It's quite a good comparison because the Acela is designed to very quickly hop from town to town along the East coast whereas the TGV is more of a long distance quick cruiser, designed to get to max speed and stay there as long as possible as it rushes through the countryside
LaZeR JET the reason why the Acela Express trains are bulkier than the TGV’s are because of the Federal Railroad Administration’s Tier II crashworthiness standards, making it 45% heavier than the TGV
David sims 200 trains, transport, and more I feel you man, I love the first generation Acela trains. They’re my favorite, but I’ll be sad to see them leave service and be replaced by these Avelia Liberty sets
the real reason is DTG doesn’t care about realism. the physics, sounds, and model of the acela in train simulator are all inaccurate. they do not take off that fast. the tgv physics and sounds are also inaccurate and the model might be inaccurate in some places but i’m not sure. also, there is two acela sets coupled together doubling the power.
Carlos Bermudez A train set here means a uniform train consisting of a fixed number of coaches. These coaches are semi permanently attached to each other and each coach plays a role in running the train. The Acela too, is a EMU train set.
Technically, TGV runs on 1500V DC on classical french lines electrified before the 80's, also the 3000V DC from belgian & italian lines, and the "germanic" 15kV 16,67Hz alternative current, depending from the specs you want.
The reason the acela express is so bulky compared to the tgv train is because the acela express was beefed up to match the US federal railroad administration standards it was so bulky and heavy that the French workers that manufactured the acela express nicknamed the trains le cochon (the pig)
This is a weird test, the TGV is so much faster than the Acela, in fact the TGV is actually the fastest conventional high speed train in the world! A modified TGV Duplex went 574kph, while the regular TGV service operates at 320kph (200mph). By comparison the Acela can only go 150mph, and is severely limited due the short distance of high speed track on the north east corridor, so it rarely gets to go the full 150mph, only averaging around 80mph on a full trip. Not bagging on the Acela, it's an awesome train, but it's pretty slow by modern high speed rail standards.
I'd vote for the TGV, it's a lot faster and better than the Acela Express. Not only that, in real life. The TGV Duplex was once modified as the TGV V150. Which reached 574km/h
The pedals in the TGV is for the deadman system (i think).Basicly the driver needs to press them down slightly to make the train move, if he releases them the train stops!
The Acela was America's REAL high speed train. If you can recall the original TGV, it looked a bit like the Acela does now. That's like the first stepping stone in our High Speed endeavors.
The Acela is that big because of FRA crash requirements. Amtrak's chairman once said that the Acela is not just the Western Hemisphere's first high-speed train, but also the world's first high-speed bank vault.
you wonder why the Acela express is so slow and why the TGV is so fast? well it's simple, the Acela express has classic cars that can be coupled to all kinds of different trains but the tgv has cars which have a single bogie which makes them safer and more aerodinamic and the tgv has two locomotives, one which pulls the train and one which pushes the train at the same time I hope you liked my explanation😀🙂🚄
@Diego Bautista Actually the old Acela could probably do as good as any other trains if it was put on an SNCF, DB or even Shinkansen line. I heard that the train itself can go way above 200mph but what's holding it back operationally are the infrastructure.
we call the pedals in the SNCF in the Netherlands the * dodemansknop *, then a beep sounds every minute and then the train driver must step on the pedals. if he / she does not, the train will automatically stop. so it is a security system
The TGV is a diesel electric? Since when? This must be some new thing which I've not been told about. Seriously, you might want to change the video, or something. It's just embarrassing.
I wonder how the Acela Express would perform on the French rails? American rails aren't built for the kinds of speeds that some of the Euro trains are capable of reaching.
But the TGV is the first high-speed train of the world and this is a game, not the real life. The truth is here: th-cam.com/video/8skXT5NQzCg/w-d-xo.html

only reason why the acela won out in acceleration is because you had 2 acela train sets coupled together doubling the tractive effort and tourqe of the TGV. in real life the acela runs as a single set unlike some TGV and ICE trainsets of europe.
top speed of Acele Express 165 mph (266 km/h) top speed of TGV Duplex 196 mph (316 km/h) so yeah tgv should win as its top speed is faster as the Acela Express but i still like the Acela more by model
A few things, one the TGV is not a diesel electric it's an electric just like the Acela. While the TGV rails are capable of speeds of 199MPH. This was an Amtrak requirement, though Alstom says is not necessary. The replacement for the Acela, is planned to be the Alstom Avelia Liberty which is said to initially increase top speed to 160MPH, with higher speeds possible up to 220MPH is track infrastructure upgrades allow, In the current political climate in the US, I think the chances of this is slim to none, and most likely the latter.
