    Nick is one of the best guys in car audio. ALWAYS will answer you questions.....with HIS answer which 99% of the time leaves you laughing!
    What a nice truck too!
    As always, thanks Dean!

      Agreed. Nick has been a pillar in car audio SQ competition and judging since the late 80's...particularly in IASCA, but other orgs as well.
      His 1998 VW New Beetle with the 10" Focal Utopia 27WX subwoofer in the top center of the dash as well as 6.5" Focal Utopia midwoofers up there, too for main Left & Right stage was consistently in the Top 5 in IASCA.
      There was a write up for the Beetle in Mobile Electronics magazine's Feb/March 2003 issue which you can find archived on the Car Audio Junkies (C.A.J.) forums. To see and read about it Search for "Car Audio Junkies Nick Wingate Jr. - 1998 Volkswagen Beetle - 2003 ME".
      His old green Mitsubishi that he started his SQ quest in was no slouch, either...and his current truck has won several trophies over the past few years as well.
      A true genial, Good Ole Texas Boy, who appreciates his bourbon. 😊

    That was an amazing setup. Thanks for introducing some of us to products that we may not have seen or heard of before. I think that line of components is what I’ve been looking for, now I just need the budget. 😂

      I second that. That playlist was sweet.

    I was suprised to Soundstream in the background! They were premiere 30+ yrs ago...

      Well, they are not quite the "premier" company and products of the past.
      New owners pretty much just purchased the rights to use the name & branding along with limited I.P. from the original company. AFAIK, their current line of products are 95% generic "rebadged" products from overseas.
      Buy their original "old school" amps in as good of condition as you can find them and then have Gordon Taylor (The Amp Doctor) in the U.K. recap and mod them and they'll be one of the best amplifiers you can own.

      @bbfoto7248 It was just a moment of nostalgia for me... I have RF equipment now and am looking to upgrade to Mosconi in my next vehicle. Thanx for the info though if I ever start to feel retro again!

    Differential rear fill seems to be catching on

    what does "3db down point" mean when he was reffering to the sub enclosure?

    • @gonzoe123
      @gonzoe123 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It is a tuning frequency

    • @satyavratadas1640
      @satyavratadas1640 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      He's referring to the frequency curve of the the enclosure, at 34hz it starts to roll off -3db at that particular frequency. He basically saying the box was tuned to play linear in volume till 34hzwhere it starts to drop off.

    • @Bobby12many
      @Bobby12many 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      To help visualize this; frequency response graphs typically use decibels (db) on their Y-axis and frequency (hz) as X-axis. When he says "3db down @ 34hz" he is essentially saying that the output of the subs decreases by 3db when playing down to 34hz. A 3db variance is generally considered a pretty "flat" response, especially for low frequency systems.

    • @jacksondavid8758
      @jacksondavid8758 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Bobby12many Copy that, just never heard that term before. So when reading stats on say, a Gately enclosure, and it state a bandwidth of 26-68 hz , is the bandwidth the numerical representation of the curve at its upper and lower " 3 db down" point?

    • @Bobby12many
      @Bobby12many 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@jacksondavid8758 the bandwidth is simply the range of frequencies that a enclosure/speaker is designed to reproduce , it does not necessarily capture the "flatness" within that range. This gets a bit nuanced, especially with a ported (aka vented) enclosure that is designed around a specific tuning frequency. In most all cases, the speaker will be most efficient at that tuning frequency and thus, have a higher output (up dbs) at and around that frequency.

    I don't like the "sound stage" up front. That's not the best sound in my opinion. I like to be surrounded. Nice video and lets get these on a Christmas give away!
