We put Lowes carpets in in 2018. We went middle of the road on quality, higher but not top on padding. We replaced the whole top floor (3 bedrooms, upper landing, hallway and staircase. It is just the two of us, no kids, but we use the upstairs every day, multiple trips up and down. Now, almost 5 full years later, it is still in great shape. Redoing the rental house this next week…also using Lowes.
It was eight years ago so I don't remember the details, but I also had problems with Lowes and my local installer (Chicago suburbs) scheduling the install. At some point, Lowes said the carpet was still unavailable and wouldn't show up for 6 - 12 weeks and I planned my move around that. A few days later, the installer called and said they had the carpet and wanted to install ASAP. It cost me more on the install because I had moved furniture in since I didn't want to live 6 - 12 weeks without furniture; so the carpet installers had to move furniture in each room instead of installing in the house that had been empty just a few days earlier.
I totally understand why you did this and it does make sense! We had wood laminate in both kids rooms that flooded and have to be replaced. We’re going with carpet now bc OMG THE KIDS ARE LOUD!! lol We’re hoping to dampen some the noise.
yeah. If it's just noise you are worried about and don't want carpet, LVP with Smartcore Soft and Sound padding really does a good job killing stomping noise. We ended up doing that everywhere else upstairs because plans changed when we realized how bad the existing floors really were. And I've been very surprised and impressed with the LVP. Put it in the new babies room too because well 1 girl in that room vs 2 boys in the carpet room haha. But the carpet really is nice if they little wrestlers like mine.
Did you notice a smell coming from the carpet? I bought a Stainmaster carpet a month ago and its had such a strong smell. I haven't been able to sleep in my bedroom the entire month and I'm seriously thinking to remove it. It's been such a distressing experience and I see a lot of articles online about carpet off-gassing, but they all say that it should stop smelling within a week, but its been over a month on my end now...
No, we didn't experience that, thank God. It just had the normal 'new carpet' mild smell that I find pleasing, similar to that new car smell, and dissipates after a couple days. If I had any unbearable smell, I'd be beating down the door to get new carpet installed. I can't imagine feeling like I couldn't sleep in my own room from a botched install/bad product. I'll pray God gives you the wisdom, courage and brings you good people to help remedy your issue.
I hassled the shit out of Lowe’s and it took like a month for them to do anything (I legit slept in a hallway for a month…) but they eventually gave me a refund and I installed an all natural wool carpet with 0 smell. It was expensive but worth it. Absolutely horrible experience with the Stainmaster.
We just bought our carpet from Lowes and their contractor over measured/bid our project by almost 200 square feet. The installer showed up with multiple addresses worth of material in the van so we could not tell how much waste/leftover material remained. Called the store to get partial refund on over estimated square feet and basically was told to piss off. Will never use them again.
Yeah we were never able to get ahold of anyone afterwards regarding our concern. Luckily ours wasn't costing us money like yall, but certainly with out experience there was 0 customer service or follow up
Im am about to do a job i know what im doing when it comes to removing and installing i just dont know how much to charge the person im doing the job for
I work in the industry... $6 per yard on wood subfloor $7 per yard on concrete for plush. Add a $1 per yard for berber. Add another $1 for pattern carpet. Stairs are $15 per stair as well as the $7 per yard. Hollywood stairs are $17 per stair. Upholstered/pie stairs are $20-$25 per stair... I hope this helps...
That would have ended up being silly for us. This was the cheapest carpet we wanted to settle for and silly enough it included install. If im already paying for install, I'm not gonna spend more to rent a kicker and do it myself, had a million other projects going on at the time. When we were doing so much else it only makes sense to hire out the job that typically has about the cheapest labor cost anyway, especially if you are already being charged for install in the price of carpet.
Oops, posted before finished. We just had them do our Smart Core Ultra laminate and it was very shoddy installation I could have done better and now they're doing our carpet come this Friday and I'm a little nervous to say the least. We didn't pick an extremely high-end carpet but yes it is replacing carpet that's been here for 22 years so although we should have spent another thousand or two probably with another company for install I guess we didn't know any better so here we go with our second install from Lowe's. To install carpet they have to be licensed and certified according to the company "Shaw Industries" The manufacturer of the "Smart Core Ultra" We'll see... Stay tuned for the final results. Ugh!! 🙏

Yup. For a small job and not something that needs to be perfect, the cheap carpet and cheap install I think was worth it. If I wanted nicer quality I would go elsewhere, but I got what I paid for and overall was happy with the job that was done for the money I paid. Just gotta keep expectations in line when going big box.
Oh and by the way you shouldn't leave globs of paint on the floor anyway. there should be pad underneath and if something goes through. It's not good. They do have a carpet at Lowe's now it's called lifeguard and stuff isn't supposed to come through carpet. It looks nice but it's going to need restretching probably in a year or two, the way it looks doesn't look like they did very good job power stretching but I'm not sure if they're doing it fast. You might see little shading but anyway I'm talking on a voice thing so if it this messed up I'm sorry but I just want to let you know they do sell carpet it's only like 20 cents more a square foot for the carpet that things can't soak through and the padding too and even Georgia you can get it right from Georgia this Georgia direct. go to them they'll deliver right to warehouse called express global. @@eternalharvestfarm I have a eyeball estimate of a bedroom at something like 14 by --maybe 16 feet. Several years ago, I was quoted around 800 dollars to carpet that room. @@stevehamman4465 I feel you bro. They pay good on lvp but carpet they're trying low ball carpet installers tho they do provide chaulking and tackstrips. It's almost the same as big box stores tbh.
Great video!
Carpet is an art and not like other forms of construction, theres nothing wrong with lowes carpet but there is something wrong with lowes and home depot installers, find a mechanic of the trade and pay him to do it correctly
$800 for one room!?
The room is huge. twice the size of my bedroom growing up. Cheapest option we could find in a acceptable carpet quality which was still a really cheap carpet. I explained it all
@@eternalharvestfarm I have a eyeball estimate of a bedroom at something like 14 by --maybe 16 feet. Several years ago, I was quoted around 800 dollars to carpet that room. I thought it was a bit much-especially for the quality of the carpet. I just went into Lowes today and selected a really good quality nylon carpet and was hit with a ball park of 1400 bucks. I don't mind the price - if it's not going to be a mind fuck getting it installed. I'm 55 years old and a divorced, single guy. I think, this should carpet should last the rest of my life. That's where I am at in my head now. I just buy shit that I think will last till I die. No matter what it is. Everything I buy now ( within reason) is meant to last the rest of my life - and I don't mind paying more for higher quality . Thanks for posting this video. I will not play fuck fuck with these installers. I will not hesitate to cancel the order altogether at the first hint they are going to waste my time.
You over paid
The cheapest acceptable quality price we could find. So, not really.
You didn't overpay, Philip is dumb its not his fault, he was born that way
