I read in שפתי חיים (I cant remember which book) that Avraham used to visit Yishmael and they had a relationship till the end of his days. I wonder if that means that he did do תשובה
You're right. It's highly likely Yishmael DID do חזרה בתשובה before Avraham died. The relationship & life of Avraham with Yishmael is not known fully, so we cannot be haste in condemning him.
