This comment goes out to Lon & Epos Vox. Believe it or not, the videos you made about this product helped my family during a tough time. We had a family member pass away recently and we needed a way to broadcast the funeral service on zoom (on a budget) because the service had to have a limited amount of people due to COVID restrictions. This Capture card was on amazon prime for a reasonable price and I already had a camera that worked with HDMI out & a tripod. I ordered a microphone that hooked up to my laptop and I was good to go. You wouldn't believe how thankful my family members were when they were able to watch the funeral service live and be with us digitally through this tough time. Please know that youtubers like may not have Please know that youtubers like you may not have millions of subscribers but you make a big difference. Thanks to the both of you!

Amazing that it's instantly seen as a webcam for in video meeting apps. No need for OBS or camera-specific software to enable virtual cam plugins, etc. Will be a perfect solution to recycle older cameras as easy setup webcams. Thx for sharing!

Definitely considering one of these. Also really nice to see UVC drivers on these, because that allows them to just be read as a webcam by almost any device with support for UVC drivers. I would honestly stick to my Elgato for game capture, but for a "cam link" alternative, this is fantastic.

I use one of those devices for capturing HDMI for video game streaming. They're really good for the job. The colors were perfect, I was getting 1080P or 720 depending on what I was capturing, and very little loss in quality from MJPEG. If you're just streaming games and not trying to take ultra high def 4K videos for uploads, they'll definitely do the job.

Picked one up last month for £5.99 delivered (around $8 US). Been using it to digitise S-VHS tapes and Laserdiscs at 720p/60 using an s-video to HDMI convertor plugged into it, works great and captures look excellent. As an aside, I experimented and was able to capture Netflix and Amazon Prime from a Roku as it seems these devices just ignore HDCP.

Will these work for connecting to a Vizio tv. Recently, the Google Duo app went live for Android TV. I have tried connecting an older model usb webcam and a newer webcam to the usb ports of 2 of my Vizio TVs and they are not connecting but works great on both my computers. I'm not sure if its a software issue with Duo or a usb port issue from Vizio in regards to webcams. Wondering if the HDMI solution is my best bet.

I didn't check the comments so this may have already been mentioned. ETA Prime has a video where he used one of these capture devices to turn just about any Android device, (including the Fire tablets) into a monitor for the Raspberry Pi. That's huge. Raspberry Pi touchscreen monitors are often not so great, expensive and don't have a battery built in. I'm only adding this because people do tend to watch Lon's videos long after they are posted. It's been out for awhile. I suspected that all of these devices on Amazon were pretty much the same. Now I know for sure. My 10" Galaxy Tab S2 with keyboard case is about to become a monitor.

@@seanchem1 I know that it's a year or so later, and you almost certainly don't need the help any more (LOL), but from the description you typed, it sounds like you had everything connected backwards. The video signal should be coming OUT of the Surface tablet (using whatever adapter is necessary to convert to HDMI), connecting into the capture device, which should then be plugged INTO the USB on your desktop PC. Remember, the capture device is an INPUT device, meaning that it should be plugged INTO whatever computer that you want to receive a video signal on.

Got one of these cheap capture cards myself. I've found a lot of use for them, though they do have their own limitations and quirks.

One thing worth noting is that these capture sticks are useless if you want to capture audio over HDMI (think game consoles, tablets, phones etc) because all of these have a hardware design issue that swaps the stereo audio channels every second, so the chinese just did a nasty "hotfix"/kludge and made the sticks *only* support 96KHz Mono (!) audio, even though the chip inside could do 48KHz Stereo. So yeah, for cameras these are damn near perfect, for anything involving audio they're useless :/

Imo if you need to repurpose some camera as a web cam it's much more efficient to use your phone with droidcam or similar programs

not just that but if you ever left your phone camera on for a while the phone will get superhot after just 10 mins. They're just not designed to be running that long and I remember on my gfs android phone the charger couldn't charge it faster than it would discharge lol

@@KOSAMAGAMES I use an old Android phone to monitor my 3d printer, it runs more or less 24/7/365. Occasionally it does turn off, but the phone is also at least 5 years old and the battery is likely on its last leg. I might have to restart the phone once a week at best, generally less.
The phone is so old it has a removable battery, and my guess is if I replaced the battery it wouldnt turn off at all. Im not going to replace the battery, as I said it is at least 5 years old and the battery probably dosnt cost much less than a wyze camera. I guess my point is this, I feel comfortable monitoring my 3d printer with a old phone, so I wouldnt hesitate to use it as a webcam.
A few pointers for anyone wanting to do something similar:
1)Disable/uninstall as many apps as possible so nothing else is running in the background
2)Turn off unnecessary services, like location, bluetooth, etc.
3)Turn the screen brightness down as far as possible
4)This one is very counter intuitive, but dont use a fast charger. It will just heat the device up, and a normal charger is more than enough.
I have been using the phone like this for close to a year now, and have no plans on replacing it till it completely breaks. When it does, I will just dig out another old phone and do the same.

One point to note here is, if the old camera doesn't feeds out videos through its HDMI, then these capture cards won't work. It didn't work for my Nikon Coolpix 600. I would appreciate if someone can prove me wrong.
