- Anne Murray and Rita MacNeil unite in a lovely duet.
Rita MacNeil's biggest hit, "Flying On Your Own", was a crossover Top 40 hit in 1987 and was covered by legendary Anne Murray the following year.
"Rita had many, many obstacles to overcome," said Murray. "It shows the strength of her character that she was able to achieve all the success that she did." Although the two women had the same manager, Leonard Rambeau, they didn't meet until the early 1990s when MacNeil and the Rankin Family were guests on a television special Murray was filming in Halifax [the above video is an excerpt from this special].
"She was so sweet and humble" Murray remembered, but "she was so nervous, she was throwing up. I always do my best to make people as comfortable as possible and I thought I was really good at it, and then Rita came along ...but she did it and she did it well because she is a consummate professional. But I felt bad for her."
MacNeil's soprano and Murray's alto blended well together, says Murray, adding with a laugh that "my voice is so low, I can sing below anybody." - เพลง

Have been a fan of Anne Murray for many years and saw her in concert in Melbourne, Australia. But I didn't know much about Rita MacNeil before coming across the song Working Man online. What a great song that is. And the song on this video is also quite moving and well sung in this duet by two proud Canadians. Also discovered that like Anne, Rita was popular in Australia.

Anne Murray said she was mystified her recording of this song did not make the top of the charts. It truly is a great mystery. If is a remarkable song and the recording was brilliant. This due with the Rita MacNeil is truly thrilling; two great talents who understand each other totally.

I saw them both in concert, individually. I met 'Rita' and told her I love this song. She softly said, "Thank you dear". Lovely
They did a wonderful job, but I couldn't help thinking that they were holding back for fear of not complimenting each other. Take the time to listen to Rita singing this one by herself. It is a truly beautiful song.

@@rtogurl oh yessss I remember hearing on radio when it came out Rita’s song I just burst into tears no TH-cam back then so big LP record I took it down to my Uncle Terry he was one of the last coalminers in Australia to take down Pit ponies my proud heart beats , anyway he was moved by the song I’m so proud of my posterity who were coalminers in Ireland 🇮🇪 England 🏴 and Wales 🏴 God bless all Coalminers they have true grit

I love Reta MacNeil. She was a very good singer. I love to sing her songs on Accpected a Rose tonight. It was very good. I think she was a beautiful soul inside her. I miss her singing at Christmas shows I used to watch on TV 📺 😊 🤗 💖 🤩 😊 👏

Hi Rita I really hope you get this message this was my sister's and my favorite song...we alway's listened to this song.... My sister just graduated and went on Holiday's...When she got back she was murdered at the age of 20...

Makes me proud to be Canadian. I miss Rita’s specials. Thank God we can listen to her anytime. Have always enjoyed Anne’s songs as well. My Mum is originally from Jamaica and enjoys listening to both these great singers. The warmth in their singing transcends culture
I like Anne, but Rita sang this song so much better.
Wonderful song, but sadly it leaves out God. I’m nothing without Him. Jesus Christ has carried me ever since He saved me. He is faithful during the good, bad and in between.
