Thank you again for another excellent review. Please keep up the good work, really appreciate how you take the time to checkout the sprues and the finished miniatures with plenty of close up shots and comparisons to other miniatures. Also appreciate the kitbashing/modding examples with other manufacturers to give us an idea of the possible combinations. The Arab Berber infantry does look a bit "chunkier' than the Wargames Atlantic Afghan warrior, but your comment about time periods is a good point to keep in mind. That Berber guy looks like he is (appropriately for the time period) wearing multiple layers of mail and cloth/linens to help provide more protection and cushion from the weapons of the time period. His role is to be in there fighting hand to hand, and he is dressed for it. Wheras that Afghan warrior is wearing less layers because he is in the time of gunpowder weapons and no amount of chainmail is going to stop those musket shots. More likely to skirmish, charge, and dissapear into the rocky terrain and hills and then ambush again.
That's what I like to see! It's what I call *depth of detail* On a plastic sprue, it's important to have enough depth on the grooves and lands of the model. It's something GW has been messing up lately. You'll find a CAD sculpt hurried into a steel mold, misses the depth of detail you might expect. This leads to mudding and blurry detail once any paint goes on. Example: The Sister Hospitaller, Blackstone Beastmen, barely any depth to the fine detail, it has to be painted on.
These would work really well as infantry in Dune RPG, with a little a bit of work of course, or just do Skittarii properly as opposed to GW's half-hearted vision/ version of them. This looks to be incredibly versatile kit, will pick it up if I get the chance (chance, being the operative word here!). Edited.
Pretty good review. Do you perhaps have a video where some of them are standing beside some Warhammer Fantasy miniatures? I have an idea for a Mordheim warband and I'd like to know how tall these guys are.
I miss my Gripping Beast plastics. Years ago someone dumped PILES of boxes into a local stores consignment. I picked up a fair amount and gave tons of them away. Damn my generosity sometimes!
Not yet as I'm still in Japan, and the closest spot that even sells GW kits is a couple hours away by train. There used to be a great little cave- like place underneath a staircase at a local supermarket that carried GW stock, but they closed during the pandemic I was told.
Essentialĺy I like these. Disappointed there was no spear option. Kit bashed on some Gripping Beast hands with spears. Found the Black Guard Box better becaue of the spears. Justt done secoond Berber Infantry using spare Black Guard spear arms and the round shield from the Victrix Normans using the LBM Morrocan designs. Look ggod.
How did you paint them, or how are you planning on painting them? I've had these guys sitting in front of me and have been stuck moving forward with appropriate colors.
Love the size difference as now you have light vs heavy infantry!!!!

Hey, great review. I bought a box set last week. They look like a very versatile box.

Yeah, that's no fun. It's an issue that pops up with a lot of 3D printed stuff as well- some artists need to really dig those details into the models.
Afaik there is a 2md box for those berbers, that comes with spears instead of bows and also command options.
Yup, that would be the Black Guard.
this is really cool

Hmm how do these scale to different minis? 🤔 ( Frostgrave / Mesbg / WFB )
Very cool!!!! Fireforge!!!! Fireforge!!!! Fireforge!!!! Yeeessss 🎉🎉
Love Fireforge, except for their choice to sculpt some weirdly short shield arms. Usually, you don't notice it behind the shields, but ... yeah
I think the command for these guys is in the Black Guard box, since that one has a lot of command bits.

Kinda makes me wish I hadn’t purchased three boxes of the Gripping Beast plastics recently.

I'm curious if the cannon fodder arms fit those bodies or if the heads fit the Death Fields range from WGA well.
or... or! THE DAMNED!
Hadn't even thought of using some of these parts to make some Tallarn. Good idea!
Did you pick up any of the new Seraphon Lizardmen?
Those kroxigors are pretty sweet! 👍

Nice minis

I saw Victrix is doing Crusade Muslims now.
