On the shore, people, the tripod, rod, all of that keeps them away, but if you put a log with a hook attached, it doesn't scare them.
@@VernsSeaFishing A friend of mine went fishing for sea bass, 3 hooks flapper rig. I asked him how it went? He replied, the damn mullet showed up, I only caught mullet. The sea is different; there is no abundance of food like in estuaries and ports and there is a sea current and competition to grab the bait before someone else grabs it. They have to attack the bait or the sea takes the food. When they put the rag worm in their mouth to suck and continue swimming they hook themselves.
@@karlnewbold I’ll keep at it not going to give up. I enjoy it and have more plans as long as I have days to fish. The blue rod is a Shakespeare bass rod three piece. I used it mackerel fishing in Devon. I did a live with it. Nice rod. Cost £72 a few years back.
YES, you need camouflage!!! And the title of this video should be how not to catch mullet. When I fish for them in the port and the rod is coming out of the wall they don't even swim under the rod, they swim around the rod. I have a camouflage net, a chair behind the net and a rod in my hand to strike when they put the bait in their mouth. Rod low, even on the ground!!! Forget the tripod, a low rod with a float and bread. There is always the chance that one will pass by, put the bread in its mouth and hook itself. The second rod is the one that is fishing and is in your hand when the bait in its mouth strike because it puts the bait in its mouth and then spits it out and puts it back in its mouth and stpts again but doesn't swallow. Going mullet fishing trusting in a bait, big mistake. Not throwing bread flakes was an even bigger mistake. Catch mullet with maggets, with earthworms from the land or sea, with a bit of wool soaked in fish sauce, small shrimp, tuna, macro, honey, etc., etc., etc. ... etc. I've tried them all. Which one works? It depends on what the flavor of the day is for them. Once you find a flavor that works, it might be, usually it's just bread without additives. When you find that flavor of the day, then you'll catch it for sure. The problem with catching mullet is convincing them to put something in their mouth that you throw to them. When they put it in their mouth, strike. When you throw bread to them and they eat it, then free line, hook tied directly to the reel line with a bit of bread. To cast, a quick dip in the bread gives enough weight to cast. The smaller ones come to the shore but the bigger ones stay further away, so cast about 4, 5 meters from the shore, you should be able to see when they put the bread in their mouth : strike!!! They hook themselves in the spiting or you won't catch anything. Thats why the 2 hooks is important. The buoy is about 70 cm deep. The bigger ones swim below the school. .20 line, don't make fun of me, a 4Kg fish, they jump out of the water to get the hook out, I've already had two broken hooks. I'm using .37 line and the rac isn't too open to be able to strike hard. The ideal hook is a triple hook, cut one of the hooks so you have 2, that's ideal. Next to where you are fishing there is a bridge, a structure, which is usually a mandatory stop for mullet, which will feed on the algae on the walls of the pillars and on the crustaceans that live in these algae. ps: your video had a lot of ads, I let them run, the first one comes on then the second one, I assume that the more ads they show the more TH-cam pays you, so I let them play as many ads as they want.
@@josealbertoii4664 My line is trabuco t force tournament it’s .205mm at 5.5kg breaking strain. Think thats 12.1lbs. Should be strong enough for that day in the future 🤣. May have to change the line as it may get brittle over the years of use. Yes never seen them at the bridge but see the lines on the mud where the green algae is. If I get plenty of sessions in may try at the bridge. Thanks for information and I shall keep trying new things and things learned. All the best jose sorry for delay only I’ve been fishing and knackered.
@@VernsSeaFishing I'm just saying this from my experience; I found some hooks with thinner wire, something like the Arbedden, and I thought that since it's thinner they don't detect it as well. The result is two broken hooks when they jump out of the water and stretch, that's no joke. I went back to using the hooks I used before, problem solved. They don't need thin lines or small hooks, they put EVERYTHING in their mouths, screw a hook into a log and they'll put the bait in their mouths to suck it up!!!!!

@@josealbertoii4664 Yes jose by watching the adds gives me money through add sense. Which adds up to a monthly payment which goes towards Diesel and reels. A bit of bait. Whichever I need.
I've been fishing for them for years , I got in touch last time you fished that spot , I feel your hook are way to big
@@paulleclercq8086 Sorry Paul get so many messages. My hooks are the same as what others on TH-cam use. 10/12 I believe. Will check them but any smaller and I won’t see them🤣🤣
I'm surprised you still haven't tried a fly rod
@@user-zf7kp1ct1t I’ve got one and the way they move away from you I think that may be a good idea. 👍
Nice try Vern your a glutton for punishment mate sit down and have a Selection box fella , if at first you don’t succeed try ,try , again feel for you mate tight lines
@@DougieRamsey-ws5gn A selection box would have been nice. I’ll get there may even try fly fishing so they are in reach when they move on. All the best Dougie.
vern use really small hooks mate
Smaller than 10. Use those because that’s what others use in TH-cam unless they are fibing.
