Very interesting breakdown, and you made a great series. I’m interested in creating a plug and play swap kit by milling some of the expensive audi parts myself.

Great follow-up video to your series. Your friend's R8 looks clean, almost like working on a new car!

Amazing! Has anyone tried doing the conversion on any of the newer R8 models?

Underground Racing did a manual swap on a Gen 2. That type of swap requires aftermarket ECUs and quite a bit of fabrication.

I'd love to have this done on my gen 1 R8, but I'm not sure where to take it to have it done. Any suggestions?

how much would you say to budget for to get this conversion done on 2016 v10. plus?

You can look at the costs video that I created. That should answer your question!

Quick question, I am looking to do this conversion soon myself, and just trying to get a baseline understanding of how these transmissions work. I have been getting some conflicting answers online.
So the rtronic already has the same clutch a manual does, and this does not need to be swapped?
So if the clutch is slipping already and starting to go in the rtronic and then you convert it to manual, it'd be pretty safe to assume the clutch will be on its way out and need replacing soon.
and or it wouldn't be very wise to pick up an r8 with auto trans issues, just because you are converting it to manual doesn't mean it will fix the issues internally unless you were to remove the trans completely and do a full rebuild?
Thanks for your time, sorry if these seem like pretty dumb obvious questions, trying to start somewhere and seem to be finding conflicting info haha, thanks!

      Hey Luke,
      1. Clutch does not need to be swapped out
      2. Yes if clutch is already slipping, mind as well just replace with new clutch, throwout bearing, and flywheel. Change the rear main seal as well while you're in there.
      3. It's going to depend, because if the R-Tronic unit is failing (it cannot shift well, gets stuck into gear, seals are failing), then the manual conversion will resolve it. If there is something internally wrong inside the transmission, the conversion will not solve the problem.
