With the MLB trade deadline approaching, the Dodgers have made a significant move. The Los Angeles Dodgers have traded left-handed pitcher Matt Gage to the New York Mets in exchange for cash considerations.
Gage, who was immediately sent to Triple-A, never played a game for the Dodgers after being acquired in a trade involving Caleb Ferguson with the New York Yankees.
He re-signed with Los Angeles on a minor league deal in April after being released from a major league contract.
During his time with Triple-A Oklahoma City, Gage posted a 4.29 ERA in 20 games, with a 1-3 record and a 1.38 WHIP. Last week, the Dodgers added him to their 40-man roster after he triggered an opt-out clause in his contract, but he remained at the Triple-A level.
Originally a tenth-round pick by the San Francisco Giants in 2014, Gage made his major league debut in 2022 with the Toronto Blue Jays. In 16 games between 2022 and 2023, he pitched for the Blue Jays and Houston Astros, achieving a 1.83 ERA over 19.2 innings.
This trade has now opened a spot on the Dodgers’ 40-man roster, which has already been filled by the promising Justin Wrobleski. Called up from Triple-A Oklahoma City, Wrobleski made a solid major league debut against the Milwaukee Brewers, racking up 4 strikeouts.
