GREAT VIDEO-VERY INFORMATIVE-WAS ABLE TO DISCOVER MY MECHANISM WAS BROKEN AS WELL AS HANDLE DURING ATTEMTED BREAK IN---- I GOT A SECOND HAND ONE £20 AND WAS ABLE TO REPLACE BOTH HANDLE AND MECHANISM WITH THE HELP OF THIS VIDEO AS I DIDNT KNOW HOW TO REMOVE OR REPLACE HANDLE 10 OUT OF 10 MY FRIEND THANKS
Great - thank you very much for showing how to secure the cap- my rear offside just fell out when opening door after 6 mths of almost no use of that door.
@@eldigitom9680 The end cap is loose for the rear passenger side door for my Golf. The cap rattles and has some free play when touching the cap. What do you suggest to properly fasten and secure this cap to the door? Thank you.
@@user-kc1tf7zm3b I would suggest going through the removal and replacement process in the video, and after you get the cap out, visually inspect it to see if it’s damaged or not. If it doesn’t seem to be damaged, try installing it again as per the video. Maybe it just had not been installed properly at some time. .
i have a vw passat 2014 , and the left door from behind is locked with the child safety lock on , the door does not open from inside OR outside , something is damaged inside . what do you think in order to open the door can I release the cable removing the door handle from outside (there is a hole on the side of the door where I am not able to rich with any tools-door being locked , or I need to destroy from inside the inner panel door ? if I DESTROY THE HANDLE FROM OUTSIDE DO YOU THINK I CAN OPEN THE DOOR FIRST , AND AFTER DISASAMLE THE THE INTERIOR PANEL , REMOVE THE DEFECTIVE PART AND INSTALL A NEW HANDLE IF DAMAGED .than you
Honestly, I’m not even sure where to start on that. Sometimes we’ll get a car in with that situation and we just try a million different things trying to gain access. They make cars anymore where it’s almost impossible to remove that interior trim panel without ruining it and they are very expensive to replace. So I’m afraid I’m not very helpful with your door problem.✌🏻
thank you, I know that either the interior panel or handle will be destroyed but if I REMOVE THE HANDLE FROM OUTSIDE CONSIDERING TO BUY A NEW ONE AFTER , DO YOU THINK I CAN OPEN AND UNLOCK THE DOOR , AND AFTER THAT I COULD REMOVE NORMALLY THE INSIDE DOOR PANEL USING SCREWDRIVER AFTER DOOR IS OPEN ?; IN OTHER WORDS IF I FORCE , DRILL, DAMAGE THE HANDLE FROM OUTSIDE (NOT HAVING ACCES FROM THE SIDE DOOR) DO YOU THINK I CAN OPEN THE DOOR ?
if the outside handle is not opening the door now, breaking it off will only give you access to the same lever the handle moves. So, no I don't think it will help. Are you sure the door is unlocking? Is there a locking stem coming out the top of trim panel? Or bumping the key fob constantly not unlocking the door?@@nickdabija2703
Thx, It may depend on the year. I also have a video on a 2014 Jetta and it releases by pulling... th-cam.com/video/gJobKbxmSgs/w-d-xo.html These Germans always try to keep you guessing
It should just push in once the cap is positioned correctly… if I am understanding properly what you mean by grub screw. This handle does not use a screw. Just a push in plunger to lock the cap on.
@2:43 it shows the installation of the bracket. To remove; back out torx screw, slide rearward, ears will disengage, Door latch is removed by unfastening 2 spline bolts inside the jam.
Thanks for the video. I have a 2017 Passat and the passenger rear handle will not stay on the carrier, pulls off completely when the handle is pulled. Is this common? Is the repair typically replacing the handle or replacing the carrier inside the door? Do you have a part number for the carrier? Thanks again.
It still pulls out of the carrier even with the cap installed? There is a small L-shaped lip on the handle that catches the carrier lever, if it is sheared off, you’ll need a handle, but if not something in the carrier may be damaged. Sorry I don’t have a part number for that. There are several years and models that use this style. Good luck JV✌️
Yes (as per the video), I only included the inside bracket footage in case the door hardware was being swapped out. The only thing required to remove the outside handle is the peephole cover.
@@eldigitom9680 Thank you very much. I have a 2006 Bentley Continental GT and the micro switch that operates the electronic lock to the door (built into the hinged part of the handle) has failed, so wanted to investigate before removing the interior panel. I can’t say for sure that it will be the same on all four doors but I imagine it will. This is a very common method of removing a door handle on Volkswagen and Audi products. As for the Q7, I’m not sure if I have a video on my TH-cam site but you could check it. I only have about 15 videos that you would need to scroll through. Good luck!
Yes, that door was being replaced. But even so, it can be done without damaging the paint. I do it all the time, no need to be so squeamish, it just requires a little touch.
Hi, I have a problem with my 2011 Jetta, I can not open the passenger door, in or out. The latch mechanism did not work anymore. Please help me with some info if you have.Thank you
Have you tried opening it in every possible way? Key fob, inside switch, key at the handle? On most of these models if you pop off that plastic cap on the driver side door there is a slot for a key that you can use, it sounds as though it is not getting fully unlocked.
Oh sorry, you mentioned a passenger side door, my mistake. Still I would try hitting the key fob several times and try and manually to unlock the button on the door as well. Good luck.
I did, and do it all the time. This door was replaced but no need to be so squeamish, it’s not gonna hurt anything. Basically it’s just a fingernail extension.
It’s a spring hook tool, originally used for pulling headlight springs for cars in the 70s and 80s. I’ve had it for over 40 years. You can find similar ones on Amazon for a few dollars.
Bummer, must be a different set up. It’s frustrating that German car makers have so many different handle installations, similar in some ways, but others uniquely different.
This was so helpful. When our door handle popped off I was sure I’d be in for a 1-2 hour repair. Instead door was fixed in less than 10 min

When you say point the hook to the left which way is that? Toward the handle or toward the interior of the car?
toward the skin, or outside of the door--sorry to be unclear.
