The decision to reveal her identity makes her much more powerful in the movie. She is not just a victim. She's a young girl with her own beliefs, ideas and courage. It was so rewarding to see her courage shine in her eyes.
Such a great movie, Raw and intense to say the least! Hats off to Ranjit, who stood so fiercely beside her daughter. He is raising a strong and powerful lady, with all the right values. I wish India gets more fathers n mothers like this, who stands beside their daughters through every thick and thin.
Cried so much, was praying so hard that they would win. My heart ached, such a lovely humble man. So supportive of his daughter. You could tell it was taking its toll on him. Godbless them all❤🙏🏼
i hope the family will benefit alsoooooo, Godbless the family! The father is so brave he’s so kind i can feel the pain in his eyes, i also cry for him the guilt in his heart and the mother is also strong, 😭 i am watching right now, me as a mother i feel so angry! but im so proud for the father and mother they handled the situation calmly ❤️ May the God bless ypur family!
I don't think there is a need to be happy or to celebrate or to be proud of being an indian like all the people are doing here. Congratulations to everybody who worked on this documentary that their work is recognised and who did their part to raise such issues and spread awareness. Else there is absolutely nothing "to be proud of".
We have to be proud of the people taking action. This is the right way forward. These young women fighting back is a moment we should celebrate. What don’t you understand about the sentiment?
Given that this is an Oscar nominated documentary on Netflix the producers will be reaping the financial rewards. I'm hoping the family benefited financially as well given that it was their lives on screen.
Everyone is concerned about the nominations and awards. I want to know where the family is, are they doing okay emotionally and financially? I really hope so
My praises to the people behind the making of this documentary. You know what they all say, fathers are willing to sacrifice a lot for their own kids. May justice prevail in uncertain circumstances.
This film is great. It gives me so much anger watching how the community treated Ranjits family and blamed the girl when she was a victim. The solution the came up with to resolve this issue was outrageous. It was crazy to see an elderly woman from the community to speak of the young girl and discriminate that poor girl when what she really needed was support and understanding. I couldnt help it but that is one community that i cannot see any human being on earth needs. Its toxic.
I understand this is a documentary but this is what i love. Stories of real ppl Instead u get masala crap that is so disconnected from how ppl actually live. Not dissing bollywood or the tv shows in India....Pakistan is exactly the same with their films and dramas. They should learn from south korean and Iranian filmmakers.
The victim has a clearer vission of what is good or bad compared to adult who says "she should marry 1 of the boys" ,..WTF.. I couldnt stand the victim blaming and the ignorance of the people (mostly) in this community This is the only docu in netflix that i couldnt dare to finish watching...this broke my heart 😢
It is sad to know that there are so many girls like her, suffering, and not getting the same help this family did. I wish there was some way to help every one of those innocent young girls !

A must watch movie to expose the evil of the Indian Society. The concerns of safety of women and girls is pathetic in country. Documentaries like these (eg., slumdog millionaire) defames India on international platforms and it's necessary to awaken the authorities and our hypocrite society to open it's eyes and see it's dark truth and do something about it.
It sure shows what Indian culture is like....along with the humanity in India....I've heard about these issues in India for years but the ideas they come up with to resolve it are really bizzar....
The change needs to be in their belief. They arent like western countries with the loose religions and marriages. Shame to the family which is guided by religious beliefs is what drives them to make choices ppl in most countries would be appalled at. Like to be married to ur rapist. Hell no in most countries but most countries dont view shame the same way. It's way more drastic to south asian ppl. Similar to asians but not that deep shame that south asians feel. It can only change if they dont believe in their religions as much and their family structure loose like western culture. Of course rape and rape that men do to men is kept much under carpet in say north america. I've seen horrific docs about north american serial killers and that jeffrey dahmer guy takes the cake as to a typical white man in north america. The most unsuspecting killer and rapist.
So sad how these villagers think the men and the women, when they were being interviewed OMG . The responses ,I just couldn’t I just wanted to slap my T. V screen. Still blaming the girl the way she was dress, the way the girls walk, talk, lipsticks they put on guys will be naughty if girls make them! Oh people like that think this way should not have children at all!! So inhumane I’m sorry. But yea. I hope they help this family get out of there and start a new life.
wow what logic villagers believe in disgusting thing so it has to be islamic thing not that any hindu from the old times had these same beliefs right get outta your own based victim mind and stop blaming old time for you own people views
I hope this movie wins Oscar. People need to speak out against rape. Women have to fight for women no one else will. Kudos to woman’s right group for fighting this case
Great work these social issues neglected by the society in rural areas of India generally rulled by powerful people getting shed of politician's no government body can take action against them for poor people getting justice is nearly impossible due to lack of money & power
The attitude of the people around outlines the deep rooted problems in Indian society. One case resolved but there will be thousands of other cases of similar nature which would have been resolved in the same way as suggested by villagers. Deep deep rooted problems.
This documentary broke my heart! Is does not matter if it was nominated for an Oscar, the reality is that this happens many many times in India. Gang rape or any type of rape should be take seriously and make the responsible pay at least with life in prison or dead. I can’t understand how come some men can violently rape a woman, treat a woman like does not worth anything when this men are here because of a woman. Women should be treated with respect. The problem here is educación. There so much ignorance in this world. This girl, her father, her family are so brave. God bless them and protect them always.
Although the documentary claims that the lives of those involved would be safe. How does it plan to achieve it? The village is clearly agitated. The constable is named as useless. Don’t you think that journalism should be more responsible for human lives than worrying about getting an award for an annual circus?
Just watched this. Kiran, you are my hero!!! You and your family are changing the world and leaving it a better place than you found it. Every girl on the planet deserves to have your sense of intelligence, bravery and unshakable self worth!!! Your direct environment might not, but the rest of the world is applauding you and other girls who demand justice for themselves. Bless you, your wonderful parents, the NGO who helped you and the makers of this documentary.
This documentary infuriated me! It has been a long time since something has moved me so. I just wanted to grab Kiran and hug her and tell her she is a warrior and she is stronger than I’ll think she’ll ever know! She is a heroine! Her parents love her and always did the right thing. They listened to their hearts admist adversity. This is what selfless looks like! Kiran you are so inspiring and baby girl you are not broken. The people in your village are eons behind you and your family. From Michigan USA - we love you!
