He then spotted a grain train on his track, and applied the emergency brake, but it was already too late. The front engine jumped on top of the grain hopper at the end of the others. Then a passenger train, Amtrak, then came at around 8:00 A.M., the driver of the one engine used the emergency brakes, but he couldn’t stop in time either. The drivers of both trains managed to bail before each collision. They survived with no injuries.

First Responders were on the scene in minutes as well as BNSF work trains. The Manifest had three engines BNSF SD40-2 7316 and BNSF SD40-2 6887 painted in H1 and BN SD40-2 8070, 3 train cars of the Manifest train derailed BNSF 7316 derailed, 6887 and 8070 were upright. 1 car of the Grain train derailed Luckly no fire or chemical spill happened despite the lead engine leaking fuel. On the Amtrak train the Engine and 2 passengers cars derailed. The National Transportation Safety Board or NTSB said that the driver and conductor of the BNSF Manifest was at fault because they passed a red signal because he was on his phone distracted. According to BNSF cell phones must be locked in crewmembers bags the entire time on duty. This is what caused accidents like the Clarendon train collision in 2002 when a driver used his phone while driving and passed a red signal, and in 2015 when the Sandersville train crash happened when a NS Intermodal driver was on the phone at the wrong time, then in 2011 The Red Oak train crash happened when a BNSF Coal train rear ended a Maintenance equipment train when the Coal train engineer and conducter not paying attention even though they saw the train they still took no actions. After the accident all engines were back to service 7316 was repaired and repainted in H3 while 6887 was repaired and repainted to H4 and renumbered to 6745, 8070 lost the BN paint scheme and changed to H3. The 1 car of the BNSF Grain train was scrapped the 3 cars of the BNSF Manifest train were repaired and repainted. The Amtrak P40DC was repaired and repainted to Phase 4. The derailed Amtrak cars were repaired and continued service in 2012 the cars were repainted to Phase 4. After 2 Days BNSF cleared and repaired Main track 1 and re-opened trains have to travel at a restricted speed of 10MPH instead of the normal speed of 35 MPH, trains also have blow their horns to let them know there coming, after 1 Week every thing was back to normal. And BNSF has made a very clear policy now to be very careful with other trains and railroads traveling on their tracks.
There was a wreck in 2008 when a Metrolink train rammed into a Union Pacific freight train because the driver of the Metrolink train was using his phone on duty.
From my understanding he was going 30 mph, he passed a signal that indicates that he should've been traveling at a speed he is able to stop his train within half range of vision, however its a good thing that wasn't a hazmat car he ran into!!!

The cause of the wreck was that the driver was having drugs on the job and missed a red signal. Sadly he lost his life in the wreck after metal came through the window and killed him instantly. The lead loco also ruptured its fuel tank and caught on fire. The lead loco, last car of the train it hit, and 3 cars on its train derailed. Since there was only 1 crew member on the train, there was nobody to report the wreck, and later an Amtrak Empire Builder train came and hit some wreckage and derailed. The entire Amtrak train derailed and sadly 7 people where killed on that train. Edit: 3 cars on its train derailed.

Upon future investigation the NTSB concluded that The engineer of BNSF 7618 Missed a 🟥🚦 telling him that the track ahead was blocked hitting the rear of a 🌾 train. Unaware of the accident Amtrak 802 Southeast Corridor going into Los Angeles clipped the derailed freight cars overrunning in the cajon pass. More on the news at 10pm
At least we know that the red signal was not faulty. However, the placement of the derailed coil car on the opposite line was not placed to engage a signal for the Amtrak train.
Now I been driving trains for csx for a year now n can say is ik that engineer had time to stop now if that was a problem with his brakes different story

First of all, locomotives don't crash & climb a rail car. They smash and tear off rolling stock off the tracks. What a phony way to sucker rail fans to see this make believe dog and pony show. Walt Disney cartoons at it's best. That's some valuable minute's of my life I can't ask God to give back to me. He won't turn back the hands of time for me because I fell for this train scam.
