I just had a 2 queen colony, a queen excluder between them. I found the upper queen and removed her. I actually had 3 this season. Must have been the little top notches in the inner covers? Glad you got some sour wood.
Love your duct tape don’t leave home without it. Sorry about your Sourwood. I could have had a whole lot more Sourwood if I would have had more supers on. Dry here in Virginia made for a huge flow. Good luck with the rest of your season. Hope to see you at the Bee Expo again.
Hi from central Otago in southern New Zealand 👋 I have a question about something you mentioned which surprised me. You said you had to pay the landowner? Could you please explain about that, costs and how the arrangements work. In southern New Zealand farmers are very happy to have bee's in paddocks and while we keep those farmers supplied with free honey from their land, the only people who pay in NZ to have bee's are orchardists during flowering, especially in the north island for kiwifruit vines and central Otago has the majority of stone and pip fruit orchards, but I've never heard of a beekeeper paying to set up hives.
We pay our landowners a case of (12) 1lb jars as a thank you for allowing us the opportunity to have a chance to make Sourwood Honey. We usually charge for our pollination services for fruits/veggies.
@@Ashby_Farms_NC pollination work is popular here but I avoid it like the pox😂 too many " mistakes" with insecticide or toxic spray for my liking so I avoid it but it's similar here, we give farmers honey as a thanks. Not pollenating has a perk though 😂 while everyone else has their hives in the orchards I get the monopoly on river willows and poplar pollen and nectar😃👍
Im down to the last bit of your sourwood from last year, glad you got a bit. Put me down for 4 jars, my clients love it! Also do you sell buckets of your wildflower?
Going into the flow they were 7-8 frames of brood and packed. They all didn’t have to get fed which was great. It was all about timing, location, and weather this season.
I hate you had bad luck. Thats a lot of work. The yard I took up got honey some was just regular honey because I took them up early. I had talked to Bryan Fisher and he said the flow was nearly over at home and was going to start moving bee to the mountains so I followed suit as soon as I could. You being out of queens when I called caused me to call Bryan because I thought he still had the Cory Stevens breeder queen. So in a way you saved my season.
HELLO ASHBY I AM REACHING OUT TO U HOPING AND PRAYING U ARE SAFE FROM THE STORE I KNOW U ARE IN ASVILE AND IT WAS DESTROYED. MY PRAYERS ARE WITH YOU AND YOUR FAMILY. I DO NOT HAVE ANOTHER WAY TO REACH OUT SO I TRYED HERE ON YOUR LAST VEDIO.
We’re in Burlington and dodged the storm. We’ve been helping family in the mtns. All of our bees were home safe and month ago. Thanks for thinking of us!
@@Ashby_Farms_NC O BLESS YOUR HEART I AM CRYING I AM SO GLAD U ARE OK. DO U KNOW GREG ROGERS DO U KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT HIM. THANKNS FOR ANSWERING ME I WAS JUST SO VERY SCARED FOR U.
Hello Ashby…reaching out to you and others for advice. My neighbor sprayed for insects and successfully killed half my hives or 26 hives. Should I destroy all the brood comb on these hives? Any and all information is appreciated. Thank you in advance for your help.

We always have a few ourselves. Never mad to have any extra colony. Thanks for watching!
That frame with brood also has queen cells. Really glad you pulled it out of the ditch.
I’ll have to look back at that

Let me know when you’re headed this way! I don’t sell buckets btw
Does that make John a KEY guy in your business lol
He absolutely is!!!! I literally Couldn’t do it without him!!!
How many frames strong were those colonies? Did they backfill the briodnest instead of moving it upstairs?

Hi bud if you are looking for a other yard for next year. I have a land in Surry county but I do have bear's that run through my property.
