I bought a Speedie in1989, before they were cool. It was for decades my only watch. Three years ago, I gave it to my son, who was the same age as me when I bought it. It was my only Omega, and I don't need another one. Every time I see him wear it, his life ahead of him, it's all I could ask for.

    • @alexanderwyss8842

This comment kind of broke my heart. My dad owns a Speedmaster 125 from the seventies I always loved this watch. As I boy I took it off his wrist, actuating the pusher and so on. The design of the dial is hardwired into my brain. 15 years ago I found a seconhand 125 movement mated into a ref 176.010 style cushion case. I got the watch, I was a happy camper. Finally the case broke at the lugs, I had it sent to Biel/Bienne (I am Swiss, living abroad). They offered me a replacement case, old stock I guess, for the 125. You gotta look it, up. This case, let's say, is pretty massive. Anyways, my dad never really gave me any feedback, or appreciation that I care about his watch. For me that breaks my heart, especially reading from a Dad that cares. I just want to thank You for posting this comment, it somehow comforts me. And I can assure you, my children will get appreciated from me a lot, for whatever they are passionated about. And if my boy or girl ever ask for one of my watches I do know how I will feel about it.

The only watch channel that can wrap Marcus Aurelius, Italian futurism sculpture, the subversive genius of Trading Places, the slimy brilliance of John Carpenter’s The Thing, and the hugely playable Goldeneye game into a contemplation of our enduring love of Omega and the clinical pathology of nostalgia-a microcosm of why The Urban Gentry will always occupy the top tier of awesomeness in the electronic ether for me. And yes, absolutely, you need an Omega in the collection.

Thank you for sharing your time in Philadelphia with us. I hope you next chapter back in NY is a good one. I love Omega, I had a Brosnan era Seamaster, which I regret selling. I also inherited my father’s 1978 Constellation 300hz chronometer 14 years ago and have 1968 Automatic 565 movement in 9ct gold inspired by your vintage Seamaster! However I feel that it’s possible to be a fan of any brand without ownership! I love Grand Seiko, but may never be able to afford one. Thanks for all your week, it’s very much appreciated!

So glad to see you back in NYC. I can tell you feel more at home in just a few days back there than you ever did in Philly. Happy you are back where you feel best.
I love the history and story of Omega. I got stupendously close to buying the GoldenEye Seamaster. But I didn’t and I am glad. Omega I love from a distance and for others. I am happy to enjoy it through others collections. There is nothing that Omega offers me in their current catalog that I don’t already have answered in my collection. I sense you have the same sense of peace. I have a sense that any Speedy or Seamaster would end up finding its way OUT of your collection again. But you do what makes you happy your collection seep right for you. New York came back into your life. No reason Omega can’t too.
Great to see you well and happy. Onward and upward, my friend. Be well!

I did recently purchase the 300m Seamaster in blue that I also really love. I don’t envy your decision, but I do believe in having what speaks to you. I really appreciate the nostalgia and power of the past. I do have a Swatch watch that is somewhat similar to the one I had in the 80’s which sparked my interest in horology as a kiddo. Hi TGV. You’re looking a bit on the tired side this time round, but understandably so with all the energy that’s you’ve been expending with the move. I had a strong feeling you’d return to NY and when I saw that epic lightening strike to the Empire State, it made me smile. Have to say, I do see your relationship with the Speedie being akin to that of a revolving door relationship. Great video TGV you certainly opened my eyes to a lot of things and got me into changing straps. Just my opinion. The speedy looks a bit big on you. Strangely the Panerai doesn't.

Nice video, I'm glad that you moved to NY, I like it better than Philly. I juat watched one of your videos about the Sinn 104, I think you did that about 8 years ago, and I have to say, I love your passion for culture, history, nostalgia and watches of course. It has been nice to see your evolution as a collector and as a man, I like what I see because I see much of me in you, and I don't look that much like a dork. That is a compliment, by the way.
I really hope this is not the end for this channel, maybe I heard that in the wrong way, but I do wish you the best of success in anything you do, I also got here about 35 years ago with a suit case, and an Alfa Swiss quartz watch I got in Guadalajara, Mexico, so I know how that feels.
The lightning strike is a good sign of electrifying content coming, I hope.
Thank you for another cool video. Keep the speedmaster.

Another very enjoyable video, thank you. Without knowing the new trajectory of your watch enthusiasm/collecting it’s hard to say but I would certainly say you should own an Omega. Then again, I would say that wouldn’t I as I own three! Personally, I’d go for the Speedmaster. It went to the moon and that’s reason enough for me. Also, it looks smaller on your wrist than the Panerai so no worries there.

Your collecting philosophy over the past year or so has aligned with my values so much, its crazy. I started off buying all random shitters that tickled any minor fancy in my brain for years, constantly buying and selling off as i realized i didnt actually like the watch that much. I've pared down my collection to 3 watches I actually wear; my Tudor BB41 that gets 90% of my wrist time, my beater Seiko King Turtle that does everything i wouldnt do in the Tudor (which really only means river trips), and my wedding watch, an Oris Artelier on a custom purple ostrich leather strap, along with a handful of random Casios, and then a handful of watches I am working on selling off that dont get worn any more. I have only one watch that I'm still on the fence about, a Sinn U1 that I havent been able to part with even though I dont wear it nearly as much as it deserves to be worn. I want to wear it more but ive become so attached to this tudor that it just sits in my box now, which is a damn shame. But the tudor is just...so perfect i always find myself going for that over everything else

I doubt you will get to see this, but I have been a follower of the channel for several years now, ever since I started researching Omega while buying my first luxury watch. Since then, I’ve experienced a journey through many watches - Omega, Oris, Citizen, and even Garmin. Over the past year or so, as I’ve heard you mention reducing your collection and eventually exiting the collection game, I’ve had an idea in mind, almost like a premonition.
Now, with you talking about Omega again, I can almost see it coming true. When you get your watch collection down to the right size, I think you should get the Brosnan-era Bond Seamaster. How fitting and poetic it would be for your exit watch to also have been your entry watch. As you said in this video when referencing the scratch on your Panerai, watches evolve with us, almost becoming living things and bringing us memories that stay for a lifetime.
How perfect would it be for you to exit with a watch that has been responsible for so many memories already - the watch that literally started and ended your entire journey. A watch that every time you look at, you would be able to recall a multitude of events over the last decade leading to where you are now. It doesn’t get any more perfect than that, my friend.

Congratulations on your move. I hope the change invigorates and inspires you. I have not moved since I came to Chicago as a very young man in 1989. Rob Base and DJ EZ Rock's It Takes Two blasted from every car window. Or so it seems in my hazy memory. Good times. These times are pretty lovely too. I am interested in what happens next for dear old TGV. Take care brother.

“Do I really need an Omega”.. is that even a question!?😉 Yes, you do - of course! The Speedy suits you, but whatever Omega that “speaks to you” is the one . Fun aside: the older we get, the more we appriciate both what we have and what we had. Congrats with the new home! Hope that Hugo didnt come along..😵‍💫😳😬

To me an Omega (especially a Speedmaster) is as necessary a staple to a high end collection as a Submariner is.
      They are just iconic.

I need to eat and drink. I need to love and be loved by at least a few people, but I don't need an Omega. It doesn't keep me alive and sane.

@@karlsenula9495you don’t need “iconic pieces” to have a “high end” collection. That merely seems like you’re just ticking the boxes for the sake of it. I’d rather see a personal, unique collection as opposed to a collection of so called iconic watches that we see in collection after collection.

Nostalgia hits me for all kinds of things, and I haven't even been around for them. There is so much stuff coming out, but the old designs have a special appeal, watches and otherwise. The Empire State for example.

    Tristano ~
Congratulations on the new digs and return back to the Apple.
As to which Ω to pick... my vote goes to the Professional, and why:
Iconic AF, there should be one in every collector's collection, and in my opinion it is *the* chronograph to own (way deeper history than the Daytona for instance).
But, caveat, if you do it go historic and get the 3861 Hesalite... why, you know bro you know (plus it's a touch less thicc for those of us with chicken bone wrists -- 6.25 Club here as well).
    Peace.

Welcome back to NY, hope you'll have a good time there!
It's got nothing to do with nostagia for me, the notion of looking at older Omega's. If I look at 1960s Seamasters, C-shape Constellations and other such Omega watches..... They just don't make 'm like that anymore.
They were smaller, elegant, and timeless. I just acquired a Grand Seiko GMT with a 40mm case that all round is smaller than the current Aqua Terra three-hander, including being significantly less tall. Even a DeVille Tresor is quite large, nowadays.
If you want my opinion, and looking at the size of your wrist, my choice would be a gold or bi-color C-shape Constellation in 36mm, preferrably with coin edge bezel and linen dial. You can slap those on leather for a dressy look or NATO for a casual look, and it would suit you better than this oversized Speedy.

Welcome back to the states! Stay as long as you want🧐.. I know you have already made your decision about Omega and I agree.. tis better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all! .. I learned that very young and finding out that time does heal all wounds .. even a scratch on a Panerai😢..

Hah! I've got the same Seamaster advert framed at my house. Pairs well with my Brosnan era SMP300.
I don't think that you need to own something to be able to appreciate it. I call it "appreciation from afar". I've owned a lot of cool things over the years (WW1/2 rifles and pistols, historic watches and gear), and I've realized that I don't need to physically own something to be able to appreciate it.
If you did want to go back to Omega, I'd recommend the Seamaster. Preferably, the same generation that I've got, the 1990s-early 2000s SMP300. Thinner, svelte, and just more fun. Easier movement to service too. I know you've covered it in the past, but it would be my recommendation.
I'm glad that you're closer to Marc and the rest of the LIW crew! I love those folks!
Thanks for the upload TGV! I hope that all is well.

TGV back in NYC...where it all started a decade ago. Legendary coming full circle. The next decade...cant wait to see what comes. Agreed on the power of nostalgia. Omega offers so much interest...why choose - one of each sounds great to me!! But to ask me you need a Bond Seamaster AND a Speedy...but which one is the hardest part. The hunt is on...great fun! Pure class fratello and so glad you're back home in NYC. Onward and upward!

Good to see you looking happy and content back in NYC. My opinion means nothing but I think the Speedy Pro does look a little too big on you. I have a Speedmaster Mk40 Cosmos, and at 39mm it has all the vibe of a Pro but in a smaller package. Add to that the triple date and 24hr complications, and these actually take it to another level over the Pro in my my eyes. 3520.50 all the way !
