  • Brownells Gun Tech™ Caleb gives us the low-down on the ASF from Forward Controls Design. ASF stands for "Ambidextrous Selector, Forward Controls." It's an ambi selector lever for the AR-15 liberally upgraded with FCD's usual ergonomic thoughtfulness and innovative engineering. Pronounced texturing on the thumb levers themselves helps you get a secure "purchase" to operate them under stress. But there are no sharp edges or rough surfaces to cause your skin to part ways with your thumb.
    You can get your ASF with a 90-degree or 50-degree throw. The Q-Lever version has offset levers positioned at the TOP of the selector body. For some shooters, the Q-Lever gives them better leverage to operate the safety quickly and positively. If that doesn't sound like something you want, you can also get the ASF with the thumb lever projecting straight behind the selector body. You get a short lever and a long lever, and you can install each one on the side of the receiver that works best for you.
    Forward Controls Design does not cut corners with the materials, so their AR-15 safety selector is machined from 4140 carbon steel and given a super-tough nitride-type QPQ finish, so it's not gonna rust. The package contains the two levers, four roll pins, spring, and detent. The levers attach to the selector cylinder via the roll pins, so there's no risk of selector failure due to screws working loose. FCD even gives you the spring and detent specced to ensure their safety will operate correctly for you.

    Messed around with other levers like the radian, and the FCD offset levers are hands down my favorite. Been phasing them into all 4 of my builds. Highly recommend!!

      @derek3154 I haven't used the FCD, don't like the idea of "using a roll pin to set it" on a safety. Once the Radian's are assembled, they're not coming apart unless you slam them against a Biden voter.

      @derek3154 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Fister_of_Muppets what’s wrong with a roll pin? I found it easier than the Radian to get on/off, plus it’s thinner and longer with a better finish..better ergonomics. But I have both so it’s not enough of a difference to go swapping them all out as they are like $80 💰🥲.

    I like that the short-throw variant uses a 50 degree vs the "standard" 45 degree. Sometimes the 45 variants aren't compatible with some trigger and receiver combinations preventing trigger function. The 50 degree seems to solve that problem without affecting the short-throw feature.

    great content & review: the only problem I have with FCD, is their pricing. you end up paying more for the Name than you do the product. it costs .90 cents to make it, and then mark it up to $49.99 or more. that is what is wrong with the U.S. firearms industry, or any other US manufacturer it is literally over pricing everything. that's why consumer buy foreign made, instead of supporting US made products.

    • @joshuabruce9920
      @joshuabruce9920 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not this particular one because it is not a select fire, it only has 2 positions. You need their select-fire version if you stand a chance at it working with your binary trigger. I've wondered the exact same thing because I'm not too crazy about the safety that came in my Franklin armory lower. You would have to try the 90° select fire safety bc it'll rotate to the 3rd position. I doubt the 50° select fire would work considering the factory safety is a 90°. If you do try and it works, let me know. You have to like my comment for me to see the reply tho, good ole TH-cam censoring

      Because controls on either side of something are bi=both, and lateral=side(s). I am ambidextrous and play tennis with either hand. Webster defines it as “using both hands with equal ease or dexterity”. Just because many people get it wrong doesn’t make it right.
