearbox" we mean the X-speed transmission gearbox. I get your point, but I don't see how they could've included such feature in any way.
    As you said a transmission gearbox wasn't necessary, I'd add that there's physically no space for it.
    But why a distribution gearbox? You need a distribution gearbox if you have functions to operate through a single mechanism. There's no such feature in this model, nor they could've added any. They could've done something with the doors, but that's it, they couldn't even make a functions for opening the hood since it makes no sense in such a car.
    For me the real missing "feature" is the motorization possibility. There's no much space, but I can see MODs of this set in the future to seamlessly include a motor on the front differential instead of the fake electric motor, and to swap the HOG mechanism in favor of a servo motor.
    LEGO could've made a couple of changes, still sell this set at 200€, but with the possibility to upgrade it on our own by adding extra steps that shows how to motorize the set. I'm not a fan of motorized cars and RC Lego cars, but it would just be a feature for who was willing to spend more for extra motors and batteries. Wouldn't have changed the experience or the result for who buys the set alone

    • @Unbrickme
      @Unbrickme  ปีที่แล้ว

      A distribution gearbox would allow for easy, out of the box motorization with official instructions. In the 2015 24 hours race car, it had a distribution gearbox with the option to connect a motor to it.
      If there is no gearbox, naturally, there is no motor upgradeability

    • @extranceIT
      @extranceIT ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Unbrickme Yes, but the motorization involved only the functions: doors and Engine cover.
      In this set those two features wouldn’t fit, or not as well. They were fine in the 24h race car, but in an official set they wouldn’t mimic any real function

  • @bami2
    @bami2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don't really miss the gearbox, lots of other sets have very interesting technic features and this car is just too flat to fit a lot of functionality in. If they really wanted a gearbox in, they would've removed some other things like probably the HOG steering (or connection to the steering joke) or removed the suspension from the rear, which I think are more important to this set than an actual gearbox.
    What I do like though is the general aesthetics of the car, the suspension system, the outrunner electric motor (even though it looks a bit simple, I really like how they implemented the hybrid power train), and this seems like a great parts donor with all the dark blueish grey parts. My only complaint really is that the gears for the steering rack are very visible and could've been minimized somewhat by using black gears with a slightly different gear ratio, see RacingBricks review.
    I really like the Pewgott and I'll probably get this set, just not at the MSRP (lol €200), but probably in like a year when the price has dropped to somewhere around 120-140€.

    • @Unbrickme
      @Unbrickme  ปีที่แล้ว

      Good points! Honestly I actually like the exposed steering gears.

  • @pilcrow1546
    @pilcrow1546 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Don't care for the missing gearbox. On the 42110 Defender for example, it is just a pain to deal with.
    What Lego desperately need to improve are those wheel hubs. Look at the amount of slop in them when you're demonstrating the suspension and differentials! I had high hopes when the pieces were first announced, but they're still such a massive disappointment several years later... I hope we'll eventually get some better versions, and hopefully types that allow for more interesting suspension set-ups than the basic double wishbone design Lego include on literally every single set...

    Question for unbrickme: Does the 42110 gearbox actually work like a real car?
    Like when the gearbox switches to drive mode, Does it only go forward and when it’s reverse, it can only go reverse?
    Please answer since I am buying this set 😊

    • @Unbrickme
      @Unbrickme  ปีที่แล้ว

      The reverse switch simply reverses the direction of the engine. It’s not like you’ll be unable to roll the car forward in reverse. In reverse, it has only 1 speed. In drive, it has four speeds, along with a high and low setting, meaning there is actually a total of 8 speeds
