As time flies by more and more of these old videos are becoming collectors items as just about all those airplanes are history by now and some of the airlines are too. In this case the change over in the UAE has been huge going from very classic airplanes to the most modern… Tomorrow I’ll post some Sharjah traffic where the selection is far more classic than Dubai!

I just found a video you posted in 2013 with some common scenes (the guy guiding the parking, for example), some different ones, but mostly the same planes, even if sometimes in different angles. It says the scenes are from 1996. Which year was this, after all?

In 1998 Dubai Airport was a small airport with 12-15 million passengers per year and now is the 3rd most busiest in the world with 90 million passengers per year. Also Emirates was a Small Gulf airline with 9 million passengers per year and now carries 60 million passengers.Excellent Dubai!

in august 78, when i first landed in dubai, it was only one building, on the right it was entering passengers, and left it was for exit passengers, in between it was counters, immigration etc, buses with open windows and doors were blowing hot air in your faces with + - 48 degrees, and mostly in the day time, pakistani, indian, iranian and mostly gulf air aeroplanes can been in the skies, but at night time trans oceans flights linking far east with europe/africa etc can be seen, but mostly these were technical stopovers for refuelling, change of crews etc, but now any city and country can envy for huge huplifts

1998 was my 16th year working as a flight attendant. Also flying to DXB I can still remember the old airport.
Everything was pretty small then and it was more like an airfield in the dessert, but it had a real local touch compared to today, where all major airports around the globe look the same.
    Globalisation and it´s disadvantages.

Back then I must have been only 8 or 9 years old but I remember vividly the excitement when I traveled Dubai Airport back then. It was truly a marvel. Flying was exciting back then, no smart phone so you either were fortunate enough to have an onboard entertainment system or just talk to the person next to you or read a book (No smartphones)
Also sad to see Aero Asia go bankrupt, was a good airline overall. Also PIA used to have some standard back then (Of course mismanagement ruined it)

Fascinating, back in the early 90's, my uncle who was then the Airport Services Manager would take me to the airside to watch these birds. I would look forward to the Airshow every 4 years, where I would skip school and watch the Red Arrows take to the skies over Deira.

On a bright October morning 30 years ago, a plane left Dubai for Karachi, and Emirates airline was born. On board were royal dignitaries and VIPs from across the UAE.
Three planes bearing the first insignia of the young airline took flight that day - the others heading for Mumbai and Delhi.
One of the pilots was Pakistani Ejaz ul Haq.
PIA, as well as providing training facilities for Emirates’ first staff members, also leased the company two aircraft. Source: www.thenational.ae/uae/remembering-emirates-first-flights-30-years-on-1.635565

They haven't changed much, but enough to make them look modern.
Yet, in my opinion, they look better than most other airlines (especially european ones) today.

Both have built up their brands though...especially the former under the stewardship of the late Maurice Flanagan and now Tim Clark (Clark also being there when Emirates started). To think that their first plane was a brand new B733 leased from Pakistan (AP-BCD).

Yep, I have this VHS, one of my favourites. I like the scene where the cabin crew of a Royal Nepal 757 are disembarking across the ramp to a waiting bus, when one of the cute hostesses, hams it up for the cameraman. Love to get these 100+ VHS tapes transferred to a thumb drive or some other form of current portable media.

Plenty of 727s, the Biman Bangladesh DC-10, A300s and A310s, a Tu-154, even a Yak-40! All very rare today. No MD-11, though, at least in this sample. Other than Finnair, KLM and the Brazilian airlines (Varig and VASP), they were already becoming rare birds at the time.
