I'm from New Zealand and you don't know how difficult it is to obtain a license to breed Kakariki. Seeing all the different colours of them is mindblowing as well, as Kakariki means green and is the only colour you will find them in here.
And if you can't have an aviary , a large flight cage can hold 6 to 16 little finches. 1 larger pair is alright if their demeanor is peaceful. Size anywhere from 24" to 42" or 60" horizontal X nearly the same vertical . Its usually better to start small and gain experience
Thanks for the tips. I don’t have an aviary, but I watch your videos because I plan to in the future. And I am getting a bird soon and will use some of these tips with him and any companion I get for him :) (like having multiple feeding stations to give shy birds a chance to eat)
I have Blue Caps, Gouldians, and painted finches in an aviary together as well as a pair of bourke parrots. They all get along fine but moslty keep to themselves. We used to have diamond firetails too, but the gouldians were very aggressive towards them.
@@MrAviary my pleasure. Love the content you post, have switched from a very successful breeding season with the Gouldians to Star finches here now so 🤞🤞
I think having hookbills with any softbill is not a good idea even a chill Tiel will throw a bite that can damage a dove or Finch. In my aviary I have a 3 Red Rump Parrots, 10 male budgies 2 females, 8 Bourke's parrot, 1.1 Grasskeets, Scarlet Chested/Splendid Parrot & 2 Cockatiels both females. I have to watch the Red Rump males but enough space for their squabbles to end. Budgie males are good in a community. But budgie females can be more aggro & they have a harder bite bc they carve into trees to make nests in the wild.
In a 2x1x2 meters aviary, could you house 4 male budgies with 2 female zebra finches, all of whom are under 1 year old at the time of entering the aviary for the first time? This is a plan that I have but I’m always hesitating whether the finches would be in danger

I have lovebirs and parakeets, but I bought a different cage and put it together so they know each other for like about 5 months and now they love each other, but first lovebirds were trying to kill the parakeets.
I'm also a Kiwi. Some years ago I had aviaries with several species of finches. I found that you could normally only keep one pair of Cuban finches per aviary. As the males are very territorial toward other Cuban males. Likewise the little black finch from Brazil, I can't just remember the name of them. They were very secretive and usually nested near the ground. Both the Cuban finches were OK with other species, but wouldn't tolerate others of their own kind. Nice video Mr Aviary, well done.

Ik vraag me af of ik hun ook in de voliere kan houden aleen wel als ik erbij ben dus dat ze gewoon voor 1 of 2 uur buiten kunnen zijn.
At the age of 1 they are ready to breed. There are many reasons why they don't breed. Do you know for sure you have a pair? Is it the right environment? Are they in breeding condition and many more.
@@MrAviaryIt could be that, they are less than year old, I have'nt done the DNA yet. My other finches in same aviary do breed like long tail finches / Gouldian finch.

I do not recommend keeping Budgies with any finches at all. Even in a large space it is still risky and female budgies are also very aggressive. Budgies also have a very different diet from finches and need pellets and vegetables. The seed we feed finches is has very high fat content and is unhealthy for a budgies digestive system if used as the base diet. Seed for budgies can only be as treats or foraging. Otherwise if seed is given to a Budgie as a diet base, It is likely to cause Fatty liver disease and other health issues including obesity.
Every bird needs more variety than a seed-only diet, I always try mimic nature as much as possible and a bit weary of pellets. Indeed budgies can be very dominant.
I have society and zebra's in my aviary. Both of these birds have been a great learning tool.

Depends on the size of your aviary
I wouldn't say pigeons dont have a dominant nature. Rock doves (city pigeons) shouldn't be kept with doves or finches. They are very territorial and temperamental.
True
Thank you. I have a question: are female finches (kept without males ) also dominant towards other finches as of star finches?
Yes, less because they don't have to defend a nest but it can also be the best sleeping space or first to eat. This depends on the species

I wouldn't put the love birds together with the finches or the diamond doves.
There is a bird that appears in minute 3 of the video (blue with green wings and tail) what is its name? I'm in Brazil
It's called the three-color parrotfinch also sometimes Forbes parrotfinch
I have heard that adult quails injure finch chicks as they land on the floor. Your experience please.
There is always a possibility but I have never seen it in my aviary. It also depends on the size. The chance is bigger in smaller cages.
You suggest keeping canaries with other shy birds. Which would be suitable?
a lot of the easier birds will do, like star finches, society finches, long-tailed finches also work to name a few.
