Military fly overs are actually part of the Department of Defense recruitment budget. Inspires patriotism and inspires young people to join the military. It really is emotional.
As others have said, the flyovers are regarded by the Air Force primarily as training exercises for the pilots ... a lot of planning and precision goes into every execution.
National Anthem at ALL sporting events I've been to; not just professional and college, but even Little League children's and youth baseball, football, everything.
The fly overs are so much more than just a show of strength. They are golden opportunities for training/practice runs that these pilots would not normally have in peace time. Our city municipal airport is used by Beale Air Force Base here in California for training runs. They fly up from Beale, do a touch down and turn around here and head back down South to home. I live right in the flight path and I tell ya, when those heavy military choppers come over, the walls of the house literally breath in and out with the movement of air from their blades. I have seen all sorts of different crafts from F-16's to B-2 and even Osprey come over the house. It is always a treat when the big birds fly!
Good to know they are training over football fans, LOL. Instead of us where we non-sports fans hang out. Everyone is going to realize what horrible idea this is some day, probably when they crash into 100k people.
@@donnabert Most of the flight is over the rest of us that are not at the game. So the odds of something going wrong the hitting stadium compared to the total flight time is quite small.
@@donnabert They're already very well trained. It's more just they need to keep up flight hours through the year in order to be able to keep flying. It's not like they're sending guys over that have never flown before.
@@donnabertYes they definitely put beginners in the planes and fly laps upon laps over the sports fans, doing difficult maneuvers the whole damn time. It’s very obvious you’re not a sports fan.
I usually go to at least one NFL game per year and I've experienced more games that included flyovers than not, so it happens pretty often during the regular season. It's not just for special occasions. The military units tasked with it are your local state National Guard units for the most part because they happen to be close by, and they are always happy to do it because it's just another mission to build hours, train, etc.
This makes me even more Proud to be an American. Our troops taking the time to do this for us. I'm so glad you 2 got to see this. We love having you ❤️ Love From Michigan and it's a beautiful evening ❤️

If you want an emotional experience in a flyover, try a missing man formation. I was visiting Sydney 13 years ago. RAAF and USAF participated with Northrop-Grumman in the delivery on LITENING pods for their F-18s. They concluded it by flying over Sydney Harbor when they did the missing man formation to fly over the ANZAC Memorial. Powerful.
As a teen, we were at the beach on Long Island (New York). It was the 4th of July and the Blue Angels did a flyover. The beach shook as they flew over and it sounded like that loudest roar you could imagine. It was truly amazing.
National Anthem is done at literally every kind of sport at every level....flyover & anthem are definitely an emotional mix between excitement pride & thankfulness for those that sacrifice for our freedom....Flyover happens during Super Bowl every single year but it's crazy expensive to even get 'nose bleed' seats
I haven't been to many live events to see a true flyover. Usually they're at championships or opening days and those are some of the most expensive tickets. But I did live right at the crosshairs of the staging zone during the 2008 MLB World Series when game 3 was the first game in Philadelphia. They basically flew over my place from either one of two bases - one in Willow Grove PA or the other just over the river in NJ. They were circling overhead for about 15 minutes before lining up on I95 to go about 15 miles south right over Citizens Bank Park in South Philly. When they were circling so low, you heard a certain consistent rumble. But when they geared up to make that approach, the sound was totally different. Any lower they'd be breaking windows in every house in the neighborhood. It was really awesome. While watching the pre-game on TV, the jets turned up their own volume and took off down the highway. It was really sweet seeing them come into view on tv right on time. Effortless. True pros. Respect.
I witnessed a flyover at a NASCAR race years ago, I think it was in Richmond Virginia? Or maybe Dover Delaware, regardless it was amazing! The bleachers shook, the crowd roared, the whole place felt electrified and it felt so important and patriotic! Wow, I love this country! ❤️🇺🇸🙏
Super Bowl fly overs mainly. Sometimes, the Army/Navy football game....or Airforce vs ? games. The best flyover IMO is one of a squadron of A-10 Warthogs. The sound is AMAZING.
I’ve seen this video so many times and every time I start crying. I’m prior service Air Force and I loved my time in the service. No matter how bad the people at the top are, I will always have an immense amount of pride for the United States.
Most high schools also play the instrumental version at least over the speakers before they start games. Not as often to have someone sing it in high school sports.
I've seen the NFL have a flyover when they have a game being played in UK. They have had the USAF F-15's come out of RAF Lakenheath to do it, if I'm not mistaken.
Maybe interesting, when the pilots spoke of Zulu time (and TOT-time on target), it is London (Greenwich), England standard time. GMT, Greenwich Mean Time, UTC and Zulu (possibly others) are London time and in the US and probably other countries, used for military operations and even civilian flight scheduling. I believe it is as not to get confused or mistaken with AM and PM, Daylight Saving Time, time zones and so on. When precision counts with no mistakes by time zones, AM/PM, etc., London Standard Time is used.
I went to the University of Washington’s game two days ago and there was a surprise flyover that scared me shitless. A moment of pure terror and then just a rush of adrenaline as you see them flying off into the distance. Probably seen a dozen or so at games in my life and it doesn’t get old, even though it’s straight propaganda lol.
I know mom didn't notice she was blabbering all over the anthem and the most exciting part of the video. But son did. It's fine she was so loving it that much.
I just now noticed your American flag colors on your name/logo, that's cool, thanks you guys. We should make you honorary Americans. One thing interesting about the F-15, their engines generate so much thrust, they can literally stand straight up, held up only by the thrust of the engine, it's amazing to watch, they fly in slower and slower and the nose goes up, and it just hovers. Then full throttle and it's streaking straight up, incredible. Our local yearly event, you should try to see it if you ever come to the NW, the Pendleton Round Up, even gets a flyover by an F-15 from Portland, Oregon's Air National Guard fighter wing, really low over the town.
I live about 20 miles from the stadium. Our house is right under the holding pattern for the military aircraft. The jets rattle the windows when they fly over us waiting to make their way to the city! But they are great to see when your in the stadium!
Gotta love flyovers. I'm not sure what the occasion was today but there were 3 AF jets in formation practicing fly overs which took them right over our house at very low altitude several times this afternoon... so cool.
You should watch a video of the NASCAR pre-race activities at Charlotte Motor Speedway. They go full out with flyovers and maneuvers on the infield with paratroopers coming down ropes from helicopters. Something you won’t believe!
Enjoyed watching the flyovers and your take on it. I have never seen one, but we used to have helicopters fly over. You can feel the air vibrate before they get there.
You guys should come to Tampa Florida. The MacDill airforce base is just a short drive to the stadium. They showed one of the old coaches on your clip. But they seem to show a lot of fly overs. To buy an NFL ticket would be atleast $300 a sheet.
The flyovers don't cost the government extra money, because the flyover hours count toward flight training hours, which is already calculated into the annual defense budget.
Opening stadium, what better place for a flyover than "Soldier Field" in Chicago. Built in 1924 as "Grant Park Stadium", Dedicated to the Soldiers from WWI (called the Great War at the time) in 1925. That's the "Field Museum" directly behind it and the "Aquarium" just to its right. The "Plantarium" is out of view way to the right. That area is known as "The Museum Campus". WAY in the back, right before the skyscrapers in the "Art Institute".
The timing goal of the flyover, is for us to be overhead on the word, "Brave". If the performance of the anthem is live rather than recorded, we'd have to adjust our timing to the tempo of the performance.
They do a national anthem at NFL, College, and a High School. And it should never be stopped, the national anthem is a reminder of where you are, and the privileged you have to live in this country.
4:59 "Mission objective for the day is an EXACT TOT (time over target)....at Zulu 21:37:40. 7:00 The lower-right corner of the heads up display (HUD) shows 21:37:31.....so much for exactness and precision....

If someone wants to increase their chances of seeing a flyby, attend the home football game at the United States Air Force Academy (my alma mater) when they play either the United States Military Academy (aka Army, or West Point) or the United States Naval Academy (aka Navy, or Annapolis). There's a very good chance there will be a flyover.

For the air crews, it's a training exercise. They are required to get a certain number of training hours annually.
