    I photographed this for Truck & Driver, I was given full access to the whole crew.

    It all depends on where your at if the police are required to escort, and btw they don't supervise, they are there to keep pedestrians and other motor vehicles from getting in the way. Don't worry about the trees they most likely anticipated they'd take them out but since they are little they didn't remove them they'll just replace them after. The front and rear of this type of trailers are steered independently, speed is controlled by both drivers and steering is controlled by trailer operator

    Logistical nightmare comes to mind . Hats off to the people that figured out the best route but the driver & crew deserve some cold beers after delivery. Hope you guys had some cold ones.

    So Leroy standing in the open on the back of a truck in america is better than sitting in a nice purpose built cab which protects the crew from pouring and sometimes freezing rain,,, No i'll take the British option i think. Top work ALE always a pleasure to see you shift so many loads without incident.

    length is about 70-80 metres , even longer when they put extra traction at front and rear , not sure about the load weight on this one, most of the ones i escorted were up wards of 200ton , loads of prep work was done prior to these moves (trees cut down and walls /fences removed )

    They cant build the power stations near the motorways as the governing factors are the fuel supply and the cooling water, hence why they are built near the rivers. In the case of west burton, this site was chosen in the 60s due to the nearby coal fields and river trent. The people carrying out these moves have to consult with the authorities in order to ensure that the roads will be capable of supporting the weight. They came down these roads as the loads were dropped by ship at Cottam first.

    Did I see the load off the paved road but not the rubber tires carrying it? how much drive time does the drives have that driving this rig? are the speed of all the trucks controlled by one driver?
    Thank you

  • @brendonc515
    @brendonc515 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    The route would have been planned and agreed with the local authorities weeks or even months before the move, so i very much doubt a Sat Nav was being used.

    • @paulwilliams8555
      @paulwilliams8555 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm sure the route had been approved in advance. My question is , if everyone knew in advance , why wasn't the tree at least temporarily transplanted? Maybe the owner just wanted to stick it to the township in some perverse revenge for some past grievence with the township. Why else unless he's an arborterrorist that likes to inflict pain on young defenceless saplings. It could happen.

    Put in some 4ft steel-reinforced concrete bollards as well next time you replant (with about 4ft underground as well), give them something to think about. Maybe just put the trees in a big concrete planter, even.

  • @paulwilliams8555

    Why couldn't the rear tractor , with it's steerable wheels , have gone straight ahead like the rear of a hook and ladder fire truck?

    • @stevewilson2745
      @stevewilson2745 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      if i remember right, all its doing is pushing. it doesnt determine where the rear of the trailer goes. that is all controlled by the trailer itself. besides, it DID go straight on around the corner, but the load is so long it HAD to go over the corner like that to make it. sometimes, things just happen. lol.

    Hey Andy
    Can you tell me why don't they use those huge mining trucks for transporting generators instead of loooong trucks full of wheels? It seems that it would be less hassle dealing with a much shorter (though taller) truck.

    • @squach6239
      @squach6239 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      oberon79 Mainly the weight,it wouldn't be dispersed enough and would cause crush damage! Also the width would be to much.Mainly weight distribution though I'm thinking!

    • @stace3037
      @stace3037 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also, height. Using this method keeps the load very close to the ground so it can fit under bridges, electric cables etc.

    • @numbersix100

      do you have any idea what you are talking about? routes of this sort of projects are always the best route there could be. those trees could'nt be avoided. if they could avoid those trees, they would be too small to actually have effect on the environment. please get educated
