Why is MrMatt so ANGRY after finding an unlocked lift motor room??

- These lifts aren't particularly old, but it's the noise that they make that interested me - very noisy ride!! LED colour change lighting inside is good idea also.
Probably best you see the video regarding the unlocked motor room - WHAT A CHANCE RUINED!!

color changing LED makes that lift fun. how bright is it in person?
Many venders leave the doors in that position so they don't have to get the key, now you have learned a dirty secret that may get you into more of these equipment rooms. Always chalk the door open with a pocket lighter because the locks are sometimes double sided requiring a key to get back in if you exit the roof door, it's no fun being stuck on the roof.

I got so much stuff to say, first of all, sucks that machine room door was a witch. Next, I HAVE NEVER HEARD A KONE M SERIES CHIME THAT HIGH BEFORE (the main rainbow elevators of course.) And finally, that motor for the service elevator is spiced up

Very noisy ride, but is very awesome colour changing LED lights. All lifts the brand is KONE M Series.
If I'd filmed the motor room then it would have been so much better video :/

In the Netherlands in an old shopping center, there are 2 old lifts like these. 1 is a really old kone with 3 the same button panels! And the other one has been recently shut off, it was an really old kone goods lift. The buttons were replaced with the same kone buttons but that lift was epic.
That whole installation is epic because there are lights under the lift which creates an interesting effect

You could consider yourself lucky. Maybe the motor room was alarmed or a CCTV camera would have got you in there.
Another lift with RGB lighting, not just the modded Old Otis lifts at some hotel in Heathrow. Also where are these, in the UK?

I was tired from travelling, I had my suitcase and laptop bag all with me and I wasn't thinking!! I should have dropped it back at the room, then gone exploring! HOWEVER, I think the failed trip is attracting more views that if i'd entered lol :)

Yes, it was a bit of an eye catcher. These are quite noisy lifts and when I found the motor room door I pushed it, it OPENED!!! Then I kind of panicked a little as I had my suitcase blocking open the door to the stairwell and wasn't prepared to enter and I let the door slam shut - this time it locked!!! Could have been so much better this video :(

Sounds like a ventilation system at around 01:38! I wonder what the machinery would have been like, they had obviously spent some money on the lift cars themselves.
If only I had the chance to look, well....actually I DID, but not after the door slammed shut!! I should have gone walk about AFTER I'd dumped my bag in the room, but nope!! This is what happens when you're really tired after travelling for most of the day - silly mistake from not thinking!

I did try every day I was there, too late!!! The rare instance that it was unlocked was ruined by me! I would love to go back there and try again, but not been there since.

Nah, I didn't even make it in the door - I could have done but I should have dumped my bags in my room first and then gone exploring. I went up here with my suitcase with me meaning that I had too much with me. I had planned to take my bag back to my room and come back, but then let the door slam shut and this time it locked!!!! GRRRRRR!
At least they care for others safety to put cameras in your country. I assume most have a camera these days depending on which town we live.

If an elevator breaks due to pushing the buttons meant for the users to push, change your elevator company and buy an elevator that is actually designed to function properly.

good idea, but too late. I wasn't happy as " wanted to see this motor room, sounds like an old one and perhaps the lifts were updated in the 1990s? Was in for a treat, or WAS in for a treat. Rare to get into motor rooms like this, and it was all lined up for me to check it out. Stupid moment of being tired and not thinking about what i was doing.

It’s dangerous to leave a door to the motor room(machine room) unlocked as unauthorized people can get in and they can die from touching anything they don’t know

Okay. That's a great answer. I do elevators because I manage property. I have to deal with the old technology all the time. There's some nostalgia with the old tech, but it's mostly work for me.

brianbirc Bullshit. I'm not puffing myself up. I don't repair or maintain the elevator equipment. I don't touch the equipment to repair it, but I advise the board of directors about the care of all elements of the building. That means I do cursory inspections of the equipment rooms. I'm also present for the annual inspections and some repairs. Our elevator inspector instructs me on what repairs need to be made showing me the problems when he can. That way I know what repairs need to be made to our equipment so I can be sure our elevator company is doing their job. I also have to document the issues, explain them to the board and get bids for expensive repairs. I've worked with many elevator companies, got many bids and have hired and fired many contractors. No one has chased me away from or told me that I couldn't enter any of the equipment rooms. This is a part of my job. The idea that I hire an elevator company and push them into some secret room that I can't enter is crazy. If I didn't work with my elevator company and our annual inspector, I wouldn't be doing my job.

I stopped filming as i thought getting to the top of the steps was it - i checked door and was surprised it was unlocked. Then I stepped back to continue filming the door opening, but let it slam shut. Should not have hesitated and gone straight in but wasn't thinking straight
