✿ FAQ (Questions I think some of you might ask) ✿
→ How do you feel about the lack of trackpads on the ROG Ally?
• Maybe a hot take, but I don't really mind it while playing games on the ROG Ally, because all the games I'm playing currently have complete controller support. While navigating Windows, it's a bit tricky to use the joystick on the Ally as a mouse, but the touchscreen is responsive enough that I can use the tip of my finger to click on most things. Right-clicking is a pain, however.
→ Does Windows let you instantly resume games after sleep?
• Not really? But I have put the ROG Ally to sleep while running Genshin and after reconnecting to the server the game still runs as usual.
→ Should I get this or a Steam Deck?
• If you want the simplest way of thinking about it: are most of the games you play unavailable on Steam, or are most of your games on Steam? If the former, consider the ROG Ally if you're fine with the quirks of using Windows on a small touchscreen device with no mouse. If the latter, a Steam Deck might be a better fit, depending on your budget. Also consider if you want a 1080p screen - it's beautiful on the ROG Ally.

I know you were show casing the games running on the system but it's actually really nice to watch you play different games in long format. Would totally watch / leave you on in the background playing if you did a full 1hr gameplay video for Persona like you've done before for Genshin.

Dont go back, you’ll eventually fall for grinding for primos or be a gambling addict, then constantly farming for the perfect artifacts, and trying to finish abyss on time… it literally feels like a daily task more than a game for fun for me so I definitely quitted a few times and went back but now its been months since my last quit and I don’t think I’m gonna be back because now I’m exploring more games and have fun far more than when I was playing genshin since its so demanding that it doesn’t let you play other games too.
That handheld actually looks so cool with the graphics.

I started with Steam DEck but I did also pick up the Rog Ally this week. I do like the size of it better. It is lighter and easier to hold.

I have both the ally and the steam deck, and definitely prefer the ally 100 percent. The ally is basically a windows 11 comp so anything that would run normally on a windows comp can be run on the ally as well. It plays all of my games including steam, xbox, and epic no problems. The only con i have is that my sd card reader stopped working, due to overheating, partially my fault, but have resolved this with external usb hub with a sd card reader so all is good again!
the battery is i think 40Wh and turbo goes to 30W meaning and the total system draw at turbo surpases 40W so youd get about an hour on battery or less. i would highly suggest you use an upscaler for games as the screen is small enough that any blurriness in upscaling wont be so noticeable and youd be able to run games at higher FPS and at lower watts. i have the Win max 2 which has a 10in screen and a 70Wh battery and i use lossless upscaler and with that i can upscale to native 2k res while only using about 10~15w tpd, about 20W stotal system power, for most games. I play genshin impact on the Win Max 2 at 15W tdp using the upscaler and get about 45~55 FPS at med to high settings. I think when the ally is not connected to a charger the turbo is only 25w TDP while on cable its 30W TDP. Also when using the eGPU the ally should automatically turn on turbo mode to allow the best performance with the eGPU, the Win Max 2 also need to run at 30W tdp to not have issues with eGPUs.

I have those specific thumbgrips and i love them but i find they slide alot. I no longer have a lapto and my tv is on the fritz so i feel like i might benefit from a device like this.
I would like to play Genshin and Star Rail in there, since I played mostly on phone with very low preset + 30 fps (for longevity)

Im super intrigued!! Im so torn between a Steam Deck and this, though. Basically all my games are on Steam, with only a few on Epic etc. But i love the idea of having such easy access to Windows software and the ability to use Game Pass if i wanted etc.
I just use Steam Bug Picture mode on the Ally.
I'm really considering getting on of these, but quite pricy with inflation going on. I love my Nintendo Switch, but can't exactly play pc games on it, wanted to get a steam deck, but Valve does not ship here, meanwhile this is available. I haven't played Genshin in forever, but I'm quite often on the road and being able to play something like Genshin would be really cool. I have a phone, but it can barely log on the game without overheating.
ill tell you this rog ally actually has pretty terrible battery.
it can only run AAA games about 1 hours .

I love my rog ally and the compatibility with all games instead of steam OS on steam deck is a blast !
the biggest issue of rog ally is the really bad placement of microsd slot and the battery (but it's not an issue if you play and charge at sam time) !
better change the internal ssd if you want lot of games !

My team is Wanderer, zhongli, dehya and kokomi. saving for ayaka rn and on guaranteed character pity too which means that 90 pulls max for ayaka and 80 max pulls for a mistsplitter. I got time to save primos so I am safe for now.
if you have extra monitor at home and office then this rog is prefect laptop replacement cause the preformance and portability is greater than a laptop

Great video! I see you compared the rog ally with switch oled size comparison, are the sceen similar size physically? I was wondering if a screen protector for Switch Oled would fit the Ally. I pre-odered the Ally but can't find screen protector other than dbrand and I think that ships after the console is out.

That just depends on the speed of the ssd, you could swap it out with a faster one yourself. That said though it's the really small 2230 size so they won't be ps5 fast, just regular fast
pretty quick, but i'm loading off of the built-in SSD. i imagine it wouldn't be much slower even if i had it installed on the micro SD
