When you say I don't think she'll come back from this, remember we used to say that about Boris on an almost daily basis and it took years for him to be finally chucked out.
You can add to the £43 billion debt, £65 billion Bank of England Government bail out plus the now forgotten £55 billion Track & Trace fiasco plus £4 billion in Back to Business Loan Frauds. In reality the Government debt is not £43 billion it's a minimum of a £163 BILLION & increasing by the day in interest charges!
'I want to make it quite clear,...er...James...that I am absolutely determined to deliver for Britain and to carry out the policies on which I was elected. I want to be quite clear about this.' Yes, dead in the water.
Penny Mordaunt was not really 'in the Royal Navy', though she certainly likes to pretend that she was. She was a reservist, and then she was given an honorary rank as a result of her political activities. She never saw active service, though she likes to post pictures of herself in the uniform of her honorary rank. She is basically what is known as a 'Walt', someone who wants to use the armed forces to big themselves up, without having ever actually served... not very popular with those who have actually served!
Being a reservist makes you part of the Navy though? Not defending her, but if she got in as a reserve, she would have had to pass the same selection as everyone else wouldn't she?
@@readmycomment3157 Not trying to undermine the reserves. I have family members who gave a lot as reserves. I also have family members who saw active service, and it's not the same thing. Mordaunt was a Sub-Lieutenant in the reserves... and if she kept saying that, that would be fine. But she likes to post pictures of herself in a Captain's uniform. To which she is also entitled... but on a purely honorary basis. Being given an honorary rank of Captain as a politician, and having put in time in the reserves, with a final rank of Sub-Lieutenant, does not amount to serving as a Captain in the Royal Navy.
There's no point trying to backtrack. You said 'she wasn't really in the Royal Navy'. How can she be a 'walt' when it was the navy who gave her the rank..idiot.. Walts are people who have no association with the military at all. Only someone like you who clearly doesn't have a clue can call a reservist and rank holder a Walt. Reservist have fought and died in nearly all our major conflicts. To suggest that reservists are not really members of our armed forces is not only offensive it's ignorant, ill informed and disrespectful.
"If you remember, people were faced with energy bills of £6,000" How could anyone forget? It's the answer she and any Conservative spokesperson gives to ANY question they are asked.
And all due to Peeyutin. So instead of a £6000 yearly energy bill people now only have to worry about £700 monthly increase in mortgage payments. Clueless imbecile. While her chancellor is a smug chancer (possibly) gaming the markets. And her Home Secretary vile.
People were faced with energy bills of £6,000 *because* of her refusal to implement a true price cap, like the 4% staturory-limited rise that was brought in, in France. (We've had 85% rise since 1 year ago).
This is the scenario that Dominic Cummings described - Truss is so monumentally useless (and dangerous to the country) that it would provide an opportunity for the return of Johnson.
During, during covid, not seeing grandma, Boris laughed over it. Who really wants Boris to damage the economy for cashless society and the mark of the beast. Obama.

If so, why do we need to attract them with even larger bonuses when the ones in place are so huge? Do these elite few carry magic beans to fix us? And if I was a banker, looking for a job, the UK doesn't seem appealing for a dozen other more compelling reasons than a bonus. Don't we need more nurses than bankers? There is a serious problem in the UK and in other countries as well no doubt, but for years now, there has been an almost endless merry go round of talentless, incompetent, men and women moving through the board rooms of this countries major businesses. These people join companies whose business is something they know absolutely nothing about, they stay just long enough to be acrue huge ammounts of money, and then move on to another company, before they can completey decimate the fortunes of the company they are leaving. And the reason that I bring this up here, is because the same mentality and behaviour is also prevalent in Westminster. Especially in the Tory party, who's raison d'etre it seems, is to protect the idiots mentioned above.
She's certainly done for if she makes any attempt to cut benefits at a time when many people need them to help get them through this financial crisis. Then again, I wouldn't put anything past this lot.
Remember Andrew, people on benefits tend not to vote Conservative. She need not pander to, or care about them. The issue that frightens her is the potential backlash from working people who also now rely on a top up with UC just to survive. The working people also will not get any inflation proof rise in their paypacket. Wages have not kept up with the cost of living in decades in real terms. Finally, the Tories have introduced more tax rises and new taxes in living memory. Remember Osborne's 'pasty tax'?..People will respond when kicked too hard too often.

Atleast Sunak was intelligent and articulate. It's crazy how she only needed the "Sunak's wife is a billionaire who pays her taxes in India" to win than any credible knowledge of handling an economy.
Not that that I'm a fan of any Conservative - I'm not - but if that *is* what sunk Sunak, it only serves to illustrate the inherent racism of Conservatives and conservatives, flag-sh*ggers all.
To be fair, he didn't cover himself in glory, the longer it went on, the more desperate he became. Truss was consistently bad, Sunak was inconsistent, and at times he made her look sensible.
Well even if Mrs Sunak was paying UK tax, with the policy Liz Truss just did a U-Turn on, it would have bought in a tidy extra sum of money with the scrapping of the extra 5% tax for the billionaire. So using that as an argument was ridiculous when she would have been putting extra money, literally millions, back into her pocket even is she was a UK tax payer. She was always going to be helping the richest with all the extra benefits with taxation as well as bankers bonuses, no windfall tax, lower corporation tax, higher cap on energy as it’s still a 98% increase as opposed to 156% which isn’t even half the reduction. Plus she said for average households it will be capped at no more then £2,500 so that isn’t everyone. The Middle class is being obliterated so we will end up with two groups, the poor and the rich. No scales of in-between.

The Tories would bring back Victorian Workhouses if they got the chance. Rees Mogg would wear his Top Hat for the first opening of one.
The public are sick of getting crumbs that fall from the banquet table of the rich, Liz and her policies are destined to fail, just like the last 12 years of Conservative policies have failed us. They have this country in a wreck.
We need a competent government that will give the public a much better share of the cake.
Though I victoriana times the gentlemen would not stand for an upstart middle class boy wearing a top hat. Mogg isn't as posh as he'd like you to believe, and it terrifies him that you will realise he's from middle class stock. The aristocracy know this. And will never fully accept him, that makes Jacob sad.

Don't undermine the reserves, thats not fair.
Being a reservist makes you part of the Navy though? Not defending her, but if she got in as a reserve, she would have had to pass the same selection as everyone else wouldn't she?
Like Badenoch’s claim to have contributed to a book, only for the author to clarify that by saying she did some photocopying!

As an aside, I have never understood this fuss they make over bankers' bonuses. At the risk of sounding thick, are we short of bankers?
Well said

@@timeslip6914 Too many people on benefits don't vote and some do vote conservative, working in a manual unskilled job I have been very surprised by the number of conservative supporters in that workplace. 27 days since Tory MPs came away from that thinking things would be alright. That she’d acquitted herself well. That she’d be a problem for Starmer
27 days
And how much has changed
Thing is in that first PMQs it was all "Congrats on becoming PM" and a only 3 questions from Starmer. He couldn't call her out on to much as she'd only been in the job 5 minutes and hadn't even made her speech declaing intentions. Yes, she did OK but it was barely a warm up and her line about how Labour tax everyone wouldn't have held up if there'd been time for Starmer to push back. It takes a few back and forths before they get off the script and that's where she will always struggle.
Articulate I'll give you.
