  • Hi lovely people! After A LOT of work we finally get our natural pond filled up! We then try to set up a watering system for our vegetable garden using the water from the Spring fed pond. This does not go to plan initially but we battle on to find a solution. Towards the end of the week a much awaited delivery finally arrives to our mountain farm. Exciting times ahead!
See you on the next one,
    Dani, Will & Bailey xx

Always nice to see you both working on your homestead getting things done, solving puzzles with getting the water flowing. Hope the veggie garden will enjoy the water and that the harvest may be abundant!

Never realised it rained so much in Northern Portugal in winter/spring.. you are both doing a great job renovating your home and land.. you both have a chilled “let’s get this done” attitude.. a lot of land to manage.. a lot of work.. ❤

I love the videos and they're very helpful. For the leaks, maybe identify all leaks and use concreate to seal them off and fill up the pond again.

I think you made great progress on your pond damn. These types of repairs are never fully fixed on the first try. Do you best to isolate the source of the leaks and try again. The leak at the bottom of the damn seems like it may be coming underneath the damn. If so, that will take some digging and pouring a foundation under the stone with cement - something 'm sure you can do. But for now - enjoy it the way that it is.
The big frog is VERY happy to have a pond back :)
Really excited about the kitchen build!

I'm in love with your spring-fed pond, and it's such an asset to have in an area that can go dry in summer.
I'm guessing you'll learn to live with its foibles, over the years. The wooden plug adds comedy value.
My next comments are perhaps unasked-for advice, but I hope they might help:
There are probably three ways to repair the leaks, and the 'green' one is to use clay to block the gaps, because clay as a soil type shouldn't let much water through if the layer is thick enough.
The other two options are to use a plastic pond liner, or to concrete the surface with a mesh contained within the render mix. In the latter case, you'd certainly need to dig out the pond first.
The pipe outlet in the pond probably needs a cage box over it, to prevent it getting clogged up with weed.
The water pressure will be a function of how full the pond is, and how big your upper pipe is, where it emerges from the pond. The physical height difference between the pond and the raised beds should give you plenty of header tank pressure.
Adding the small tank below the pond only works as a secondary reserve, and won't actually improve the water feed or pressure. But you might think in the longer term of building a cisterna tank of a much bigger scale, and that would be a separate feature giving you a bigger reserve of water, and that tank could double up as a clean summer plunge pool, to work alongside your existing 'nature' pond.
My friends in the Algarve have solved their own garden irrigation problem by building a massive cisterna, but it's also disguised as a wildwater swimming pool, complete with water plants and reeds used as the filtration system.
Best wishes from a very cold south coast of England.

You may need to 'prime' the pipe leading to the tap; fill it with water so that when you open the tap the water leaving the pipe draws more from the source as it creates vacuum in the pipe. x.

That’s so wonderful that you have peach and cherry trees too! You will be able to make some really nice pies and cobblers. The pond is looking amazing and you did a great job problem solving the irrigation issues. It’s so nice to see all the aquatic life in the pond. It looks like the weather is improving there. Have a wonderful spring growing your garden. I can’t wait to see your fruits and vegetables. It was fun seeing your bird nest too. Did the baby birds hatch yet? ❤️

Agree with those trees being the source of some gorgeous pies! Wondering about the fledgings too - did they hatch yet! Love the fact that that the fledgings are living and working alongside the new fledging farmers at the same time.

Thinking if you waited for the pond to fill more your original solution would have worked you just lacked pressure.
Every meter drop (water depth) equals about 0.1 bar pressure, and if i saw right the little tank is situated below the pool so you are actually losing some pressure at the tap (well in theory anyway as that original pipe may also be more prone to blockages).

Rather than use the plug, I think a shut off valve of sort with a long handle to screw the valve open and shut, to be able to allow water to regulate the flow completely due to amount for overflow.
