You were impeccable as always! Great song choice and I particularly like this album "Hold Your Fire", because of the sound that Geddy put in his bass lines. Congratulations on the work done on your TH-cam Channel. I'm still here following and taking the opportunity to study the lines you reproduce. Thank you 👏👏👏👏
Thanks so much. I preferred "Power Windows" a bit more, but this was still a great album. I wasn't quite ready for the album that followed this one, though it did grow on me. Take care!
Marvelous bass line. I used to listen “Turn the Page” while travelling by car at the dead of night. So many good memories that this song brings. Keep on the good work!
This is why Rush is one of the greatest bands ever. The level of musicianship is just above and beyond. Each one of the trio is a master of their trade. Well done Troy! I greatly enjoy your channel, and especially enjoy anything you cover from Rush. Also wanted to commend you on your sound and mixing process for your videos. I enjoyed the earlier ones, but sometimes the bass playing got a little lost in the play back of the original. I think you’ve structure right balance,Between your cover and the play back track. Thanks for putting it out there. Very much enjoyed.
I agree and thanks! My sound and "mixing process" are pretty much dumb luck which I am extremely grateful for. Some mixes come out better than others, but I take what I can get. Thanks again.
Once again you blew my mind. 👍 Your tone is similar to Geddy’s Wal in the “A show of hands” live video. After more than 30 years that tune still amazes me in terms of playing/singing independence. Thanks once again for your videos 👏🏻
The Show of Hands video recording in Birmingham was my first Rush gig :) The album is a mix-match of a few dates, but the video, from memory, is from 2 nights in the NEC.
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it. One of the things I like about the Spectors is that I think they can achieve a similar tone to the Wal's without too much trouble. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment.
Last night I had a Troy RUSH concert. Oh my Troy, you are so gifted and talented. I hadn't listened to RUSH in a while. They really have the correct name because the music gives me a constant rush. Looking at your finger work, rhythm, tone etc. gives me a constant, electrifying thrill! high. i can't find words to describe your brilliant playing Troy. Thank you !!!! Marvine
wow - so I hooked up a Audiobox 44vsl as a daw going to a couple car amps powering a ton of speakers with SLR mic and a marshall full stack in the mix. This is perfect channel for setting my mix to the middle so I can hear the guitar and hear his bass - its like I am jamming along with a bass player (like geddy) which really really helps my timing and ability to play non-isolated - and the guys done like hundreds of videos so I'm set until I'm 60

I was lucky enough to see Rush on the Hold Your Faire tour. Tommy Shaw from Styx opened. I was 22 I was into exercising, I would throw The CD in my Walkman (Walkman god i'm old) and go to town.
Hold your fire tour was the first time that I saw RUSH live, unfortunately they didn"t come that often to Germany before. Great tone and playing my friend.
Very cool. Another person also commented that it was their first time seeing them. Thanks Ritchie. We've got to do another collaboration sometime. I'd love to try something by Rainbow.
I only ever bothered learning the intro riff to this (which I infact learned by ear) because it's damn awesome, but watching this makes me want to try to learn more of the song... it looks so fun to play.
To be honest, I'd only learned the intro before deciding to do my original cover of this song. The verses just seemed to be too out of reach. Some parts were tricky, but not nearly as bad as I'd built them up to be... which is usually the case.
Happy Birthday Geddy . Awesome playing Troy. Bass line is really moving and to do all what Geddy does he is one of my influences to playing bass. I couldn’t afford a Rickenbacker so I got a Ibanez Roadstar 2 series bass that looked like one and then I saw run to the hills video and my other influence Steve Harris had a Ibanez just like mine we both changed the bridge to Badass bridge I have an original Badass on the Ibanez and a badass2 on a BC Rich Warlock. I seem to gravitate to that bridge for a couple of years then started using Wilkinson bridges on my two Randy Rhoads 4 and 5 string Basses my friend custom built for me. Again awesome playing ✌🏻
Thanks a lot. That's funny, I couldn't afford a Spector so I traded my Rickenbacker for an Ibanez Roadstar 2 that I though looked like a Spector...haha. I still love my Roadstars. Thanks a lot.
I modded my Roadstar into oblivion and eventually sold it, but got a couple really nice ones a few years back. I did a lot of live gigs and recordings with that bass.
TJH3113 one day I need to upload some pictures of my Basses so you can see some that were custom built and others modified. I think you would enjoy seeing them. I always admire the collection you have some very top of the line instruments. I bet it’s hard to find a favorite. I have two that are my go too Basses. 1 is a custom built 4 string Randy Rhoads Concorde Flying V black with gray burst. The other a BC Rich Warlock i modified EMG pick ups bass ass two bridge
I made a TJH3113 Facebook group that I have archived (put on hold) with the intent of it being a bit more interactive...people could share photos and videos within the group like the basses you mentioned. I just don't know it I'd be able to keep up with it. Still thinking about how I'd approach it.
Awesome playing as usual and great tone from the Spector! I was very tempted to buy on last year but just couldn't get on with the balance - too much neck dive to justify the price tag so bough another Dingwall instead :)
@@luiseduardo_ear Yes, the Spector can certainly pull of the wall tone if you are going for it and of course retain its own originally sounding growl. I have seen Tool covers with Spectors and certainly pulls of the JC type tone with ease!
I think the NS-2A's sound even closer, but I hear you. The Spectors were the only reason I moved the Wal along - I could get in the neighborhood of the tone I liked from the Wal out of the Spectors for a fraction of the price. And there are a few other things I prefer about the Spectors as well. Thank you.
@@TJH3113 With upgraded pickups, most certainly. Also, the late 90's Spector basses made in the Czech Republic have a full maple body (instead of just the top) and to me, the EMG BTS from that era, has the goods to get that signature growl that the HAZ LAB or the Mighty Mite pres in the NS2-A!
Three things: 1, good job, not an easy song to cover on bass (next video with vocals? lol), 2. nice bass and 3. those masks!! Wholly goodness, nice collection.
With these pickups you can get even closer to a Wal sound if you roll back the neck pickup slightly. It gives a bit more midrange punch and more of that funky Wal sound. Inversely, you can get a decent Rickenbacker-esque tone by rolling off the bridge pickup slightly and if you have an EMG BTS control, boost the treble slightly.
Meh, I really don't like playing with tones or p/u balances because I will always be second guessing myself as to whether I've got everything in the same position as the previous sitting. I generally prefer to have both p/u's selected, volume - full up, and tones full up or flat (in cut/boost circuits).
I wondered if you would be posting a Rush video today since I knew it was Geddy's birthday. Of course you didn't disappoint! A good song choice too given the lyrical content.
Wow great job! Ive just been given the task of learning Red Barchetta on Bass for my band. it's a challenge but its cool I love playing anything by Rush
OMG your tone is so close nearly identical to Geddy's Wal tone. I watched this a bunch of times yesterday while I was waiting for my laundry. I love your playing and your tongue so much. The live band scene is really missing out without you. But we TH-camrs benefit from you so I guess it's equal.
You knocked that one out of the park ...the depth of your talent is staggering!!😃👍

Geddy once said that this was the hardest Rush song to sing and play at the same time. It is also off of my favorite Rush album. Awesome work!
I believe him. Thanks.

Excellent cover man keep rocking
Thank you. I'll try.
A fine cover as always sir , and happy birthday to lovely guy
Thanks a lot, Stew.
Nicely played. Kudos!
Thank you.
Wow! :-) Very well played. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment.
epic, great job
Thanks a lot.
Awesome playing as usual and great tone from the Spector! I was very tempted to buy on last year but just couldn't get on with the balance - too much neck dive to justify the price tag so bough another Dingwall instead :)
Thank you very much. Hint - there is no neck-dive if you don't stand up. Haha.
that is a really beautiful guitar
Yes, it was.
Awesome. Great tone.
Thanks!
Wow man that's amazing, well done
Thanks a lot!
Nice little flourish at the end!
Thanks.
Very nice, think I'll add this one to my jam list.
Thank you.
Amazing skills!
Thank you.
Probably the closest tone to the Wal bass (after the Wal itself) that you've achieved in these videos. Well done, man😊
i totally agree!
Thank you.
These videos (as well as Billy Sherwood) have gotten me jonesing for a Spector bass of my own.
Thanks.
Nope.
DeathStudios.
Thank you for your help on the (Journey sound thing)..have a great day..
No problem...you too.
Never fail to amaze us Troy, thanks man, great job.
Haha...thanks!
Sounded really good,.. Nice bass too 💞
Thank you Cindy.
I wondered if you would be posting a Rush video today since I knew it was Geddy's birthday. Of course you didn't disappoint! A good song choice too given the lyrical content.
That was amazing! Great work.
Thank you.
You're welcome.
Excellent tone and playing!
Thank you very much.
*God Bless Ged!*
I think he did.
Wow great job! Ive just been given the task of learning Red Barchetta on Bass for my band. it's a challenge but its cool I love playing anything by Rush
Thanks.
Great! I'm sure you'll kill it. Good luck.
AWESOME AS ALWAYS
Thanks so much!
Thank you!Great, cool cover, cool sound))) 👍👏🤝
Thank you!
You always make it look so damn easy lol. Very interesting choice.
It's an illusion. Thank you.
Preciso achar uma nova palavra para poder fazer um elogio a altura de sua condução nessa música, parabéns, com certeza todos agradeçem.
Ah, as palavras que você escolheu foram ótimas e agradeço por elas.
Well, it's in the neighborhood I think. Thanks a lot.
