The question you need to ask yourself here is: do I really want to sprinkle abrasives all over my ways, my lead screws and ground precision surfaces? In essence, that boils down to: do I want to keep my lathe precise and crisp, or do I want to save the money for a dedicated disk sander, and use it to replace my lathe once it dies from an advanced case of having abrasives everywhere? Seriously, at the very least, you need way covers if you want to use abrasives on your lathe.
Indeed this is the worth thing you could do in the lathe, considering the very delicate metal of the Unimat 3😮
