This guy bought and build and army around a miss read of rules, what a shame :( I hope he can sort them out and make squads of 10. What an awesome army, superb paint job. A recomendation from a VIIIth brother: Use levianthans with melta lance and talons + volkite + phospex. You can advance them on the middle or use dreadpots (if you have them) They work wonders with a Terro Assault list, wich is the one I field (you can put 3 for each HS slot, and they are versatile and very killy agains everything). Also, its better to use Night Raptors as assault marines, and you can get more for the points. They are ok (the night raptors) but the assault are much more cost effective. Also use 3 x 10 terror squads with Volkites, and CC wepons, + the regular sarge equipment (AA + meltaB) This untis ara nasty vs infantry. You an shot two turns and then charge to finish the wounded prey. AssaultM, can be used for clean up duty or charge artillery, or melta back-line stuff. I know its a year late, but with a bit of luck I can help, or better, you have aleady fixed everything and you are kicking ass :) AVE DOMINUS NOX
For the Night lords player: you need to outnumber your enemy to gain the pluses to hit and wound because your all cowards :P no fight like an unfair fight! your fire raptor as well has the option to take hellstrike missiles which imo are an auto include as in HH they're S8 Ap2 sunder (see back of red book on weapons lists) overall you have a brilliantly painted army I'm jealous of those sweet looking lightning bolts

Love how both armies look, only complaint is I dislike Primarchs on the field if the opp doesn't use one as well. I liked your opps army other than that. It very much was a Night Lords list and was nasty without losing the flavor of the army.

And the rule triggers on if you out number the opponent not if you are out numbered, night raptors being (bulky 2) in a squad of 10 outnumbers all infantry units getting you the bonus
Are primarchs powerful for their cost? I always thought they were more of a decoration but I guess making them competitive or even op is a good way of selling models. Honestly if I fought a primarch army and he didn't rip me a new hole I'd be fully dissapointed.

Feel like a lore scrub asking this but why exactly are the Night Lords attacking Sons of Horus? Are they just being Night Lords (murderous assholes) or is there a lore reason.

I think you got the night lords rule "a talent for murder" wrong. If you outnumber your opponent you gain a +1 to hit and wound, not if you are outnumbered. This is the wording of the rule. "If a unit of models with legions astarties (night lords) special rule outnumbers one or more enemy infantry unit during any initiative step in which they fight in an assault, they gain +1 to hit and to wound."
Also Curze does not have 'legions astarties night lords' rule, so he does not gain 'a talent for murder' special rule. (Sorry about being a douch and pointing out the mistake but it's a main special rule for the night lords so it's something important to know for future games.) BEAUTIFUL ARMY THOUGH!

Yes, even after the launch of 8th Edition, 30k will still use the 7th Edition rules. So if you hate those rules, dont bother. Or buy those awesome Forgeworld Models, paint them up and use them as proxies in 40k 8th Edition.
I must admit I find it hard to get excited about Heresy games at the moment as I think 8th is a far better gaming system. Thanks for the battle report though winters. Nice to see a good looking Night Lords army on the table.

It clearly states you need to outnumber the enemy for the night lords. That's a massive impact on games if you get such a simple rule wrong dude. Nicely painted armies on both sides though

Though if your weapon can not get a firing ark on a model it can not fire at it there for the spartan could not fire at the fire raptor.

Depending on what you hated from 7th, the issue is likely not on 30k since a lot of what made 7th blow isnt in 30k
