+Donna Yeubanks Wow, I wonder that was a fabulous time! I wish I could live the 60s, no doubt a Golden Era! Can't stop listening to that kind of music and it's good to know you were right there. Greetings from Brazil!
One of the best Rock Bands of all the time !!! They were Woodstock simbol and this video took place in the best Rock Festival of all the time Monterey Pop Festival 1967 ! I’m 62 years old and if only I were 18 or 19 years at this time !!! I was went crazy with these bands !!!
I was there! They were awesome. I saw them so many times...and The Butterfield Blues Band, and Janis, and PG&E... That was a golden age. We don't know what we've got 'til it's gone...
Blind Owl looks like a kid that used to let me copy off his homework when I was in 9th grade! That haircut and those glasses wouldn't let a person see his true persona as a FANTASTIC Blues Guitarsman. Kind of like "Clark Kent" of Superman fame. What a fantastic group of guys. Canned Heat was one of the truly great bands with NO glitz or glammer. They just went on stage and "Got It Done"!!
Is that white tape on the right of his glasses frame? Like he's gone through the wrong door and ended up on stage, but it turns out he's able to play slide guitar even though he'd never tried it before.
I'm glad I'm a old man that raised my two boys listening to real music my oldest teaches music and the youngest builds choppers long live the sixties and seventies
Hes so young here. Eventually he'd ditch the glasses and play practically blind. It's crazy how much times have changed when it comes to glasses and style. My dad, who's born in '46 always said when u were a kid growing up in the 50s and 60s, if u wore glasses u really got made fun of and were a nerd. Nowadays ppl use glasses as a fashion piece let alone for seeing.
What an amazing band! I think a lot about music from the 60s and music today. This band would never make it today even though they are loaded with talent. Nowadays--music isn't what it used to be.
Watching this clip brings me so much joy. Everybody looks like they're just having the most beautiful time and the band is really cooking! I was born in the wrong era.
One of the great forgotten bands of the time! I saw them at the Texas International Pop Festival two weeks after they played at Woodstock - just great!
That sounds incredible man!! As a 32 year old man, i cannot even begin to imagine how peoples mindset were back then. I bet it was beautiful :). Considering i'm from Norway, i doubt i would've got to see them anyway :). But, ahh...Dreams.
Dreams are good! It was great back then, everyone seemed so, well, less pissed off and hostile than they seem today. At least the youth who showed up at these festivals and concerts. I got to see Jimi, the Doors, Stones, Led Zep several times, Steppenwolf, a bunch more.
That's so cool :). Steppenwolf was my fathers favorite band, he practically shoved the "For ladies only" and "7" records down my throat as a kid. Snowblind friend (a cover, i know) remains as my favorite song of all time. I would give my left arm to live your memories for a day :). I would like nothing more than to sit down with you, smoke a joint and listen to your stories of those days :).
Glad to hear that, green. I have mixed feelings about these really old bands going back on tour. Not sure why exactly but good to hear that they were enjoyable.
What a crazy time in the USA! great music, great concert, society, I don't know, but I would have liked to see these concerts in person. (with a few glasses of red wine ....). In France we had nothing in the 60's ....
I discovered Canned Heat about 2 weeks ago, searching bands from this great period of music. I made many researchs about them and now I can say I'm in love in the Boogie Blues!!!
Larry Taylor. That guy cooked. you cant get music like that now. My 1st concert was Its a beautiful day and Canned Heat Dallas 1970. Was 15 yrs old. Now 61 yrs
Some amazing bass work by Larry Taylor here. Before joining Canned Heat, Larry was a session bassist on The Monkees' first and second albums (including "Last Train to Clarksville"); listen to his lines on "Tomorrow's Gonna Be Another Day".
Can't beat Canned Heat. Splendid band and splendid era. Decent audience with beautiful girls who don't freak out but smile and enjoy, and band members who look like college students. Those were the days. California dreaming.
My God! Look how young Blind Owl is here (24yo). Hard to believe this was 47 years ago. Were we ever really that young? RIP Blind Owl & Bob The Bear...
chiron8839 If you knew them then you would have known that Blind Owl didn't die of Heroin Overdose. He used too many Seconal and Coroners report wouldn't say if it was suicide or death by accidental overdose. Blind Owl wasn't a big Heroin user and none was found at his death scene (Camper/Van). What a sad topic of discussion. We should be celebrating his Life and Talent...
Alan was raised just up the hill from me. And his folks used to let the local kids of choice hang out in the basement on weekend nights during high school. A nice evolved family. I met his brother Dave in Jr High Chess Club.

I was in junior high school when Monterey Pop "happened". I only live about 40 miles away and even though I was too young to attend it was still a BIG DEAL for us in coastal Central California. A local TV station teamed up with a local FM station and did nightly showing so we could watch it on TV and sync up our stereos. Show was simulcast at midnight and between local TV and our local favorite Rock Station on Stereo it was frigging GREAT. Just us kids rocking out at midnight. It still feels like I was there! If only I had been 6-8 years older...
That drummer who's going VERY wild looks like a C.P.A.....god how I love Canned Heat! Sure wish they put out more music! They didn't realize they would not "live to comb grey hair."
Haven't seen this in years........ I am the fetus inside the blond girl at the end with bare feet tapping and rocking out............my mom Donna Yeubanks.
Everyone should experience this awesome Band at least once in their life. And not the commercials on tv's butcher job. Let's work together, come on now people. Let's educate our younger generations to these great musicians.
***** What Pennebaker was talking about was that if you mix film stock, fast and slow speed stock as required then the look of the film is going to change from shot to shot. Seeing as you are going to have to shoot with fast stock at night under tungsten light, you might as well use fast stock for everything. It's got nothing to do with it being a hippie-era film as there were definite professionals involved in the making of it. People who think that you shot a documentary on location using video equipment in 1967 are just ignorant. Colour video equipment weighed an absolute ton, was very very expensive and you just would not use it outside of a studio.
What a great band, and what incredible ambassadors for The Blues. I once read that, when Son House was rediscovered, it was Al Wilson who had to relearn Son how he once played the guitar. I also read that Bob lost thousands of irreplaceable Blues 78s during an earthquake at his home in Northern California.
I lived with Henry Henry Vestine in1984 in Corvallis Oregon . I wish these videos were available to watch at that time . he told me stories but He would have loved seeing this.

Larry Taylor on bass... killing it
Larry "The Mole" Taylor. So many musicians after him copied his style or "inspired" them, whichever way you look at it.
I just found out that he died 5 years ago, that made me sad. He was an excellent basis and very underappreciated
he’s probably the best musician besides Alan. listen to “time was”. very few bassist could hold it down like larry.
He is in my top 3 favorite bass player with Jaco Pastorius and Donald "duck" Dunn
Sad, Blind Owl was one of the best blues guitarists I ever heard and he's almost unknown today
hes pretty well known
Everyone seems to remember him for signing On the Road Again and his harp playing.
What happened? Did he hit a tree?
Stumbling Colossus ..... he died dude, shame what a great musician!
@@jonathanharootunian297 Oh he died dude? I thought he was a blind owl that hit a tree. Thanks dude.

Larry Taylor is a fuckin BEAST on bass man! Wish music today still had that groove.
He plays with tom waits now
Larry Taylor's brother Mel Taylor played drums for the Ventures.
The bass and slide guitar are especially good here
PsychedelicFerret One of the best
He is such a brilliant bass player...
Canned Heat - Vintage is one of my all time favs. I got it very early on in my vinyl collecting.
I was just 18, fresh from high school graduation and I was there.

Almost 50 years ago and still sounds great. They were so young back then what a tragic loss Alan Wilson was to the music world. Great film.

at around 2:29- "this is how one walks a bass line..."
From what I have read, the most stable member of the band and also the rock-like centre of it. Same with the bass player in Santana at Woodstock
"The Mole" 😂
