My LCS guy told me "you aren't ready for gold yet". This went on for years! One day I went in & told him "My stack is so heavy! It would take several trip to move it". He just smiled and told me "Son, now you are ready for gold."

Yankee! I'm 63 and I just started collecting silver eagles two months ago. I was so surprised at what I missed over the years. I should have been buying gold in 1973 when gold was 40 dollars an ounce! But that boat sailed a long time ago. So now I'm buying 3 to 5 silver eagles a month. Social security doesn't pay much, so that's about all that I can afford now!

Ron - It’s never to late my Friend!! A little at a time adds up quick!! I started buying 1/10th ounce gold eagles during the dips - one every 4/6 weeks when I could afford it. You’ll be up to an ounce before you know it!! Keep Stackin Buddy!!

Fantastic Ron! WTG. And I’m not nitpicking here, gold in any amount is great, but the premiums on 1/10 ozt can be quite large compared to a 1/4 ozt. You might want to consider saving a bit longer to get the larger denom. Just a suggestion. 👌🏼

Love your videos. New to this and have watched tons of videos. I’m obsessed with the gold to silver ratio - one of your items on there. While I just started, the idea of doing this for 20 to 30 years to ‘get metal’ makes a lot of sense by using the ratios. I know you’re a prepper stacker. But what if someone just holds on to silver?
If you bought 1000 ounces at $10 an ounce of silver in 1970 and held it until today, you’d have 1000 ounces at $16.65 per ounce or $16000. Not a really good return over 50 years.
However, if you played the ratios at the extremes from 1970 until now, you’d have about $800,000 in silver.
Right now, silver is at 87:1 and it’s due to head back down to 40:1 sometime soon. If you take your gold and get some monster boxes of silver, when the ratio goes back down in a few years, you will double your gold. When t goes back up to 80:1, get more monster boxes of silver.
From what I’ve been studying - it makes sense at the top end of the ratio to buy silver like crazy. On the low end, buy gold like crazy. 60:1? Buy even amounts. Between 60:1 and 70:1? Maybe 3/4th silver and 1/4th gold. Between 50:1 and 60:1? 3/4 gold and 1/4th silver. 70:1 and up? All silver. 50:1 and below? All gold.
Find where you flip. 80:1? 45:1?
Take a look a the charts how they go up and down. I also have an excel with a ‘what if’ scenario. I could see silver hit 25-30 in the next 1-2 years with the pending recession. Just like on the other side of the dotcom boom, gold tanked. Could you imagine 25 silver and 1250 gold? There’s your 50:1. 30 silver and 1200 gold? There’s your 40:1. What about 30 silver and 600 gold for a 20:1? That might be extreme, but that was early 70s.
Point is - what is the perfect ratio for me? Buy heavy on extremes and proportion it out when you get to the middle ratios.
If you like my comment - leave my name out. No one needs the press in this racket :)
PS - as a prepper stacker, what ratio do you have to ASE versus junk?
    1) premiums on ASE are insane. Yeah, you might get some of that back - but maybe not?
    2) what if silver hits $50 per ounce? I was watching a video where apparently back in the day when that happened, refineries were backed up and they weren’t taking junk. Backed up for 11 weeks and you then lose out on the price apex.
My thoughts are 75% ASE and 25% junk - up to a goal for junk (the prepper side in me!). I also have heard that if you go to sell ASEs in made quantities it’s exempt from a tax form whereas bars and junk you’d have to report it. Do tax laws affect how you stack?
Also - if you are in a pinch prep situation, I like that you can take a tube of the gold eagles with you. But those make it awfully hard to buy a meal. Love the idea of tons of Rosies for that purpose to go along with the tube of gold eagles. In that situation, it also doesn’t make much sense dragging 4 monster boxes around with you so that whole ratio thing might not be a prepper’s cup of tea

    • @YankeeStacking
      @YankeeStacking  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

WOOOOOOOOOW!! Nathan, I honestly don’t know where to start. And in the interest of time (and fairness to all the other comments that I have) I think I’m going to just answer it by saying as a prepper Stacker my focus is on what I believe is going to occur in the next few years that will be completely unprecedented. All the “buy low sell high”, silver to gold ratio, etc. will not matter much when we are struggling to simply survive, and after the initial few months of a food and water panic, barter gives way to a new currency-silver and gold.
I also do not view my precious metal Stacking as an investment. I use property and private mortgage lending for my main investment vehicles.
Check out my Stacking the Yankee way, and Prepping the Yankee way playlists for more details and THANK YOU so much for watching and commenting. 😃👌🏼

@Nathan Fisher Good point. Silver did go upto $70 an ounce in 2011. This is a 600 percent rise in 40 years. That is close to 15% a year. Not too bad. But then, I am sorry for folks who bought silver at $70, and wonder what they are doing now. In any case it is not going to zero value like cash can after 40 years. Even now, I would stick to what I can afford. Silver will be very useful when the currency collapses or if you can exchange some for gold.

  • @scottkeen69

Yankee, stacking ratios are a fun exercise but for me right now, I have stacking goals. TH-camr "belangp" started a "100 oz Club". He said it's an exclusive club and all you have to do to join is stack 100 ounces of gold. This is not easy and can take a long time, so it's quite an accomplishment to be proud of when you get there. If gold was the only money in the world, based on the size of the world population and the number of ounces of gold worldwide, 100 ounces puts you well within the wealthiest top 1% of the world. I'm not there.
But this led me to another goal. 100 ounces of gold is 1 futures contract. What is a futures contract of silver? It's 5,000 ounces of silver. I'm not there either.
So those are my goals: 1 futures contract equivalent of physical gold (100 ounces) and 1 futures contract equivalent of physical silver (5,000 ounces). No particular reason, just a goal I want to shoot for.
You can simultaneously get to that goal by stacking 50 ounces of silver to every 1 ounce of gold, if stacking a futures contract in physical metal is your target. Plus it gives you a 50:1 stacking ratio.
Maybe the first milestone might be to first stack 1% of each futures contract in physical metal. Then shoot for 10%. Then 50%. And eventually over time maybe you can get to 100% and have a futures contract of each in physical metal and then you've also joined the 100 oz Club.

    • @YankeeStacking
      @YankeeStacking  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Sounds interesting!! Not sure if I’ll ever get into that club, but I understand what you’re talking about.
As the contracts, I understand the draw of that as well! However, as a prepper Stacker I do not want any significant amount of my currency in ETFs or other Gold and silver contracts. I did a video on it earlier, but suffice it to say that I want to hold my gold and silver as tangible, and tradable, assets when an SHTF situation occurs. Thanks for watching and for your informative comment! 👌🏼

I like your plan. Depending on what each is worth and what your budget is, it's a good way to dip into both metals. My plan is not on ratio, but what their price is at the time. Right now, I believe silver is still at a stackable price and I can continue to stack my silver. Gold is a little expensive and I haven't gotten any since the big spike for both metals this past year. If it ever went below $1350, I might divert from silver and get into gold. This has been my plan based upon the high/low prices that I have seen both metals at and what I have seen myself since my time as a stacker.

    Well spoken Yankee!
I have purchased both gold and silver, I don't know about the rest of you guys here, but it's WAAY more exciting opening a tube of ASEs or maples, compared to a 1/4 oz gold piece... The silver tubes compared to 1/4 oz gold are basically the same $$$ price.
My "non financial" advice is to definitely diversify in both metals.
Don't be like me and get on the gold buying rush after it goes up to the moon.... because you were to solely focused on silver.
For example for every $100 dollars you spend on silver ... Spend $50 on gold.

Gold = savings, Silver = checking. My current ratio is 56% gold and 44% silver, but it's definitely fluctuated. When I first started, I spent a bunch of savings on gold then later bought silver. Then just random cool stuff that I like depending on how much money I have. Though I've been buying more silver lately just because gold is much more expensive now. I think another factor to consider is how much money someone has. If someone can't afford a full ounce of gold, then I think low premium 90% silver or ASE's would be the better deal for someone just starting out.

Yankee based on your initial position in Gold and the current GSR I feel pretty good about your strategy. Keep loading the boat on liquid silver. As for me who is only sitting at 3.5 ounces of Gold I am more 50/50. A tube of 20 SAEs is roughly the same price in FIAT as a quarter ounce gold sovereign coin. Here's my simple rule.......is the GSR above its 40 yr avg? Buy silver. Below? Buy gold. 40 yr avg keeps moving up about an ounce an ounce a yr, now at 65. 40 years takes into account a lot of market cycles. I'm keeping it simple and looking forward to the day i can add more gold. I currently have about 1,100 ounces of silver and just 2 oz of gold, 8 oz of platinum which is even farther from its 40 year GPR.

Afterwards, put a 10 oz silver bar in one of her hands and $100 in the other and ask "which one do you feel more empowered by?"
Lastly, take your wife on a vacation overseas and bring 1 gram of gold to make a purchase while you are there. The reaction of the vendor will likely leave a lasting impression in your wife's mind.

Just watching this about 2 years after posting. Surprisingly, I've been using this approximate ratio. Although my focus was on silver bullion, I have gone with the 1/10 and 1/4 gold Britannia coins - liking the look and were comparatively inexpensive. I was simply going by the approximate bullion value ration of 100:1 silver/gold. I do plan on picking up some of the credit card 1g gold cards, for more "prepping" type needs.

Not sure if anyone else does this, but I focus on the ratio of gold and silver less in terms of weight than in terms of equivalent cash amount. I agree with Yankee in that I stack to store value and weather through monetary apocalypse, but now that cash money is still there, and we all know that in stacking precious metal we are swapping cash money in exchange for value-preserving metals, cash money is still a good yardstick. I reserve a certain amount of my monthly income for stacking, and within that amount I set a ratio for gold vs silver purchase (say, 7:3, meaning for every $100 I set $70 for gold and $30 for silver). That way I guarantee that I get several troy oz of silver and maybe a fractional gold bar/coin for every month. Occasionally I get out of my ratio a bit (say from 7:3 to 8:2 if I really like a deal on a gold coin, or to 5:5 if I have to go to a local coin show to buy cheap silver bullion) and I did save up my ratio for the past few months to snatch a 1 oz gold bar (man the Royal Canadian Mint gold bar is gorgeous). But doing this in cash amount is just way easier and retains much larger level of flexibility.

For beginners, I would suggest buying gold if you can afford it. Often, for the smaller denomination gold coins (1/10 oz or 1/4 oz) there is a premium, but if you look around you can often pick up small denominations where there is almost no premium. If you can't afford gold, I would suggest buying silver bullion coins. Try and get ones in the best condition you can and avoid buying collectors' coins or special coins or proof coins, they are hard to sell on at a profit and unless you really know what you are doing you will most likely lose money. Always try to buy from reputable dealers. Spend a lot of time doing research and looking around at various sites online to find the best rates. Look up gold and silver prices and gold to silver ratios. Here is a good site in the UK www.chards.co.uk/silver-price/silver-spot-price Be aware that for coins you always pay above the spot price.

I do 60ozt silver to .25 ozt gold. I get these neat little 60-coin holder boxes off amazon ( airtight cases included) and when I fill the box up I buy some gold. A lot of people say not to worry about keeping silver (for weight) in air tight containers but I just really like them. I see you keep most of your silver in tubes, what are your thoughts on air tight containers?

    • @YankeeStacking
      @YankeeStacking  5 ปีที่แล้ว

Thank you for your comment! I absolutely LOVE air-tites. I use them quite a lot with my (few) higher premium silver and with my 24 karat gold maples. The former so I may avoid some tarnishing and the latter because 24 karat gold is soft and can damage easily.
Other than that, I find it a waste of money for large amounts of bullion silver and gold. But they do look good in them! 😉👌🏼

I guess it might make more sense with Silver in the states, eventho the combined premiums are higher than gold.
Now in my Country Sweden, silver doesn't make sense. Not only is there the higher premiums and higher spread.
But there is also a 25% sales tax. Buying Silver you'll lose 25%, and where you'll lose it is if you sell to a dealer.
Or through a legit service to a private person(like Ebay or similar). This is also true in many other countries.
Gold however has a lower premium and spread.. and doesn't get taxed.
Now I do own waay too much silver for my own good, but I did get it through a loophole in a certain eu nation.
Hrhrhm.. Not anymore tho since the dealer is closed down during these last 5 years of investigation from the government.
The gold fractionals used to have an insane premium attached, and in most cases they still have.
But there's coming out more and better competing alternatives in the fractional gold market.
1.6g Maples for example is currently at a very acceptable price point. And I think we'll see some
low premium 1g bars in the coming years.
