    As a child I'd wave Bye-Bye to the Choo-Choo at the end of every episode. I was sad because, sitting on the floor in my footie pajamas, I knew it was my bedtime. But I still love that old train. I become 6 years old again and the troubles of today slip away like a bad dream. I'm home again. Thank you for the wonderful ride Choo-Choo. Bye-Bye.

    Janet: "Poor Joe." Floyd: "Why? He was the first one to write!" One of the best final lines to a TV series. You KNOW this is the true final show. The 3 that "followed" LOVE REARS>>"NO,NO.. & BETTY JO"S BUSINESS been previously preempted when they were originally SUPPOSED to air possibly to TV specials and yet CBS felt obligated to run them out of sequence, or burn them off as they say. The Same thing happened to THE DONNA REED SHOW the final episode was followed a week later by a regular show

    "Green Acres" lasted until 1971, a year longer than "Junction". Did anyone from PJ appear in the last season of GA and did the Cannonball continue to run?

    • @mnbfamily8110
      @mnbfamily8110 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Apart from Sam Drucker, no one from PJ was even mentioned that season.

    Bobbie Jo forgot to mention the all-night party on the train but Kate was against her having the party at the school or wherever they were supposed to had it at and they came up with the idea that the Cannonball would be the party then they had the party on the train

      I don't get it. Just because Kate wasn't on the show anymore didn't mean her NAME couldn't be mentioned SHEESH

    A new executive at the time came into CBS cancelled this show alone with Mayberry RFD, Beverly Hillibillies, Green Acres, and a bunch of shows at the same time. Because these shows was centered around rural routes he wanted to focus on shows that centered around big cities to keep up with ABC & NBC even those these shows was very popular & successful with high ratings. He feared CBS becoming the Country Broadcasting Station.

      Actually, this show's cancellation came at the same time as the cancellation of Jackie Gleason's and Red Skelton's shows. The big "Rural Purge" was a year later.
      An irony about "PJ's" cancellation involved co-star June Lockhart - as the show that took its place on the CBS Saturday night schedule for 1970-71 was the "Mary Tyler Moore" show - in which first five seasons Cloris Leachman played Mary's eccentric landlady Phyllis Lindstrom. The irony in that? 12 years before all this, Ms. Leachman had been replaced as the mom on "Timmy and Lassie" by Ms. Lockhart.

    She sure got one over on him. I come up with $15,811.3842. That's nine figures, but only if you count the 38.42¢

    • @billjohnson3858
      @billjohnson3858 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually, she's correct. $15,811.38 is 75 years of compounded interest on the first year's $200 only. The correct answer is $260,189.74

    I'd love to know why these episodes weren't in order!!! Floyd left at the end of season 5 and Janet didn't come on til later in season 6. Janet didn't even KNOW Floyd! . . . and WENDLE was mentioned too???? WHAT!!!!
    and also, did Homer Bedloe die at this point? I was wondering why HE wasn't on this episode
    and this episode would have made for a MUCH better last episode of the series

    • @chuckschafer6728

      HOMER BEDLOE RETIRED BY THAT TIME

    • @ronaldclermont4888
      @ronaldclermont4888 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Homer Bedloe (played by Charles Lane) didn't retire until the 1990s. You do think with this storyline he would have shown up.
      Wendell Gibbs (played by Byron Foulger) passed away shortly after this episode was filmed, so he probably didn't feel up to it.
      Floyd Smoot (played by Rufe Davis) did leave after season 5 and was replaced by Wendell for season 6 only. Floyd returned as the engineer for season 7 even tho it was mainly "behind the scenes." He did show up in the season 7 episode "Steve's Uncle George" before appearing here, which was the final filmed episode, and intended as the series finale, even tho it was originally aired out-of-order.

    This episode should have been saved for the very last episode before going off the air for good...only not having any documents to save the train.Janet is the one who really saved the train, not uncle Joe.

      They wasnt totally sure the series was ending. There was hope CBS would renew but they didnt.

      "should have been saved for the very last episode before going off the air for good...only not having any documents to save the train" - Nah. I'd go for something more dramatic: The trestle breaks and the Cannonball plummets to the bottom of the ravine. The boiler explodes. Everyone dies. The final credits roll with the burning wreckage of the Cannonball in the background. ;-)

      They had suspected it but wasnt 100% sure. Season Six was supposed to end the series and CBS renewed at the last minute. They hoped they would do the same this time but it didnt happen.

    Dang corporate 'holes! By that i mean both the C&FW, AND CBS.
    They had something good going here and they derailed her for that dippy dame Mary Tyler Moore. i swear,- i'd rather hear the Cannonball's sweet call than that old bat screeching MR. BOSELY.

    • @wmbrown6
      @wmbrown6 ปีที่แล้ว

      And in so putting MTM in "PJ's" old time slot, a show featuring June Lockhart was replaced with a show featuring Cloris Leachman. The irony? 12 years before, Ms. Leachman had been replaced as the mom on "Timmy and Lassie" by Ms. Lockhart. Take all that as you will.
