In high-school, at swimming meets, we'd play the Chambers Brothers, Time Has Come Today, Iron Butterfly, In-A-Godda-Da-Vida, and Cream, Sunshine of Your Love! We may have swam like rocks, but we had the best music of any swim team in Oakland! 😅
Saw them in San Diego in 1970 in concert. I figured that would probably be the most entertaining concert I will ever see. And after seeing probably more than 200 concerts most likely, before I stopped going to concerts, It turned out that that was correct. The most entertaining band we ever saw. Out side of the Beatles, we saw most of the biggest. None were more entertaining.
My parents had this album, imagine hearing this when you were seven, and at full volume. I was "psychedelicized" early. Check out "Magic Bus" by the Who, and "Are You Experienced"by Jimmy Hendrix. Both have that psychedelic feel.
Lee. Thanks for playing the album version. When this hit in 1967 the use of extreme fuzz guitar and studio echo delay was all very new. Trust me. Anyone hearing this back then was like WTF in a great way. By the way, the single version is only about 3 minutes long, which is what most people heard. The album version clocks in at 11 minutes, so, thanks. Oh, and the guitar riff you heard was, "The Little Drummer-boy." Peace out, my brother.
A true masterpiece. There are so many elements of life that still apply today.Homelessness, isolation,no love, hatred, and of course that machine gun in the jungle.Time has certainly Come Today
I've NEVER heard anyone say LESS cowbell!)) This sounded amazing on the 9 volt AM transistor radio with the 2" paper speaker...)) This really was a great song in the day, I was 10 years old... Six years before "Dark Side of the Moon"... Maybe a LITTLE influence? A lot of the Brit invasion bands credited American Blues and Soul as influences - great "memory lane" song for me, thanks!
During these late 60s years bands were experimenting with fuzz guitar, echo, overdubs, early synthesizers, they didn't know what they couldn't do, just try something see if it works
Took a cross country trip in my VW beetle in 1971 from the east coast to the west and remember listening to this song on the radio, driving up the PCH to San Francisco. (long version) Trippy then, trippy now.
Wow I first heard this in 1968 I never seen anyone react to it There was even a specific dance that went with this song At least in my neighborhood Far out man
Seen this Band 4 times. First time seeing them play this tune. Folks on LSD freaked out when the screams came. Took off running to escape, crazy-like. "TIME HAS COME" tune is a prelude to the: "LOVE, PEACE & HAPPYNESS" tune
This is the best version of the song. The edited version is messed up. For me, this song best representative o the 60s. Anger, war, psychedelia and disenfranchised young people of all colors. Great pick!
As an old Hippie, I have this album. It is such a classic. ..and has Cow Bell In Spades! ...and little drummer boy! Thank you for playing this! Trippy as it gets.
So this takes me back to the 60's when my brother who was 5 yrs older than me used to play this song all the time. Thanks for the memories, haven't heard this song in yrs 🤟🥰💖🎶 Love your reaction ✌️
A lot of soul bands got heavy and psychedelic during the late 60s and early 70s. Isley Brother- 3+3 album, Edwin Starr- War, Temptations- Psychedelic Shack. Even the Osmond Brothers got heavy with Crazy Horses. Great reaction as usual.
At least three more songs on this album that you need to do. "What The World Needs Now Is Love", "People Get Ready" and "In the Midnight Hour". All good all the time. The Chambers Brothers were BIG BIG BIG in their time. Also, more COWBELL!!! LOL.
Requested the hell out of this back in the day. Blew everyone's mind radio station ptogtamers hated it, gotta get those commercials in. Hope this was the long version......
My soul has been cycledelisized 😵💫😵💫😵💫😋 I have this vinyl album this is the only one I've played off it, haven't a clue what the other songs are about for the last 20 years 🤣🤣🤣🤟⚡✌️❤️(absolutely love the Little Drummer Boy jingle interspersed during this Trip)
One of the absolute greats of that time frame. Another one is Fever Tree - San Francisco Girls (Return of the Native). The guitar work is unforgettable!
It was fun observing your reactions! Through the dawn and then flowering of the psychedelic rock period, music pieces started having a change-up segment, suggestive of a journey or trippy phase. Such pieces became very popular to listen to, during recreational imbibing.
I can't wait to see how Lee reacts to the psychedelic section. I remember the first time I heard this song and how it blew my fn mind. From the clock to the lyrical passages and then BOOM!
If you think this tune is trippy now, you shoulda heard it in the 'olden days' when we WERE trippin' for real........just sayin'. Great reaction to a masterpiece! Rock on.......
Hell of a long time since I heard this, thanks. I'm sure there was a different version of this which they released as a single which was quite a bit shorter and did pretty well in the charts, it was great to dance to in the day.
during the middle part if you pay attention to the lead guitar you'll hear the Little Drummer boy. A couple of more psych songs to check out-Jimi Hendrix-Are You Experienced, Tomorrow-My white Bicycle and the bubble Puppy-Hot Smoke And Sassafras.
Caution. My best advice is to not go down the AVERAGE WHITE BAND rabbit hole by listening to / watching "PICK UP THE PIECES or CUT THE CAKE' songs on what seems like endless repeat like I do. JUST DON'T DO IT!! BTW, I enjoy your music commentary - informative and thoughtful.
First time I heard of or ever heard or saw of them was at a concert in Sacramento when they were billed with Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention! FYI - They were the band that were billed with The Doors at the famous Hollywood Bowl concert. Also, Their other famous long song was on their second album. A song called "Love, Peace and Happiness"...look it up.
That song you recognized in the middle was, "The Little Drummer Boy". No idea why they added that. Another cool song of theirs that I'm pretty sure was on the same album was, "Peace, Love & Happiness". A couple more mind fuckers (I've been calling them that for 15 years, or better: "Mind Flowers" by Ultimate Spinach "Music" by Kaleidoscope "Cauldron" by Fifty Foot Hose "Flowers In Your Mind" by The Ramrods "As Kind As Summer" by The West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band (It's a short song.) "It's All Too Much" by The Beatles (See if you can get the full length version, I'm pretty sure it's over 8:00 long.) From one drummer to another, you should listen to, "In The Dead Of Night" by U.K.. And, "In A Big Country (Pure Mix)" by Big Country. Make sure you get the Pure Mix, not the album or single versions. And, just because they're cool songs, try, "Slow Motion" and, "Ticket To Everywhere" by SFF and, "Too Loud" by Robert Plant.
Probably a little before your time, but Chris "Boomer" Berman on ESPN used to reference "Time Has Come Today" in his NFL game highlights frequently. He used a lot of musical references, which made him VERY popular with all us sports/music dudes.
I was in field in 'Nam when I heard this for the first time. One of the few songs everyone listened to.
I was 16 when this song came out. Mind blowing in its time. Stoner music 🎶 for sure. Peace ✌️
Saw them in San Diego in 1970 in concert. I figured that would probably be the most entertaining concert I will ever see. It was played on FM radio back then, a long version. Other Hard Rock back then.
Check out I can't stand it by chambers brothers
Like many 60s songs....the longer version is the better one
Vietnam era music 🪖🇺🇲
Soul Experience - Iron Butterfly Live 🦋 ♥️
A true masterpiece. There are so many elements of life that still apply today.Homelessness, isolation,no love, hatred, and of course that machine gun in the jungle.Time has certainly Come Today
The whole era was a mind-f**k and the Chambers Brothers captured it perfectly!!!! 💜☮️
I've NEVER heard anyone say LESS cowbell!)) This sounded amazing on the 9 volt AM transistor radio with the 2" paper speaker...)) This really was a great song in the day, I was 10 years old... Lester Chambers (older than me!) is still alive and active. He and his son are in the band "Moonalice" which has some excellent musicians.
Thanks for that. I was wondering what he was up to.
The 1960's....what a "time" to be alive.
and if Vietnam to stay alive!
This is one of the greatest songs
Took a cross country trip in my VW beetle in 1971 from the east coast to the west and remember listening to this song on the radio, driving up the PCH to San Francisco. (long version) Trippy then, trippy now.
classic 60's acid tune.one of MANY.
Wow I first heard this in 1968
I never seen anyone react to it
There was even a specific dance that went with this song
At least in my neighborhood
Far out man
Your facial expressions were priceless! Rock on, time HAS come today 🤯😁
Seen this Band 4 times. First time seeing them play this tune. Folks on LSD freaked out when the screams came. Took off running to escape, crazy-like. "TIME HAS COME" tune is a prelude to the: "LOVE, PEACE & HAPPYNESS" tune
“Psychedelisized” in the lyrics…yup
The first example of Acid Funk...!
This song was a MINDBLOWER in '67, trust me.
This is one of my favorite classic rock songs. Nothing like it
In 1968 I got to see them at Bridgeport University for $2.50. They played this tune for over 30 min for a finally. Just blew us away.
This was always my impression of what an Acid trip would be like.
It's not too late to trip
I first this in 1970 when I was 14. Thanks so much for the reaction
The drummer wasn’t playing the cowbell. Check out the live performance-it was one of the other members of the band
The late 60s was a trip. If you survived it, many didn't..☮️
Good choice Lee. No way to describe this track. Just have to make TIME to listen to it and enjoy. 🕰
I remember this song. Haven't heard it in years. Reminds me a bit of the Stones, Steppenwolf, & Eric Burden. Good tune!
Chambers Brothers - Funky
Chambers Brothers - People Get Ready (my fav version)
Chambers Brothers - New Generation
Chambers Brothers - Love, Peace And Happiness
Chambers Brothers - To Love Somebody
Yep...those were the days.
One of the trippiest songs ever
The LONG version, fantastic! More Psychodelic Soul. War "Cisco Kid" Funkadelics! Parliament! George Clinton!
This is the best version of the song. The edited version is messed up. For me, this song best representative o the 60s. Anger, war, psychedelia and disenfranchised young people of all colors. Great pick!
one of the best songs of the late 60's, unique and epic, the long version is the best
That musical time-warp decent into alternate rhythmic audio reality, is classic 60s psychedelia.
Good selection, one of the great albums of the 60s, have this album for around fifty years and never get tired of listening to it even today !
Loved their album. This tune will take you on a trip (no drugs required).
They did a rock soul song. Can't Turn You Loose.
I also like “Uptown” from this album. It was written by Betty Davis, who was quite a pioneer herself.
@@MsAppassionata I am not familiar with that song. i will have to check it out.
The one song that truly had more than enough cowbell!
Nah, I need more cowbell!
my soul has been pschedelicied
As an old Hippie, I have this album. It is such a classic.
..and has Cow Bell In Spades! ...and little drummer boy! Thank you for playing this! Trippy as it gets.
OH, HELL YEAH‼️ Time has come today💙✌️🌼🌼🌼🌼
So this takes me back to the 60's when my brother who was 5 yrs older than me used to play this song all the time. Thanks for the memories, haven't heard this song in yrs 🤟🥰💖🎶 Love your reaction ✌️
One of my favorite listens from back then. So freaking cool and trippy.
great great song
I only heard the extended version of this growing up. I requested this months ago. Glad someone else knows who they are.
My soul has been psychedelicized.
song captures the mood and feelings of the era . I remember .
This was a big hit with the guy's that were serving in Nam.
I first heard this song in 1968, I was 18 y/o and experimenting with mescaline. Amazing time.
Takes me back. Think ours was mixed with Nestle's Quik chocolate powder .. this definitely made the playlist.
Another stoner song is called The Fool by QuickSilver Messenger Service, I saw them with Iron Butterfly and The Chamber Brothers at the same concert
A drummer first introduced me to this song. No surprise this was one of his favorites. It became one of my favorites too.
Saw them in 74 in Westchester, NY. - played it just like the record. A trip for sure.
Seen these cats do this live! Outstanding!
At least three more songs on this album that you need to do. "What The World Needs Now Is Love", "People Get Ready" and "In the Midnight Hour". All good all the time. The Chambers Brothers were BIG BIG BIG in their time. Also, more COWBELL!!! LOL.
What about “Uptown”? That’s a cool, funky little song.
All good in the hood.
sad to know this talented drummer is no longer with us.
This was required music at EVERY party for about a year after it came out. LOL
Purple Microdot 1974. Time!
I used to get really pissed when they played the short version on the radio 😊😊😊
Requested the hell out of this back in the day. Blew everyone's mind radio station ptogtamers hated it, gotta get those commercials in. Hope this was the long version......
So glad to hear you enjoyed it ~ My favorite line in this song is, "There are things to realize" ~ ~ ~
Awesome track! I loved how trippy it got eventually. So damn good!
Steve Earle does a great version of this featuring Sheryl Crow on his album Sidetracks
That is psychedelic soul, dude! Lol
I was 11 when this was released. Never heard the album version until right now. Amazing!

Fever tree, yes
It was fun observing your reactions!
Through the dawn and then flowering of the psychedelic rock period, music pieces started having a change-up segment, suggestive of a journey or trippy phase. Such pieces became very popular to listen to, during recreational imbibing.
“Whole Lotta Love” by Led Zep also has a similar structure.
I can't wait to see how Lee reacts to the psychedelic section. I remember the first time I heard this song and how it blew my fn mind. From the clock to the lyrical passages and then BOOM!
The Ramones do a great cover with an equally entertaining video.
Remember to set your strobe lights to the cow bells here. TIME!!
Great memories!
Have you reacted to the band War yet? If not, give Slipping into Darkness and Cisco Kid a try!
“Spill The Wine” and “Tobacco Road” with Eric Burdon, “Me And Baby Brother”, “Low Rider”, “Why Can’t We Be Friends”.
Love this song, I saw this live in 68. Our ultimate stoner song this one and Ina Godda da vida
You are in for 1 heck of a ride, brother!
You ain't kidding bro. This was a trip and a half!!
Yes! Excellent suggestion! A "must know!" Thanks Lee
Pioneers! Ground breaking
Your soul has been psychedelicized!
If you think this tune is trippy now, you shoulda heard it in the 'olden days' when we WERE trippin' for real........just sayin'. Great reaction to a masterpiece! Rock on.......
Hahaha I bet it was an absolute mind f*ck... I can only imagine lol

Never heard of this band: fantastic
Don't worry. Listening to this doesn't equate to a relapse!
Very cool
Great choice guys
Great song , good album. I have this album.
What a fantastic way to start my day! Thanks Lee!☮️❤️
This would be accompanied by a fantastic light show to fill all of your senses,
You heard The Little Drummer Boy too!😅
during the middle part if you pay attention to the lead guitar you'll hear the Little Drummer boy. A couple of more psych songs to check out-Jimi Hendrix-Are You Experienced, Tomorrow-My white Bicycle and the bubble Puppy-Hot Smoke And Sassafras.
Lee..........This is more on the Rock side than Soul. Been digging this for many years.
Iconic.

To me this song is so connected to feeling and horror of the Vietnam War.
You are really groovin on the best music ever lately..I wish you could have been those years ago also..

Great reaction!!! You need to check out the song "Maggot Brain" by George Clinton and the Funkadelic's. Another psychedelic soul masterpiece.
