Ive just finished Darling Girls and I really enjoyed it though not quite 5 stars for me, but still terrific! Have a look at The Mother by Jane Caro (another Aussie author). I loved that!! could not put it down!
I completely believe you would love the Blake Crouch Wayward pines series. I also love character based books. I will be curious to see how you feel about “the twelve”. Fun video 😊
Aww thank you! Glad it gave you some inspiration! If you want a fantasy with a little romance, and you haven’t tried it yet, Ashes of the Sun! There’s a romantic sub plot but it’s very much not the main plot of the story!
As Long as the Lemon Trees Grow is a really good book. It's not even historical fiction, takes place in the early 2010s. Definitely YA in the simplicity of the writing but I recommend it!
It has 3 separate stories going on throughout it that converge at the end, so as long as you know that going into it it shouldn’t be confusing. But the way they all come together is just so smart and satisfying. Each story is great and complete on its own as well ☺️
Loved this video! I would be surprised if either Hamnet or As long as the lemon trees grow would be 5 star for you. Firstly, neither has a 5-star character. Hamnet is beautifully written and is heart breaking (The Push is easier on the heart) but it is quite boring and difficult to get through. The Lemon trees book feels very juvenile, repetitive and it is not written well, nothing nice I can say. You could try Circe, beautifully written and very loveable character. Piranesi is very very clever! I need to say thank you for suggesting Clover - turned out to be a 5 star!
You’re smart not to read The Push. My copy is titled Hamnet (not Hamnet and Judith)- Interesting. The writing was beautiful, I probably should have liked the story more than I did. Will be interested to hear how you like The Twelve. I really liked it but maybe not quite as much as The Passage. Recursion was good!
Hamnet was a very nearly perfect book, beautiful and emotional, easily a five star. I'm currently in the middle of Where The Lemon Trees Grow and am enjoying it, but it has been a difficult read. It is definitely YA in terms of the simplicity of the writing, but the subjects covered are very mature. Social media and news coverage of the Syrian conflict were not as readily available as what we're seeing from Palestine now, but as I read through some of the action in the book, I can't help visualize the horrific footage from Palestine.
Thanks, Angie 🍋. I look forward to hearing how you do with this clever experiment 📚.
This was such a fun idea. 🍋 You mentioned several books that you read that were some of my favorite choices.
It was really fun to look back on my reading!
Lemon Trees is amazing! I wanted to choose a book for my first book of 2024 that had a good chance at being a 5 star read, and that one delivered.
So excited to hear that!
Loved Hamnet, 1 of my all time favorite historical fiction 📚. Beautiful prose. The Marriage Portrait by Maggie O'Farrell is excellent also.
Love hearing that!!

Since you 5 starred the witches heart I highly recommend her latest book.....the weaver and the witch queen! Sooooo good
Already on my list for a November buddy read - glad you liked it!!

I think you are totally right about the Wayward Pines series - it’s been a series I’ve been thinking about for awhile!!

Added Ashes of the Sun to my list - thank you! Send me any more you think of 😊
If you are looking for unique with a fantasy twist try .....The library at Mt. Char
I have heard that book is really unique!
As Long As the Lemon Trees Grow is one of my favorite books; recommend it.
Oh good, I’m excited to read it!!
Love this idea for a video
It was really fun to investigate my reading taste :)

I found Cloud Cuckoo Land by Anthony Doerr to be the most clever book I have ever read. It is probably one of my all time favourites!
You just put that back on my radar - initially I heard it was confusing but I don’t always mind confusing 🤣. Thank you!

You have me very interested in Hamnet and Judith….
It could be a fun buddy read after our chunky sci-fi book!

Thank you for the heads up! I still haven’t read Circe, that is a good idea!
@@bookmama26 Apparently the audiobook is amazing, but I read the physical book.

I loved hearing that about Hamnet and thanks for the thoughts on Lemon Tree - it’s definitely not my normal read!
🍋
I’ll be surprised if you don’t love Hamnet.
Warning: Darling Girls contains some brutal forms of child abuse! As a mom, I found it too upsetting to read.
Oh no, I might not be able to take that - thank you so much for the heads up!
