I really enjoy witnessing you create. You’re obviously enjoying yourself and are so open to unexpected possibilities. I have learned so much from your videos. I have a nice varied collection of Stencil Girl stencils and others, and you have made me feel much more confident and bolder in varying my use of them. Thank you!
Lovely to get reacquainted with your videos, Mary Beth. I had taken a breather with all the folks I used to watch just to change lanes and get into some different angles to making art. Now I'm finding what you're doing fits into the direction I find myself in now. Funny how that works! I recently, like you, cut way back on trying to pick up loads of stuff from other artists so I can just put down what comes naturally to me and make a more authentic creation. It probably goes in cycles, learn, absorb, then step back and integrate and try new things. I have loads of time to myself so I'll probably never let go of TH-cam entirely! It's just too much fun.
Mary Beth, thank you so much for sharing your wellness journaling process. I always learn something from you! I use social media as a tool for learning and connecting with other creatives. I have discovered many artists that I love through Instagram and Facebook lately. I make a conscious effort to not get sucked into the negativity and drama that is so prevalent on much of social media these days. It’s all about the art and music for me!
You’re always inspiring to me. I always glean useful tidbits from you. Great use of sanding block for erasing extra tissue paper. I do not use social media at all. When I feel uninspired I watch my favorite media artists on TH-cam However because of the online courses I’m involved not so much of that anymore. You are one that I find inspirational. Tooo much variety & stimulation overloads the mind & stifles individualistic creativity. Thank you for being you❣️
Please continue to encourage us to "Use Your Stuff! As much as i love sifting through stashes, that quickly mutates into hoarding, so thank you thank you. I really appreciated DayTripping class. July 2024 - I did my first "folder journal" (what I'm referring to them as) from visit to Santa FeFolk Art Market. Mid August and I am pushing myself to August journal - preciousness pulling at me🤣. Thank you for your journal videos - always inspiring
I think the important thing is that you’re evaluating what you get out of social media and adjusting accordingly. I don’t think there’s one answer about how much and what kind suits everyone, because we are all having different experiences. Social media has given me access to mixed media art and taught me how to it myself at home and this has changed me profoundly. I’ve been following all this for a couple of years now though, and my interests have developed, my tastes are more selective. I’ve started unfollowing people and consciously limiting the amount of time I spend on it. I love your work and have learned a lot from you, Mary Beth. Thank you!
I enjoy watching you work on your pieces. One day you did a collage with washi tape. I thought that was so cool. I did one for my facebook groups and they loved it. It inspired so many other people. So, thanks, that was fun. I have so much washi tape that I wasn't using. I was thrilled to use some. However, I took a little piece off of so many rolls and filled the page and still didn't make a dent in the tape! 🙃Thanks for another fun video. Stay well. 🌼
I would not like it (you to pull away). During isolated living conditions & when it was 2020, I discovered you, Tim holtz, Dina wakley, Dylan reaveley and felt like I had company. Plus, a big plus, was learning new techniques from each of you. In turn, it helped me find my own style through all the videos. I still look so forward to seeing all your vids.
Hi Mary Beth! I love your videos and am so thankful you do what you do sharing your knowledge/ experience with us. You are such a sweetheart. You have inspired me so many times and I’m now a stencil “collector”. Today I was working on an art project listening to your video. I also enjoy the “virtual” company while arting around. Regarding the social media question, I enjoy TH-cam videos for mixed media techniques & tutorials. I pop over to instagram sometimes to see these there as well. They both can suck me in if I’m not careful. I don’t have that much free time and I want to spend more time making art and less time watching people make art but I definitely like the inspiration it provides. I work full time in IT and arting is my therapy/ hobby/ joy. BTW, I’ll be in St. Louis in Oct. for a work conference. I plan to visit the art store you mentioned when I’m there. So excited to see St. Louis. You take care of yourself. Sending good vibes your way. 💫
Mary Beth you are a gem! I've been following you for years as I take my mixed-media journey. I was a part of stencil club on and off for years and I have about 500 stencil girls stencils! I absolutely love your style, your great tips and tricks and that lovely southern voice is a soothing presence in my practice! Thanks for being YOU!!
Thanks for another look into your wellness journal, I so enjoy watching you create in it! You have inspired me to create my own (I just put together my second one). It’s such a great practice!! I have pulled way back from social media, and I completely agree about Instagram! ❤
Great collage...especially how those squares matched up! But I was thinking about this same thing the other day. That I was tired of the constant exposure to so many other artists and so many different styles. And that I actually had my own style, and I should just go develop it. I probably won't ever leave social media but I might rely less on it in the future. Too much is definitely not healthy and can be a barrier to real progress.
Aloha Mary Beth! I am a quiet follower. However, I thought I would pop on here today to tell you how much I enjoy your company while I sit at my art table! Today, I happen to be doing what you are doing! I'm working on a couple of personal journals of mine. I love what you talk about, and your voice is very appealing to listen to, so thank you for keeping me company! I do agree. It is a crazy world and can only take so much of it. 🤯I do, however, love watching my youtube "art friends", as I call them, as they bring me much comfort and inspiration. I live alone, so it's nice to have another human beings' voice that might even teach me something I don't already know! Thank you for your lovely video today. I love how you softened the page with your baby wipe. There you go! Something I never thought to do!😅 Until next time, take care now, lovely lady!🌺🌈🙋♀️
MaryBeth, thank you for the kind words. And, yes, it is a nice bit of synchronicity that the colors worked for a piece you had in progress. BTW this was from the "Hands" swap and some of that tissue was used on that project.
Media interest is mostly about novelty. A lot of people are doing the same stuff. Not as much fun. I am doing more classes with people who do things that are like but are not what I typically do. More learning.
I am very new to using stencils and learned from you today that Swap participants include extra things in their swaps. This wasy first Swap and didn't do that. I find myself pulling back from "watching" art I need to do,but watch for ideas as I am new ro art journaling. Rambling on, apologies
The extras aren't required for the swaps so don't feel bad if you don't include any. The reason I included it was that i was making a bunch of prints on my gel plate not sure which ones I'd use on the project (it was for the recent "Hands" swap). After I was done with the project I had several partial sheets that didn't get used so some I kept and some bits I sent on to MaryBeth. I'm sure your partner appreciated your swap. I know I always love to see how others interpret the prompt and get inspiration from everything I receive!

I loved watching and listening and learning 😍🙏🏼Thank you so much. And thank you for the Distress Spritz introduction 😘

Thanks for commenting. It makes me smile that you were working in your journal while listening to me :)
Lovely watching you work .. thankyou for all the tips and inspiration
Thanks so much.

Could you please tell us the name of the stencils you used? I really love those tissue pieces!
@@jinxengstrom9850 let me see I can figure it out. But pretty sure all of them were club stencils from the last 12 months or so.
you could use puzzle pieces for collage, so an incomplete puzzle would be handy
you can get the wet strength tissue at Joggles.

Where do you get those small file folders? They look like they would be so fun to work with!
They are cut down from a legal size.
@@mbshaw707 Thanks, I'll get some legal files and give it a try!!
@@justd4377she did an earlier video showing how to trim them down.
@@TheCommanda13 Thanks, I will try to find it!
