Many a time in the 90's I took the bike up there to watch. My mate Andrew Smith went on to race (but not on street circuits). I went there with Hamish Laing (ex Shihad Basist) and had been previously teaching him to ride trail bikes... He came into the pits mid race and we wondered what had happened... He said the trail riding had paid off... As he was crossing the railway lines he lost the front.. without realising what was happening he lifted a foot off the pegs, kicked the ground and put it back on the pegs in time to avoid the curb and shoot off down the pit row... the "Trail Riders Stomp" as we call it, kicking the ground as you loose the front, gave him the split second extra to stay upright and the front regained enough traction to recover. I watched Bruce Anstey (I thought it was a black bike with odd coloured fluro rims but can't find a pic of it... I actually swapped places with Bruce back and forth in a race.... He was on a borrowed CR, Me on an IT200 and we were chasing some poor guy in the next grade up in a B grade trail ride in Martinborough.. but one of us would run off into the gorse, the other overtaking and catching the 'racer', only to go off into the gorse and have the other of us pass... Ad infinitum... till we got to a checkpoint and realised we were pushing that poor racer... probably improved his time tho... Another time on a local mx track, Bruce faceplanted the CR in a very dusty part of the track and when taking off his helmet I had to remark what a great impression of a potato he made with the bald head (shaved after a recent chemo). We watched Tony Mcmurdo (another friend of friends) on his Kwaka 600 shoehorned into a 400. (Loved that my photo's of Tony's Pink and green bike... look nearly identical in negative (back in the day of film)... (And he had an Indian (with sidecar?) in the same paint... Went with his long red pigtail I guess... Shame I was such a mediocre roadbiker myself.. Better on the YZ's once I had them but never race quality.. Too safe...Just like my mediocre MTB videos 30 yr later... I also watched Andrew Stroud race the circuit on the Britten V1000.. Basically put the front wheel down only to turn corners. Always loved the circuit... walking through the pits, chatting to all the friends of friends circa 90-95... walking the entire circuit. Views from everywhere... oh and the photo I have of a girl on her bike (white with purple.. possibly a CBR...) turning across pit entry, end of the back straight, while she was tipped 30deg... both wheels over the railway tracks... in the air about 50mm... I bet the riders don't want to know that happens in that corner...
@@TheButlerNZ Yep got a couple good shots in archives over that rail line. Lot happening that you don’t see til it’s a moment frozen in time. Cheers for the history update.

Lol - my outrageous sense of black humour thinks this is possibly the funniest thing I’ve seen in years! Motorcyclists, doing a Boxing Day run, around a cemetary! The irony is far from lost on me.😂
Fantastic video,,,
Great value to see the racing. A lot of work in setting up for these street racing events.
As a teenager I was there to witness this event the very first time it was held, as part of a carnival, I believe, I am a 85 yo old fellow now,
Saw my fair share of those in real back in the 70's and 80's. Good to see they're still going! Thanks for the show :)
Thanks for that, appreciate your efforts. Looks like the weather cleared OK.....
Looks like a lot of fun
Ah Wanganui.. I recognise the tower on the hill. I went to polytech there. Never saw any races though. Too busy getting drunk and stoned! 😁

Nice filming
Cheers came out better than expected for cellphone.
@R580NZ even the editing was smooth, nice clip edit mate! Loved seeing the wheelie! Keep up the good work!
Like L&P i guess, "World Famous in New Zealand".
