I live on the east coast of Massachusetts near the New Hampshire border. Rolling hills and some fairly steep hills on occasion. Went to a single Wolf 46T up front and love it. At some point I will jump up to a 48T. No front derailleur noise or issues. At 59 years of age, I am now looking for simplicity over style. No more front derailleur for me.

I have had an 11/40 cassette fitted at a time I genuinely needed easy gears (together with 50/34 at the front). I could now live without the 11/40 cassette, but would not change for anything in the world. The large gear capacity at the back means I am almost always on the 50 at the front. I am genuinely thinking of 1X on my road bike when I will shortly need to change my transmission.

I just need more gears to find my optimal cadence and power than what a 1x setup provides--I'm often pedaling too fast or too hard. I’m enjoying the bike so far th-cam.com/users/postUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA My only real complaints are the brakes and the pedals. I feel like a bike designed for bigger people should have much larger pedals and more heavy duty brakes. I’ve only gotten two really good rides out of it, minimal downhill action, and the brakes feel like they’re already going out. A larger person has more momentum, so I think this wasn’t thought through very well. Also, I wear size 13-14 wide shoes. My feet cramp up on these pedals that are clearly made for smaller feet. Since I’m not a pro rider (and I don’t think many are who purchase this bike) I don’t think that the straps on the pedal are necessary at all. None of this takes away from the enjoyment I get from riding, however. I’ll just head to a bike shop to improve on a few things.

What kind of issues can you expect to see when you run a 1x on a shimano 105? I have 2 bicycles, and I wanna run my other one as a 1x since I have a relatively flat commute but it's extra long. The speed and the lighter weight might be useful.

the saddle position, the bar/saddle height difference and the rise on the stem are pretty unusual for a roadie. Thats the set up I prefer on my road bike (not the 140mm stem though).

Imagine taking out the inner chainring to give it an aero/weight advantage, yet a dual Disc brake lessens the aero advantage over the rim brake, the irony on aero by manufacturers.

This is nothing new this is what Pantani was basically going up the hills with a 54 and cross chained on the 9 speed in the back. With a 54 ring in a 1x you can ride up hills as if you are doing a time trial with the cross chaining to the max, this allows less spinning and less standing up on the bike. Been doing this for many years but on the flats here.

They usually ride 1/2 sizes smaller bike but they compensate that with longer stems. Calculate his reach to the hoods then. I think that regular stem for Cervelo’s 54cm frame is 11cm.
I’m 5ft9 with 55cm bike and 90-100 stem, that’s actually much less than pro cyclists reach and I still feel like fucked after 60km
