It released in a state that made the game unplayable for certain individuals and was not fully fixed until months after release. It destroyed the well-thought out balance of the original for seemingly no reason. It made token improvements that everyone knew would be added while messing up every new addition and removing certain mechanics that could have easily been expanded upon and improved. It completely destroyed the prison-breakout-story feel of the original in favour of absurdist and uninteresting settings. It completely destroyed the sandbox nature of the original in favour of extremely linear levels that only accept certain playstyles to appeal to multiplayer. It worsened the controls and gamefeel by a massive degree to make it more suitable for console. It dummed down the series by a ludicrous amount to make it appealing to children and only children. It removed most nuance, tension, excitement and difficulty from the original with no improvement over it. Yet no one complained about it, because no one bothered to. The developers were able to avoid a catastrophe by knowledge that their playerbase consisted of children and unengaged people who wouldn't care to critique the game too much. I bet most people simply bought it for the multiplayer or to test it out and never interacted with it again. It's a game that avoids negativity by being so unengaging that no one desires to critique it. It avoids critique by being multiplayer slop and nothing more. A game is not good because it's fun with friends. Pissing on an electrical wire with your friends is fun. Anything with friends is fun. The Escapists 2 could have been a masterpiece. It could have been fantastic. It had every ingredient for it. It had a genius concept, a game of experience before it to know what to do right, a dedicated playerbase who openly voiced for what they wanted in the sequel. Yet the result is plain mediocrity. Complete disappointment. An utter failure that is worse in almost every way to it's predecessor. Given all that, I wish for you to retract your statement.
